Chapter 3 Episode 23

Western Continental Calendar February 25, 2813 noon [Waltenia Peninsula] Part 2:

"Let's go!"

A red-haired woman screaming out loud, straddling her horse at the head of the unit. And she raised the spear in her hand high.

Following his voice, a group of about 300 people start walking through the north gate of the fortified city of Ipilos and all the way to the Waltenia Peninsula.

That was a solemn and majestic sight.

Merchants and peasants crossing both ends of the road also stop and shut their feet when they see what their troops look like.

No one tries to open their mouths.

The less room they had to cheer, the more barometric they got.

The equipment of its troops was quite special and made people's eye-nails.

Black, black, black...

Below the leather armor they wore, shirts, shoes, no, even the sheath of the sword or the patterned part of the spear, everything about it is black.

Even the horse metal is painted black.

The horses were not the only ones with black hair, but their outfits were different.

And in that, their flying but flags nail people's eyes even more.

A sword on the black ground. Two-headed snake dyed in gold wrapped around it.

Only the snake-eyed part of it is stitched red and sharply intimidates the surrounding area.

Separately, each design is not so bizarre when viewed alone.

Both swords and snakes are used in any number of crests.

Yet the flag raised by this group bound the human heart that saw its appearance.

It's like the darkness gushing out of the depths of the earth, giving people such an intense impression.

"Is that one of the sides of the guy... with his name only Lionel? I heard you were a mercenary in the war...... I see. I wanted to call you a woman... but it's a big deal."

An old man with gray hair squeaks from the top of a viewing table set on the walls of Ipilos.

He is an old man with a mild expression.

And he's also obviously a wealthy person.

A ring with jewels on a silk garment. And a very wide belly is the most important proof.

"My father-in-law is just as worried as Julia is... she won't be incompetent, but do we need to worry about her?

The Earl of Salzberg, looking down under his eyes as well beside the old man, says back in a tone somewhere out loud.

In fact, he was sick of the old man's words.

Julia, my wife, has also prompted me to be on guard against Ryo Michizawa.

It is also Julia's suggestion that the Count's breathing man be distracted among the mercenaries.

As an Earl, I suggested that we should move and take over the army rather than do such a tricky thing, but Julia would never try to admit it.

She was cautious, as if she feared hostility with Ryo Shiba.

But from the Earl's point of view, it's like a piece of garbage, such as Ryo True Force. You don't even have your own base.

I never take my wife's abilities lightly, but as Count, I don't see why I need to be careful where I am.

Its questions give rise to dissatisfaction, which, little by little, fills the heart of the Count with chronic hearts.

"Fulfill it. Is it? That unit was formerly an amateur slave. That's how well they line up, isn't it? Baron Gozai bought slaves and started educating them only a few months ago. So what is so much smell...... Lord Earl of Salzberg. To be honest, I even feel terrified."

The old man had absolute confidence in his appraisal eyes.

It was as a result of this old man's talent that he ran the Mistal Chamber of Commerce, which was never a leader in the town of Ipilos, and rose to the head of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce.

The fact of it has given rise to absolute pride in one's power.

From his eyes of it, a group proceeding north under his eyes seemed threatening.

"That's crap. Sure, the armaments bought from your father-in-law would be good stuff, but tacas will be known in the mixed units where the soldiers you use go up mercenaries and slaves. That black, unified outfit is a big deal, though. Well, from my father-in-law, who has no real experience in combat, it seems to work even with child deception like that."

That is how the Earl of Salzberg turns his contemptuous gaze on the old man.

He is the father of his own wife.

But the Count looked down on the old man in front of him.

Maybe a few percent of the reason lies in a tribute that never breaks down against you.

Wherever the old man in front of him claimed his rights as his stepfather, the Count would never consider it, but that is why he is too demeaning towards himself, his daughter's son-in-law.

Besides, for Count Salzberg, the troops created by Ryojin are not worthy of recognition.

The number is only around 300.

On top of that, if you give me a unit formed of mercenaries and child slaves, other nobles will see it and give the same rating.

The only thing I think the Count deserves credit for is the fact that he has dyed the colors of the soldiers' armor black.

And it never ties into the strength of the army, even when it comes to falling apart.

It was also natural for the Count's attitude to be cooler towards this old man who could not understand what was normal for such a Count.

"That's what they say...... isn't that commanding line inside stuff?

Surely it is an undisturbed march.

Regardless, it is a fact that the Commander's intentions are easy to reach, as it is a small unit of around 300 men.

But it's an old man's assessment to tell a man who was an amateur until a few months ago that he couldn't march that neatly.

That said, the old man doesn't stick to his opinions.

Earl Salzberg's, I suppose, understands his solitary character.

Instead of denying the Count's words directly from the front, he directs the other's will in the form of a question.

It was a very advanced negotiating technique.

"Well, you can only plant a march for a few months, and you can do about that."

himself a general of a single army again. Therefore, the preconceived notion that a soldier could not be a thing in a few months clouded his thinking.

Line up and walk down the street. It takes a lot of effort just to teach amateurs that much.

Not to mention, it was the child of the slave who taught him.

It must have been a rather laborious task to teach them even unwillingly living corpses.

But the old man stopped saying things that would damage the mood of the Earl of Salzberg any more.

Because I understood that even if I defended myself any more, the Count would not change his opinion.

"Well, it's amateur's feeling of no other love, so don't worry about it"

When the Count nodded lightly at the words of such an old man, he returned the blemishes.

