Chapter 77: Spider
Ren grabbed Luna and shot down the cave to the wolves. He tried his best to land as steadily as he could to not startle the wolves at all.
The young wolves bowed their heads the moment they saw Ren. It had become instinctive to respect him whenever he was seen. Not something that he had asked for, but something that he had gained.
Ren’s gaze locked onto the target wolf. The wolf felt the presence of someone looking at him. A shiver ran down its spine, yet it managed to keep its head down and tried to ignore Ren like he was not there.
’Playing, huh?’
Ren approached. He did not know what to expect, but he surely did not think what happened next would ever happen. As his hand reached for the wolf, it snapped, snarling and biting into Ren’s hand.
The teeth were not sharp enough, though, and neither was the strength of the wolf’s jaw, so the attack did nothing to him.
The scene of the bite stunned the other young wolves. Seeing their master’s hand getting chomped threw them into a panic. They immediately turned and scattered in every direction, eager to get away as fast as they could.
"You fucker," Ren cursed and stretched his second hand to grab the wolf, and it immediately let go of the hand that it had bitten and bolted into the forest at a speed that Ren could not fathom a wolf that size having.
"Shit."
Ren pushed off the ground and launched after it, running fast past the trees with his gaze locked onto the wolf that was fleeing like there was a rocket strapped to its ass.
Luna watched the two run away and began thinking if she should follow or if she should stay back. She ultimately chose to run after him.
The wolf weaved past trees extremely fast, using all four legs to ensure that he was nimble across every turn that he made. This allowed him to build up some distance between him and Ren, who was chasing behind.
"How the hell is that wolf this fast?" Ren asked as he dodged a tree. He tried to keep his movement minimal to ensure that he covered ground quickly. He wanted to catch up as soon as possible, but after seeing that the speed of this wolf was heavily unnatural and crazy, he decided to act differently.
"Chasing won’t work, so I’ll use this." He stomped his foot into the ground and then unleashed a thundering primordial roar. The sonic blast slammed into the trees and ripped them out of the ground. It proceeded to slam into the wolf, hurling it forward.
The wolf slammed into the ground hard, skidding across the floor until it stopped.
"Sorry that I had to use such force, little one, but I’m after what is inside you." Ren said and began approaching the now downed wolf, but when he was halfway there, the wolf suddenly stood back to its feet, but with red glowing eyes.
It opened its mouth, but not in the normal way. It opened it wider than possible and showed a row of mandible-looking teeth.
KREEEEEEEEEEEE!
It let out a screeching sound that could make someone deaf if they were too close.
"Well, that’s not normal." Ren commented. He did not get closer again and simply watched what was happening.
The wolf began tossing itself around, struggling to stand as bones began popping inside its body with loud sounds. Its size started changing as well, and then all of a sudden, large spider-like legs ripped out of the wolf, followed by a full-on transformation into a massive seven-foot-tall spider monster.
It looked extremely grotesque and disgusting. Its eight eyes were barely aligned and had different sizes. At the center of the spider was the wolf. It looked shriveled up so badly that Ren was not sure if it was alive.
"What the heck is this even meant to be?" Ren asked.
By this time, Luna caught up, and before she even got close, she used her eyes to look at the wolf, and she immediately ascertained that the wolf was still alive.
"The wolf is alive. Luna thinks you can kill the monster and save the wolf," she spoke without a single speck of fear about the fact that such a monster was standing before them.
"I see," Ren muttered. "I’ll make this fast and painful for taking my subordinate."
The spider seemed to understand that it was a threat and immediately acted on it. It bent its large bottom forward, and from it shot out a large amount of web at Ren.
Ren wasted no time using his chaos breath and burned the entire thing down in a second before charging in fast. He crossed the distance in an instant.
The spider lifted its two front legs and attacked with them, both coming down at the exact same spot in the hopes of hitting Ren, only for him to hit a very quick and sudden brake with the help of his wings. He planted one foot into the ground and spun into a kick.
BAM
CRACK!
Leg met legs, and the front legs of the spider were broken through in an instant. It staggered forward, filled with so much pain, and yet it managed to stop itself from falling.
Very quickly, it tried to use venom squirting to attack Ren, only for him to burst through it and throw a full-powered punch.
BAM!
His fist slammed into the head of the spider and knocked it back significantly. Ren went in once again, going all out on the spider, each blow so powerful that it started cracking the hard exoskeleton.
The spider tried its best to get away or attack, but it was far outclassed. Ren dodged everything that it threw at him, and then he got a clear chance at the side of the spider. He got onto it, placed his hand on the exoskeleton, and unleashed a massive yet very compressed blast of lightning that ripped right through it.
