Chapter 858: A Love Test
After drying Houqin's hair in the changing room, the two of them could finally head over to Xiaoyun's bedroom together.
"Who turned off my bedroom light?"
Xiaoyun didn't think too much into it as he opened the door, flipping the switch and revealing his bedroom to Houqin for the very first time.
"Wow... This bed is so big."
Houqin was in a little shock as the sheer size of the bed in front of her was almost 10x the one she sleeps in.
"It can get even bigger. This thing here can slide out to make an even bigger bed... But it's a pain in the ass to put it back in."
The moment he demonstrated the retractable wheel, Houqin's jaw dropped even more as more of the bed came straight out of the wall.
"Why would anyone need such a big bed?"
"Well..."
For once, Xiaoyun was the one who fell into an awkward silence. He knew bringing up names of other women in such a sensitive area was a bad idea.
"Oh, you don't have to tell me anymore." Houqin quietly murmured as her face blushed red, seemingly as if she had realized it.
"Ahem, Let's just go to sleep."
Throwing the towel aside, he quickly leaned down onto the bed, pulling the blanket back up before noticing Houqin standing there.
"Is there something wrong?"
"I-Is there no clothes I can wear?" Houqin shyly asked as her hands tightly held onto the towel over her body.
"Oops. Let me go find the clothes we brought together... Now where did I put it when I came back home?"
Flipping open several of his closets, Xiaoyun soon found the closet that had the bags full of brand new clothes.
"Here it is... Oh crap."
As Xiaoyun pulled the clothes one by one, all of the clothes were either full-body dresses meant for formal meetings or for outdoor wear.
None of them looked comfortable enough to be pajamas. What's worse was the lack of undergarments in the bag.
"You want me to go ask themβ"
"It's okay. I can wear this to sleep."
Houqin quickly picked up a red dress from the bag, taking off her towel aside before putting the dress on.
"Are you sure?" Xiaoyun questioned as he looked away from her, not wanting to make her feel more uncomfortable.
"It's fine."
"If you say so."
Putting the bags back inside the closet, Xiaoyun's brain suddenly decided to go to the other closet to put on a pair of boxers.
"Let's go to sleep now."
After flipping the switch, the room darkened as Houqin leaned down onto the bed first, followed by Xiaoyun leaning down onto the other side.
"Houqin, I know they might have told you to do something tonight, but I just want to say, be yourself."
"Why are you suddenly saying that?"
"Just an intuition."
Xiaoyun paused for a second, then continued.
"Please don't let them dictate what you do. You're an independent person who can think for yourself.
I don't want you to do something you might regret in the future. If you don't feel like doing it, don't force yourself."
"Thank you."
Houqin didn't speak up any further as Xiaoyun slowly pulled up the big blanket, covering the two of them before closing his eyes.
"Goodnight, Houqin."
"Goodnight..."
---
A plane crash.
The sky falling, the ground approaching closer and closer through the window.
Everything was changing in the blink of an eye. His body lunged forward as the seatbelt yanked him back.
A zombie suddenly appeared, holding onto his neck firmly. Breathing became harder and harder every second...
Until his vision faded to black.
---
"Ah fuck!"
When Xiaoyun opened his eyes from the nightmare, it was currently midnight as the moonlight illuminated the clock.
The blanket over his body was long kicked aside. As he looked over to the left, a face was looking right at him.
One that looked more familiar than any other time he had witnessed in the past. Not just any face.
A zombie face attached to a red dress. Rotten skin with a foul smell enough to make anyone throw up just from being near it.
"H-Houqin?"
Xiaoyun immediately scooted away from Houqin. His eyes were initially full of fear as he didn't expect her to turn back into a zombie.
"Xiaoyun, do you love me?"
Houqin questioned in a dampened voice, her eyes staring into his face as she tilted her head slightly.
"Houqin, what happened to you?" Xiaoyun questioned as the fear started to dissipate.
"Xiaoyun, do you love me?"
"Stop joking with me now. Why are you like this again? Please turn back to normal. I don't like this at all."
"Xiaoyun, do you love me?"
As Houqin asked the same question for the third time, the fear in Xiaoyun's eyes finally vanished.
In its place was a determination. Courage. A sense of responsibility to save her no matter what the cost is.
"I love you."
"You do?" Houqin questioned as her head robotically tilted back up to normal, not blinking a single time.
"I do. Quite frankly, I love you more than ever. I'm so madly in love with you that I don't care if you're a zombie or a human anymore."
One inch, two inches, three inches. Xiaoyun started moving closer and closer. Through the moonlight, he could clearly see in the dark room.
It was the same rotten flesh on her face and body. No different than what Houqin was like before the treatment he had done for her.
The pale, greenish skin that had exposed flesh over her shoulder, barely able to be covered by the red dress she wore.
"Do you want me to prove how much I love you?"
"Prove?"
She sat there completely still, looking back at Xiaoyun with a confused look. It was almost as if she couldn't understand what word he had just spoken.
"You're perfect the way you are. I love you... I'm not going to change anything about you anymore."
As Xiaoyun moved all the way up to her face, she still sat there, not moving and looking back at him with a confused expression.
"I love you."
Kissed. Their lips touched as he closed his eyes. Xiaoyun had stuck his tongue out as Houqin's pale face blushed red.
"Mhm!"
At first, Houqin tried to push him away, but her hand soon came to a stop as Xiaoyun's hand reached behind her back.
The weird skin texture had not stopped him at all as he gently rubbed his hand against Houqin's shoulder before moving down to her waist.
Only when his hand started moving up towards her breast did she bite down on his tongue to put a stop to it.
"Ow!"
"What are you doing?"
In a snap of a second, her human skin reappeared, followed by her voice returning to normal again as Houqin looked towards him in shock.
"To prove to you that I love you."
"Y-You..."
Houqin couldn't speak a single sentence. Her mind was still shocked by him giving her a French kiss while she had such ugly looks.
"So did I pass the test or not?"
"How did you know I was testing you?"
"What kind of zombie asks me if I love them three times in a row? I have to be extra dumb to fall for that."
"But you... You kissed me."
"Yeah, I did. Ahem, ahem... It did smell a little strong, though. You definitely needed to brush your teeth, zombie or not."
As Xiaoyun started reminiscing about the kiss, Houqin's face started to blush redder and redder before she interrupted him.
"Stop thinking about it!" Houqin warned as she punched him on the chest, shyly looking down at the bed.
"Okay, okay... So now what?"
As the two of them sat in the dark room in silence, both sides were thinking of things that could not be further apart.
For Xiaoyun, he was letting out a small sigh of relief. He was extremely worried that Houqin had actually reverted to a zombie.
He wasn't about to spend another day fixing her up, not to mention the concern that she might revert back to a zombie again.
Meanwhile, Houqin couldn't believe Xiaoyun had the courage to go this far when it should have triggered some sort of PTSD.
No one in their right mind would stick their tongue and even try to grope a zombie who can very well bite their body.
"Xiaoyun, you don't actually care how I look?" Houqin quietly asked.
"I mean..."
Xiaoyun hesitated. He knew the correct answer, but his gut really didn't want to accidently awaken something weird inside him.
"It would be nice if you looked more human, like right now... But if you find it annoying, then I guess I'll just have to live with it."
After a whole minute of silence, Houqin finally got the courage to speak up and look him right in the eyes.
"They... They really are right about you."
"Right about what?"
"Nothing."
"Did Leyan or Yuqi make some stupid comment about me? Whatever they had said about me, it's fake newsβ"
"They said you're a pervert."