"Now if you'll excuse me. I'm not free either...... oh look at your free time and visit the mansion. Sometimes it would be nice to have dinner with Julia, wouldn't it?

"Yep. Later then......"

When the Count nodded with a satisfied face at the words of the old man, he went down the stairs.

"I'm a troubled man... capable but very sweet stuffing. Plus I insult too many civilians and slaves. Well, compared to the other nobles, we haven't..."

The old man, who was just left on the person stand, whined small after making sure there was no one around him.

Now the old man's face had changed.

His face, when he was talking to the Earl of Salzberg, should have surrounded him with a mild and unreliable atmosphere.

Even against his own daughter's son-in-law, he must be the man who pulled a step or two.

That's what's changing now.

If the Earl of Salzberg had seen the face of the present old man, the Earl would have revalued the old man.

Not so long ago, the old man's eyes emitted a harsh and unafraid light.

"That army shouldn't be alarmed... I didn't know we were going to do so much trooping for a short period of time... but at this stage it's certainly smarter to keep it under surveillance, as Julia says. If you interfere badly and become hostile to this one, it will be quite troublesome."

So whining, the old man's brain moves at high speeds.

Staring at the black troops moving north.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Father. May I?

The old man, asleep to cover himself on his desk, jumped in surprise at the voice hung on him.

I guess I fell asleep at some point.

It was still supposed to be daylight in the old man's memory, but the light of the moon plunged from the office window into the room, illuminating the room with a change in the candle "Candle".

I guess I was in a deep sleep.

"Julia..."

The candlelight in the woman's hand illuminates her face.

Her figure, hooded in a black robe, is very unlikely to be the Countess.

It's an incredibly plain outfit from her usual outfit.

"Yes. And I heard... was I interrupting?

I guess there's something unfortunate going on.

The old man asked Julia in a tired voice somewhere.

"No, you're the one who called me out of the blue. I'm sorry. I need to talk to you sooner... are you paying for it?

Julia nodded silently at the old man's inquiry, closing the office door behind her.

For Julia, who understands what it means to be summoned to this office today, there is no need to say it again.

"What the hell is wrong with you? In order not to turn suspicious eyes to my husband, wasn't the contact supposed to be made except periodically?

"I'm sorry... I really thought we should talk early"

"Ryo Ozai...?

The old man slowly shook his neck vertically at Julia's words, who asks anxiously somewhere as he stood up in front of his desk.

Only then did Julia quickly perceive the psychology of her father sitting in front of her.

She felt it herself. Anxiety.

His father, who ruled the economy of Ipilos, felt the same thing.

"Does your father consider you dangerous, too?

"It must be dangerous... well, I don't know who it is to be dangerous. At least it would be dangerous for Count Salzberg… I felt it a few days ago when I exchanged words with Baron Shiba when delivering food, but today I felt even stronger when I saw the troops"

If someone asks you what it is, you don't have enough answers to convince them.

It's just that Kang as a merchant is sending out an alarm.

Saying it's dangerous as it is.

"My husband was foolish... my father-in-law said he was timid like me"

I guess the Earl of Salzberg, who returned to the mansion, asked me about the interaction I had with the old man on the watchtower.

"Thank you, Count Salzberg. You tend only to recognize the visible power of money and force..."

"Even though it's realistic..."

"I know. The Count is never incompetent. If I was incompetent, I wouldn't have offered you to my wife... I didn't need to give you away."

The old man, as if throwing away, squeezes his hands when he lays down his face.

(Yes, if Count Thomas Salzberg was incompetent, who would offer his lovely daughter to his wife)

The old man controls the economy of Ipilos.

That is why I had heard so much about Count Salzberg's poor bare behavior that I said no.

Bad femininity, dirty gold. Neither of them deserve my daughter's son-in-law very much.

Still, there's only one thing that got my daughter out to the Count's wife.

I couldn't possibly not let it out.

Never the marriage you wanted yourself to be. That's why the two never go down with the Count.

"Well, not now. The development of the peninsula takes time. There will be no immediate movement. Besides, I'm confusing a few undercover detectives. It's the same for you, isn't it?

"Yes, I pressed the maid of the mansion to look after a few barons around me. I will receive regular letters from them in the future."

These are the daughters that Liangzhen had been preparing since the other day when she visited Count Salzberg's mansion.

There is no more betrayal for them than their relatives living in the villages of Count's territory.

It is a covert detective dressed up.

"Uhm, standing up and hostile is a lower measure... but leaving it alone is too dangerous. I guess we'll just have to monitor and gather information. How will he treat his daughters' letters? So I can see how much he thinks."

I don't need to tell you a huge secret.

What they ask for is routine information.

Do you have food, water, weather? Information that does not make sense on its own, such as who it was with.

But if anyone who sorts it out with Kitin and knows its value asks, it becomes a valuable source worth a thousand dollars.

And if we respond by withholding their letters and so on, that will be the criterion for determining that Ryo Mitsuzai is hostile to ourselves.

There's no harm in falling either way.

While relieved by her father's calm judgment, Julia spoke of certain matters that had come to her dreaded heart.

That's a thought that's been hidden in the depths of her heart ever since she became the Count's wife.

"Father... if..."

The old man nods silently at Julia, who turns his exploratory gaze.

"I know. But I just don't know at this stage... I still can't move now. Sorry. Julia."

That said, the old man stood in the chair where he was sitting.

And hold Julia's body silently.

It was full of kindness and strength, as if to refrain from crying toddlers.
