Chapter 2: Lucky Player

Kanzaki Hayato watched the light without understanding what it meant. He knew the class was above Rare, but he didn’t know that this light only appeared when Imperial-level classes emerged. He was too far from the old man to hear him.

[Class: Lucky Player...]

[Modifying name...]

[Process completed, your class will be shown to others as: Accountant.]

[All attributes have received +10 points.]

Now he had enough strength to kill slimes more easily.

"Kanzaki Haru’s class is Accountant... Imperial-level."

The people fell silent. His brother was jealous of the class’s rank, but at the same time happy, since an Accountant, regardless of its level, could never surpass any combat class, so the family’s number one spot was still his.

Haru began to see the world differently. Beside everyone who had a class, he could see their name, level, and class. He still didn’t know that woman’s name. When he approached her, she immediately began to look down on him.

"I thought you were better than this, but apparently I was wrong."

Even with huge breasts, Haru felt no attraction toward her. He could see she was very beautiful and that the curves of her body would be enough to get any penis hard, except his, because only one thought came to mind: ’Now it’ll be even harder for me to get the money to pay off the debt.’

He didn’t stay to see the new classes. He left the school and returned to the dungeon.

He paid the five copper coins and entered the first floor, but something felt strange, there were fewer people there. At that hour, many people usually went to the dungeons. He didn’t care, took the baseball bat out of his inventory, and landed the first blow on a slime that appeared. Then he struck it once more and managed to kill the slime with only two hits.

[Slime defeated, +3 XP]

Now he could gain experience from every kill, so it wasn’t that bad that he hadn’t received a combat class, at least that was what he thought. He kept killing slimes. With his newfound strength, he had already killed more than twenty in no time. After killing five more, he leveled up.

[Level UP!]

[All attributes increased by 1 point.]

’So this class really is terrible. If this keeps up, I’ll have to kill a lot of slimes, and that’ll take a long time. There goes my whole plan to get rich.’

He killed twenty more slimes and then headed to the reception desk. There, he saw the woman in bikini armor again. She was drenched in sweat, and the smell filled the otherwise empty hall. He watched her hand over all the strong monsters’ crystals along with the items the monsters had dropped. She didn’t receive any coins, which was common. Many adventurers received the money directly in their bank accounts, but Haru had always preferred to receive the coins in hand.

He received two silver coins and twenty-five copper coins for the crystals and slime jelly. With that money, he could buy food for two days.

He bought food from a street stall and headed home. After eating, he threw himself onto the couch. At that moment, he remembered something, he hadn’t stopped once to see what his class actually did. Every class granted abilities that were useful for certain roles, such as agility and strength for a fighter or intelligence for a teacher class.

’Open status.’

A blue screen with light-colored borders appeared. The text was white. He tapped a few places, and the screen changed to a wooden tone, making it easier to read.

[Lucky Player Class (Accountant), Imperial-level]

[Skill: Great Luck!

The player will initially receive a luck factor of 1.01. With every successful bet, luck will increase by a factor of 0.001. Every 0.01 increase in factor grants the player 10 points in all attributes. With every defeat, the player will lose 50 points from every attribute and return to the initial luck value. The maximum luck factor is 1.99.]

He read the text, but still couldn’t understand what it meant.

’Explain luck.’

The system didn’t respond.

’Luck.’

No response.

He noticed that the word factor was displayed in a slightly different color. He clicked on it and read:

[Luck Factor: the number multiplied by the probability of any event involving bets occurring. For example, heads or tails has a 50% chance for each side, but if the player’s factor is 1.50, then the probability of the chosen side appearing becomes 75%.]

He grew curious, turned on his phone, and accessed a betting website. His balance was one thousand copper coins.

He chose games with 1.01 ODDS that had already started. He bet one hundred coins on each one. After a few minutes, he received a notification from the site: one thousand and ten copper coins had been added to his balance.

[Luck Factor and Attributes UP]

’So that’s how it works...’

He repeated the process six more times, always making safe bets with very low ODDS.

Once again, his balance increased, and his attributes rose by sixty points, except for Luck, which increased by only 0.06.

He decided to run a test. He bet just one copper coin on a game with 20.00 ODDS. He waited for the game to end, and to his surprise, he won. He repeated the test on another game and lost. The system deducted 50 points from each attribute and reduced his luck.

’So my attributes can increase indefinitely, I just have to gain more than I lose whenever I lose a bet,’ he said with a broad smile as he put his plan into action.

He deposited all the money he had into the betting site, approximately two thousand copper coins, which wasn’t much, but it was more than enough for what he wanted. With that amount, he could make twenty more 1.01 ODDS bets, allowing him to increase his luck factor much faster.

He spent the entire night and part of the early morning placing bets. He managed to triple the money he had and gain another 100 points in every attribute.

’Now I’m ready to kill other monsters!’
