Chapter 34: Don’t Tell Me Your Parents Saw Us That Day?

"That’s all," Miss King said.

"Alright, I understand," Adrian Grant replied.

After Miss King left, Caroline Whitman came out of the kitchen with a glass of water. "If you don’t stay at The Seraphic for so long, won’t you be exposed if your family suddenly goes looking for you?"

Adrian was sitting on the sofa, scrolling through his phone. "They already know," he said calmly.

"What?" Caroline asked in confusion.

"I checked the security footage. They visited The Seraphic a few days ago."

"Are you going back to stay there for a few days?"

"No need. I have so many properties; it’s perfectly normal to rotate where I sleep."

That made a lot of sense.

"However," Adrian murmured, checking the dates on the footage and calculating.

"However what?" Caroline asked.

"The day they went to The Seraphic happened to be the day you worked overtime last weekend."

The entire day immediately flashed through Caroline’s mind. At noon, she and Adrian had taken the kid to eat at a private kitchen restaurant. Suddenly, she shivered. "Did your parents happen to bump into us that day?"

Adrian didn’t look nervous at all. He just kept scrolling on his phone, typing something. After a moment, he put down his phone and stood up. "We’ll know the answer tomorrow."

「At the Brocade Bay intersection.」

Inside the driver’s seat of an ordinary black sedan, a man spoke into his phone. "Don’t worry, Special Assistant King, I didn’t lose him. It’s just... President Grant’s car drove into Brocade Bay, and he hasn’t come out for half an hour."

The reply came from the other end of the line. "Keep watching. See when President Grant comes out."

「Six o’clock in the morning.」

"Special Assistant King, well, President Grant’s car still hasn’t come out of Brocade Bay. Speaking of which, doesn’t he live at The Seraphic? Why is he staying at Brocade Bay..."

Special Assistant King was still lying in bed. He stared blankly as he listened to the tail’s report, but he quickly caught on. "President Grant didn’t take Miss Whitman home last night?"

"Nope... After President Grant went in last night, he never came back out. I don’t know if he switched cars, but I took pictures of every vehicle that left Brocade Bay."

Adrian had many cars under his name, and since they worked for Gavin Grant, it was impossible for them to know every single detail of Adrian’s life.

"Alright, you can come back now."

"Got it."

After hanging up, Special Assistant King hurriedly got up to brush his teeth and wash his face. He waited until Gavin woke up before reporting the matter to him.

「Inside Brocade Bay.」

Ryan Grant’s biological clock woke him up at six-thirty. He had gone to bed early last night, sleeping by himself. The first thing he did upon waking up was go to the master bedroom to find his parents.

But when he pushed the door open, only Caroline was sound asleep on the bed.

He wondered, "Where’s my dad?"

He turned his head to look at the closed door of the adjacent guest bedroom. He scrunched up his little face in deep thought, then finally turned and walked over to it. Pushing the door open, he indeed saw his familiar dad lying on the bed. He climbed up, leaned close to Adrian’s ear, and asked, "Daddy, why are you sleeping here?"

Adrian was shaken awake. Right as he opened his eyes, the lights snapped on with a CLICK.

Squinting, he saw Tiny beside him, stretching out a chubby little hand to stroke his face while calling him "Daddy."

Although he had already accepted the fact that he had a son this old over the past few days, the sudden dual visual and auditory impact of being shaken by a child shouting "Daddy" was still a bit too much.

It only took him two seconds to calmly sit up. He casually grabbed the glasses resting on the nightstand, put them on, and asked, "What’s wrong?"

"Daddy, why are you sleeping here today? Why did you leave Mommy to sleep all alone?"

Adrian glanced at the time. Six-thirty in the morning.

Wonderful.

Usually, they would wake up before Ryan. Even on weekends, they either slept together with the child or woke up before him. A situation like today was a first.

However, faced with the little boy’s interrogation, he could still handle it with ease. "Daddy came back late last night, and your mommy went to sleep first. So as not to disturb her, Daddy slept in this room."

Ryan blinked, wearing an expression that clearly said, "I may be small, but don’t try to fool me." He blamed himself for falling asleep too early last night; he had no idea when they had returned. Puffing his cheeks, he said, "Okay, I’ll believe Daddy this once."

"When you went into Mommy’s room, you didn’t wake her up, did you?"

"No."

"Good. Are you hungry?" Adrian threw off the covers and got out of bed. "Daddy will make you breakfast. Remember, don’t wake Mommy up."

Ryan nodded obediently. "Okay."

Caroline woke up at eight o’clock. When she got up, Ryan was drawing in the living room. As for Adrian...

"Mommy, Daddy left breakfast for you."

"Where’s your dad?"

"He’s in the study."

"Oh."

After washing up and eating breakfast, Caroline walked over to the study and knocked twice. Only when she heard a "Come in" did she push the door open and enter.

"What did you want to see me for?" Caroline got straight to the point as soon as she walked in.

While eating breakfast, she had received a message from Adrian asking her to come to the study. It felt so mysterious. Whatever it was, it had to be said face-to-face.

"Ryan woke up at six-thirty this morning," Adrian simply stated after she came in.

Upon hearing this, Caroline instantly understood and got on his wavelength. Thinking about Ryan’s peaceful reaction this morning, she was a bit curious. "How did you keep him from crying?"

Adrian repeated the excuse he had given Ryan.

Caroline raised an eyebrow. "You reacted pretty quickly."

Not lingering on the topic, Adrian casually asked, "What time are you going back to the Whitman estate today?"

Caroline glanced at her messages. Franklin Whitman hadn’t rushed her to come home yet, so she replied, "In a little bit."

They had originally planned to take the child out of the city to play this weekend. After all, there was a high risk of being discovered if they stayed within Kingsport. But last night, Franklin had told Caroline to return to the estate today, meaning she wouldn’t be able to join the trip.

Still, Caroline couldn’t help but ask, "Are you still taking him out of the city to play today?"

When it came to taking the child out for the weekend, Adrian felt an inexplicable trace of exhaustion. He felt that looking after a kid was even more tiring than negotiating a business deal. Every time they took him out, they had to be careful not to let anyone discover Ryan’s existence. Thankfully, the boy was quite well-behaved and had never made a fuss in public.

Adrian leaned lazily back against his chair and turned his head to look at the sky outside the window. It was overcast. It was going to rain. This kind of weather wasn’t suitable for a trip.

Just as he thought this, a light drizzle began to fall from the sky with a PITTER-PATTER.

Adrian checked the weather in the surrounding cities; the heavens were uncooperative there, too. "We can’t travel to the neighboring cities this weekend."

Caroline felt a bit of pity and expressed her belated regret. "Oh, I was thinking that if you guys weren’t leaving the city today, I could keep you company and go see a movie this morning. But since it’s raining, you should just stay home with him."

Adrian looked up at her with a meaningful gaze. He turned his head to look at the rain outside the window. The drizzle seemed to have stopped.

Adrian turned back around and gave Caroline a friendly smile. "The rain has stopped. As you wish."

Speechless and refusing to believe it, Caroline walked over to the window, pulled back the sheer curtain, and took a close look outside.

Holy crap! The rain had actually stopped.

Was this how the power of words worked?
