Chapter 3: Second Floor

Haru stopped at a convenience store to buy food and then headed to the dungeon. He was curious about his new strength. With all that power, he wondered if he could kill a white wolf with a single blow. He wasn’t an adventurer who looked at monsters’ status, so he never knew how many hits it would take to kill a slime. Even after many years, he had always needed to hit them many times, and he had never counted the number of blows.

He paid the entrance fee and looked at some items that were for sale. He noticed a drop collection ring, only fifty silver coins. He walked over and read the description, it was only for rent. To pay the daily fee, he had to kill a thousand slimes. Considering the first floor had two hundred of them and they respawned every two minutes, it was possible to kill enough to pay for one day’s rental. Automatic collection would save him a lot of time and spare him the back pain he always felt whenever he left the dungeon.

He thought about renting it, but before he could make a decision, the woman in bikini armor appeared and took the ring with her.

Her body had a different scent. He had an excellent sense of smell, and when she came close to him, that fragrance was the only thing he could focus on. Part of her arm brushed against him, his penis became as hard as an iron bar, but then it went so limp it could be used as a handkerchief to wipe away tears of disappointment.

He entered the dungeon but didn’t see anyone. Once again, he had the dungeon all to himself and that woman, though she was probably on a lower floor.

He took the bat out of his inventory bag. With a single swing, he managed to kill a slime. He tried again on another one, and once more, a single hit was enough to kill the monster. He continued killing them, but it took time to find another slime since he had to crouch down to collect the drops and then walk around to find another one. After a few more kills, he already had more than twenty crystals and not a single new level.

He noticed two more people in the dungeon, a blonde woman wearing shorts short enough to reveal part of her butt, and another man, whom he made no effort to pay attention to. That woman’s breasts occupied his entire mind. They were squeezed into a small, almost transparent shirt. At that moment, his penis was in combat position, but a slime made him run in the opposite direction from her. He killed it.

The man started killing some slimes, so it would become harder for him to keep hunting on that floor. So, for the first time, he decided to go down to the wolves’ floor. He had no idea what those monsters looked like, but he knew they were worth a little more. Their crystal was worth four coins, and their claw, three copper coins. There were also crystal snakes. Their crystals were worth the same amount, but the venom they dropped was worth four copper coins, and it sold very well. Depending on the time of year, it was worth even more since it was used in medicine.

A howl made him fall to the ground.

He looked around and didn’t see any monsters. When he got back to his feet, he looked down and saw a small dog, then started laughing.

’So this is the white wolf?’

Haru grabbed the bat and struck the monster.

[White Wolf defeated, +5 xp]

He crouched down and collected the crystal and the claw. Then he killed a crystal snake, also with a single hit.

[Crystal Snake defeated, +6 xp]

The snake dropped a crystal and venom. He could sell them to the guild or to a laboratory, but it was faster to sell them directly to the guild, even though they paid less.

A muscular man walked past him. Beside him was a woman wearing black shorts and a white sleeveless shirt. The two of them quickly headed to the lower floors. Haru was tempted to do the same. As he looked at the woman’s butt, he thought about the dangers. The next floor had goblins, monsters considered intelligent. Even though they were considered beginner-level monsters, they could still defeat even a more experienced adventurer if they started forming a group.

Haru continued killing monsters on the second floor, but he planned to buy or rent some equipment to go to the third, and maybe even the fourth floor. He didn’t know what monsters were there because he hadn’t paid attention during the training.

[Level Up!]

’Finally.’

[All attributes increased by 1 point.]

[New skill acquired: Uncertain Gain]

[1% chance for each defeated monster to drop one copper coin.]

It wasn’t a very good skill, but at the same time, it was better than having none.

He continued killing a few more monsters, which was very easy since the wolves, when they howled, called more wolves, and with every kill, new wolves appeared. He was able to kill them and collect the drops quickly, but before long, he grew tired. Less than two hours had passed. He decided to leave the dungeon and rest.

He exchanged the drops, earning more than one hundred silver coins. The receptionist wanted to ask what had happened since he always stayed only on the first floor, but she gave up for fear of seeming rude. Even so, she was very curious, especially because of his class. She felt envious of his class level, but not of the class itself, since a class that wasn’t combat-oriented didn’t have much of a chance in dungeons or in the army.

He went to the cafeteria and sat at a table. He ordered a cup of tea and then returned to the counter. There, he looked at the weapons and their prices. At the rate he was killing monsters, he would soon be able to buy a lot of equipment, but what he needed most was some artifact that would help with collecting drops.

He had two options. The first was to buy or rent one. The second was to go into the dungeon and hope a monster dropped what he wanted. But those artifacts only dropped from monsters on the fifth floor onward, and the drop rate was very low.

The baseball bat was worn out and could break at any moment, especially if he kept hitting crystal snakes. Because of that, he looked at the weapons. He didn’t know how to use a sword or any other weapon, so he wanted something similar to a bat or a hammer. But he liked a pistol, which was unusual since those weapons were supposed to be magical weapons obtained by killing monsters. Pistols and other firearms weren’t dropped by monsters, or at least that was what he thought.

"I’m curious about this pistol," he said while pointing at the weapon.

The receptionist walked over to the pistol, and as she walked, her breasts swayed in harmony. It was hard not to be hypnotized by those gentle movements.

"That weapon dropped from an archer goblin. It’s been here for many years. To this day, no one has managed to use it, so no one has ever bought it."

"But why is it still here?"

"We still intend to sell it someday, we just haven’t found anyone who wants to buy it."

"Can’t someone just buy bullets for it and use it?"

"No. Regular bullets don’t work with it. To this day, no one has figured out how to use it."

A firearm would be useful in some situations, but it was useless in most of them, since someone with a pistol would lose a duel against a Mage or even a knight, as bullets would hardly penetrate the armor created by the skill.

He kept looking at the weapons and chose the cheapest one. He spent fifty silver coins on a sword that looked fragile compared to the others, but it was still stronger than the bat he had been using.
