Chapter 4, Episode 31 [At Harvest] Part 1

All beginnings. It goes back a few days from the day when the Zaluda invading army, led by the First Empress of the Ortomean Empire, Chardina Eisenhardt, began rushing to prepare for withdrawal.

A giant fortress lit with brilliant lights rises on a flat earth that stretches everywhere.

A robust fortress made of stone would not be frightened by a half-breed attack.

The thousands of defensemen stationed inside alert the approaching humans without alarm.

Inside the warehouse set up inside the fort were mountains of food and weapons collected from all over the Altomere Empire for the invasion of Zaluda.

And work with urban areas dotted in the rear.

If we were to choose it as a force attack from the front, we would have to put together tens of thousands of soldiers and spend more than a few months using a large number of siege weapons.

"Is that Fort Notice... I see, that's a big fort indeed"

As the man lifts his helmet face up as he is loosened by his horse's back, he stares at the fort, which gradually increases its appearance.

In fact, this fortress, built on the western edge of the Plain of Notice, continued to exist as a defensive base against the Kingdom of Zaluda for decades after it was built.

Just as Fort Ushas is the last jetty for Zaluda to hold back Oltomere's invasion, so for Oltomere this Fort Notis is the key to Eastern defense.

"Yes, but now..."

A small squire following beside the man's whining replied with a bell-ringing beauty.

Rich curved chest.

I don't know his face because he's face-down, but what spills from the gap in his helmet is silver hair that emits a silky glow.

The man shrugs his shoulders and nods at the girl's words.

"Well... that's why I dined with this. If we fail here, we have no face to make Mr. Elena see us."

Indeed, it can be said that the positive-attack method makes it difficult to drop Fort Notice.

But it's not that it's absolutely impossible if you don't even choose the means.

I've spent a lot of time preparing for it.

And then I finally visited... at this time...

"Thank you for waiting. We've had some trouble explaining, but they're going to allow us to enter the castle."

A knight came running his horse from the fort, and his breath was constantly raised in front of the man.

As he gently raises his right hand to the figure and labors, the man looks back at the long line that follows behind him.

(All set... they're doing exactly what I expected...)

Even under the guise of calm on the surface, the man's heart was desolate with anxiety and impatience.

The survival of a nation rests firmly on its thick shoulders.

A decent human would be the mountain of Sekiyama who would be ashamed and unable to move.

But a man doesn't know that in his heart there is such a mixture of hungry thirst for fighting. I don't know that there is a mix of joy in getting a chance to show my power to the fullest.

(I'm fine... I'm sure it will work... nothing will change then and the essence)

Lips dry on teases with tension and excitement.

The childhood scene that should have passed many years ago came to mind.

When I was desperate to protect my place and my pride...

"Let's go!

The surroundings snort silently at the man's words.

The group slowly proceeded along the streets leading from the town of Adelfo to Fort Nottis.

The sound of countless horses and carriage wheels.

Illuminated by the lights of the pine lights in the dark night, the silver armor is brilliant.

It's a bunch of messengers who came to announce their death from the Underworld...

The stage is the Plain of Notice, close to the border between the Altomere Empire and the Kingdom of Zaluda. Return to this beginning land where General Berhares, known as the patron saint of the Kingdom of Zaluda, has been jaded.

"Finally the next transport unit arrives... two thousand escorts... um, whatever it is, this is going to take a breath..."

A boneless office set in the corner of the robust Fort Notice.

With a deep sigh, Greg Moore, Fort Notice's defensive captain and head of backward support, slowly raised purple smoke from his mouth.

The flavour of a cigar, the finest product from the Central Continent, calms the irritating mind.

"Yes, he brought the weapons and food gathered in Imperial City."

When Moore placed the cigar in his hand on the ashtray, he received the documents offered from the vicinity.

Indeed, it is a formal one with the mark of the Altomere Empire.

"I see... but you seem to have more than you planned?

"Yes... I was wondering if it presupposes a raid..."

Hearing the words, Moore's temples moved pickly.

"Joshua Berhares..."

Blonde hair is cut short. That's a shitty face.

A disappointing physique.

And the peculiar smell of human release that has survived the battlefield for a long time emitted from the body.

The laceration marks running on the left cheek make others feel painfully intimidated.

Because of his age, he is getting a little hungry, but his strength as a warrior is unquestionable.

With more than first-rate power as such a warrior, there is naturally a reason why he is entrusted to the defensive captain of this Fort Notice and the head of backward support.

Moore's big hand unconsciously rubbed her right leg.

Wounds fought against the Zaluda knights in the battle of the Plains of Notice.

I was forced to amputate myself as a result of being trampled by a horse's hoof, a leg I should have already lost.

I used expensive secret medicine like hot water and finally regenerated my legs as a result of the generous treatment by a high-ranking magician, but I still feel somewhat uncomfortable with it.

There is no obstacle to everyday life.

But when I wore my armor and waved my favorite sword, I felt like I couldn't help stomping on my feet.

There would be nothing wrong with a miscellaneous opponent who can't use martial arts. Because the difference between whether or not a spell can be used is so great.

There's nothing wrong with a young knight just after he meets the magic. Because from Moore's eyes, there's no big difference from a miscellaneous soldier, such as a misguided warrior who can't identify his own power.

But it's not enough to deal with warriors of war who have met martial arts and survived many battlefields.

That's just a small discomfort.

But that little discomfort can kill you on the battlefield.

(If this leg is even decent... I'll go out to the front myself and smash it with His Highness...)

I never intended to defy or insult the task of backward defense, but it didn't turn out to be teething for Moore, who came out on the front line long enough to slaughter his enemies.

Turn your gaze in chills at the beloved sword standing on the wall.

