Chapter 361 - 301: Aftermath, Path of the Morning Star

Morning light filtered through the stained-glass windows, casting mottled shadows across the Stone Slabs of the Judgement Hall.

Aidele stood beside Elder Soron, the silver Time Trace patterns on her Wizard Robe glinting faintly in the light.

She held a Recording Crystal between her fingertips, ready to record.

In the center of the Judgement Hall, Edmund was bound to a Rune Stone Pillar by nine Rune Chains.

These chains were not physical but were a Sealing Technique forged from Elder Soron's Spiritual Power.

Intricate, ancient Runes flowed along each chain, suppressing the inky-black aura within Edmund that struggled to break free.

"When did you first come into contact with the Abyss? State the source of your Abyssal knowledge."

Elder Soron's voice was steady, betraying no emotion.

Edmund lifted his head. His once-handsome face was now covered in dark violet markings.

"Hah..."

His lips twitched, and the dark violet markings writhed in response, as if something were alive and crawling beneath his skin.

Aidele's gaze was icy as she looked at Edmund's wretched state.

Three days ago, this man had been the first in line to inherit the clan leadership, laughing and chatting at the monthly gathering.

Now, he was like a monster stripped of all its disguises.

"I don't know the exact time. I only remember it was about a decade or so ago. I was in the clan's Library Collection and stumbled upon an old notebook..."

After he finished confessing, Edmund went completely limp.

The Abyssal corruption in his body was being continuously purified by the Power of Order, and his consciousness had begun to fade.

"The clan's Library Collection? There shouldn't be any Abyssal knowledge above Level Two there."

Elder Soron shook his head and pressed on.

"Did you also learn how to build the Abyssal Altar from that notebook? Where is it now?"

"I... I don't remember... AHHH! Just kill me!"

Edmund's body suddenly arched, and an inhuman roar erupted from his throat.

Elder Soron frowned. With a slight raise of his hand, the silver-white chains tightened slightly.

Aidele caught the scent of something scorching and foul in the air.

"Is the recording finished?"

Aidele nodded and handed over the Crystal.

Inside the Crystal, a graph of Edmund's Spiritual Fluctuations as he spoke appeared.

The latter half of the graph showed severe distortions, as if it had been forcibly twisted by an invisible hand.

Elder Soron stared at the graph for a moment, a grave expression passing over his aged face.

"His memories have been tainted by the Pollution Source as well."

"Can it be broken?"

"It will take time." Elder Soron put the Crystal away.

"And it's extremely risky. Forcibly breaking it could destroy what's left of his sanity."

Aidele pressed her lips together, her eyes on Edmund's limp form.

This enemy she once hated most was now like a hollow husk, his Soul drained away.

For some reason, she didn't feel the satisfaction she had expected. Instead, an icy chill settled in her heart.

'If it can even alter memories, what can't it corrupt?'

「Afternoon. Golden Statue Tree Street, Magic Potion Workshop.」

Ian sat at his workbench, a freshly delivered roll of Parchment spread out before him.

He had come here today specifically to receive the access authorization document granted by the Elder Council.

The ink was not yet completely dry, and the bottom was stamped with three different seals.

The clan's Law Enforcement Division, the Secret Vault's Supervisory Office, and Elder Soron's personal Witchcraft Mark.

Gaga perched nearby, preening its feathers with its beak.

"So... you can openly research that stuff now?"

Ian glanced at the text on it. "Sealed Experimental Materials and Items of Edmund Justice."

The scene from the monthly gathering three days ago replayed in his mind.

When Edmund had coughed up black blood, the entire hall had fallen as silent as a graveyard.

Then came the Elders' fury, their interrogations, and the final verdict.

Now, the corrupted vessels, experimental records, and forbidden tomes that had terrified the Justice Clan were all about to be delivered to him.

Aidele had applied for this extremely dangerous task under the pretext of "researching Abyssal corruption, completely purifying the Clan Leader, and developing preventative measures."

"She wants to find a permanent cure for her father," Ian finally said, his voice soft.

"And you want to use them to get access to the core of the Abyss."

Gaga tilted its head, its silver-gray eyes reflecting Ian's profile.

Ian didn't deny it. He stood up, walked over to the Constant Temperature cabinet, and took out the bottle of Dark Silver Potion.

It was a weakened version of the Soul Calming Potion, and also the medium for his panel's remote sensing and even Violent Purification.

It was with this small bottle of Potion that he had completely exposed Edmund.

But the Level of corruption within Edmund had reached a terrifying Level Four.

'This is Morning Star Wizard Level corruption. Does Aidele really think I can crack it?'

He did indeed need more data on the Abyss, more samples.

And even more of the Abyssal Rules themselves.

Only then could he continue to perfect his Abyssal Altar.

'One day, I'll build an altar that can cross directly between the two realms.'

「At dusk, Aidele pushed open the door to the Laboratory.」

She had changed into casual attire. The cuffs of her deep blue Long Robe were embroidered with simple silver thread patterns, and her long hair was held up loosely with a wooden hairpin.

But Ian noticed the faint, bluish shadows under her eyes.

They were traces of fatigue from three consecutive days of interrogations and resource consolidation.

"This is for you."

Aidele placed a palm-sized Metal box on the workbench.

The box's surface was covered in engraved Isolation Runes, but Ian's panel could still detect the intense fluctuations emanating from within.

The residual aura of Level Three Abyssal corruption. It was from the same source as the corruption within Titus Clan Leader, but its concentration was much lower.

"We found it in a hidden compartment in Edmund's private study."

Aidele's voice was a little hoarse.

"How is the interrogation progressing?"

"His core followers..." Aidele paused, pulling out a chair and sitting down.

"Seven Level Two Wizards and over a hundred Level One Wizards. But only two of them truly knew what was going on, and they died on the day of the gathering."