"Abominable pests... I can't believe I'm still scratching my feet while I've already seen victory and defeat... all my parents and children are angry. Trying to hold back my Ortomere feat, etc... well, good. Now we can finally forgive His Majesty's mood."

A prolonged war situation.

I have been told that the front line is nailed to the Ushas basin.

Moore threw up abominably out of frustration not standing on the front line.

"The transport unit that sent him to Zaluda's side was also quite damaged by enemy attacks, so the anger of His Highness is only natural..."

Local procurement of supplies was extremely difficult as a result of Zaluda's choice of Operation Scorched Earth.

And no matter how big a difference we make in the number of soldiers, we can't show that price without food and replacement weapons.

"An arrow-like reminder had come from His Highness Chardina these days, but now you're finally going to keep my face..."

Regardless, not all of them have been taken away, but in order to be alert to sporadic ambushes, the speed of the transport units has been extremely reduced, and there has been little damage to supplies.

The biggest reason for this would be that Zaluda didn't try to bring the supplies back.

Without hesitation, set fire to the load and crush it with a rock.

It should never be detrimental to your own army if you take it away, but it doesn't give you any colour.

Taking advantage of the narrow streets cut through the mountains, they ambush themselves at the points where they can most efficiently attack.

We have to increase the number of guard units if we are alert to ambushes, and the speed of transport will decrease.

If, on the contrary, emphasis is placed on speed, the quantity of supplies to be carried and the number of troops to be protected will in no way be limited.

"Well, that's apparently the end of it,"

The proximity nods silently as she watches Moore hoist her lips and laugh.

From the front line comes information that says Chardina has finally made the decision to launch a total offensive against Fort Ushas.

"Yes...... all you have to do after is carry this supplies to the front line. Well, it would be enough to put two thousand guard soldiers on the people who came this time."

The ambush unit led by Joshua, which bounces through the mountainous areas of Zaluda, is estimated to be several hundred to many, or a thousand.

Because that's how many soldiers you command to maintain light manoeuvre.

"Um, with nearly four thousand troops, that abominable young man is so easy to reach. The problem is that the number of guards in the fort is temporarily depressing..."

When I hear the words near me, Moore thinks with her hands in her chin.

The guards at Fort Nottis, who initially counted five thousand, were also now down to the point of whether or not to slightly exceed two thousand and five hundred.

If 2,000 men were to be put on guard from there, the soldiers of Fort Nottis would fall to nearly five hundred.

I would be able to respond adequately to bandit raids, etc., but I am very uncomfortable with the number of important bases to protect, not to mention within Ortomere.

"What do you say we wait for the return of the troops we sent?

"No, given the tightness of the front line, you'd better deliver it as soon as possible"

Moore shakes his head at a nearby inquiry as he looks at the order he took out of the drawer.

You can't interrupt Chardina's will to hang a total attack.

Read the determination from that Moore look, and the proximity nods small.

"Then I'm ready, so now you'll excuse me"

The vicinity graciously leaves the office behind.

Moore shrugged small as she watched behind it.

"Almost there... everything will be back to normal when this battle is over..."

It is a large country, but its dominant base is brittle compared to other countries.

And now it is good to say that the rule of the Altomere Empire is shaking heavily.

The biggest reason for this is the result of the hollowing out of domestic security within the Altomere Empire as a result of the Zaluda invasion.

Chardina, who envisioned a short-term showdown, has pulled out a significant number of soldiers over all parts of the country.

Especially when it comes to leaving only minimal policing units out of small rural areas, small urban areas that are less strategically important, etc.

Since it was virtually impossible to pull the Quartet out of the Border Guard for Ortomere surrounded by enemy countries, it is an inconclusive decision, but security in Ortomere was extremely deteriorating as a result.

In particular, banditry is fairly frequent in towns and villages slightly off the main streets.

Nothing. Moore isn't trying to spoil civilians.

Nor is it due to the noble sense of mission of the ruler, etc.

What matters in this earth world is the state, not the individual.

Not to mention being treated like dust and mustard, such as civilian lives.

But decreasing security is never a good problem for the Ortomean Empire, an aggressive nation.

It is difficult to adopt a policy that completely ignores the civilian population, even though it is not worth it.

The deterioration of security means that the country's prestige will be scratched, and civilians will begin to question the rule of the Altomere Empire.

Even if in my mind I think of civilians like dust and mustard, if they actually rebel, that would be a problem.

Because once there is a rebellion, dissatisfaction can become chained and uncollectible.

And there will be a huge impact on tax revenues and transactions as well.

Now that the Kingdom of Zaluda offensive is halfway down the road, if the domestic situation deteriorated, the invading forces could have been isolated on enemy land.

(It doesn't taste good to explode civilian discontent right now. It's best not to kill him alive...)

Moore, a samurai but aware of the matter, can be described as one of the most difficult talents in the Altomere Empire.

For the Ortomean Empire, which boasts a vast territory. If you were just a strong person, there were a few people who would shoulder Moore.

Many people will be more learned and more intelligent than Moore.

However, few humans are able to combine both of them to a high standard.

Even the other day, villages near Adelfo had been devastated by a massive bandit raid.

To end it, Moore was interviewing the Imperial City of Ortomere to send troops to maintain law and order, and has assigned a considerable number of troops from the defense to restore law and order everywhere.

It is good to say that restoring security is a top priority in order to bring in and out of the transport units of supplies safely.

"Your Highness Chardina... please be patient for a while..."

Moore shrugged to pray to Chardina, who fights far away, as he turned his eyes to the full starry sky that stretches out the window.

That would not be the right figure as a knight to make allegiance to the Ortomean Empire.

But that's why Greg Moore didn't notice.

To the appearance of a reaper sneaking behind his own back...
