Chapter 116: Watch me mum
Lia did not travel far before she saw a swarm of infected chasing after the townsfolk. They all rushed past her with fear in their eyes, doing whatever they could to ensure that they got away.
She stood in the wave, her eyes fixed on the infected that were coming as well. She drew a deep breath, and her sword ignited with green flame.
The first infected reached her, a six-foot-tall man with a mace and all eight spider legs sprouting from its back, the stuff of nightmares. It locked onto her in an instant, viewing her as an easy target.
It swung the mace down in a full hammer strike, wanting to squash her in an instant. She stepped to the side, her speed and movement flawless. The mace slammed into the ground and broke the floor, debris shooting in every direction. She moved before the debris could even hit the floor. Her sword was already in a stabbing motion, the flames burned hotter and increased the speed.
The infected tried to react, all eight legs coming down at her as fast as they could in an attempt to hit her before she could hit it. She was faster by a clean margin as the sword stabbed right through the infected with an explosive force.
BAM!
It sounded like an explosion as the flames ripped out the back, and a massive hole was left. She vanished the moment she was done and was already charging at the next infected. It saw her coming and immediately took a full spider form with no hesitation, going in for a bite with its powerful jaws. She leaped into the air and evaded the jaws, looked down, and slashed with all her might, unleashing a flame arc as large as the spider.
The attack cleaved the spider right in two.
She was still in the air when three infected attacked. They spun webs and shot them at her. Each web was the size of a human hand. If they managed to wrap around her, it would be difficult to get out of.
"Can’t get tangled," she muttered. She pulled all the force her body could muster into a spin in the air while her sword exuded an immense amount of flames, creating a vortex of flames that burned through the webs in seconds.
She landed on the floor after the flames cleared up, her eyes already moving around, locking on the infected that were rushing her way.
The first came in from the front barehanded. It threw a punch, and she dodged cleanly before slashing through its hands, then proceeded to kick it so hard in the ribs that the bone shattering could be heard. She gave herself enough space to dodge the sword of the next one. She leaned back and watched it pass right by her face. It did not relent after the attack and proceeded to use its spider legs to attack.
The attack was difficult to dodge since she was already leaning back. She decided to lean all the way into a flip and evade the attack. She moved cleanly in the flip and evaded it, but as she looked up, the infected was coming at her again.
"Pesky," she muttered in anger before bursting forward. Both of them passed each other. She stopped and stood tall while the infected collapsed to the ground with a large slash through its guts.
She took a deep breath and then proceeded to grip her sword with both hands. She waited for the infected to be close, and then she stabbed into the ground. The flames exploded in a wave around her, ten feet tall and extremely hot, killing and severely injuring the infected.
Huff huff huff.
Her breathing got heavy after that. She was struggling. This was the first time she had ever wielded this blade. The task of carrying it was something that she would need to master over time. Right now, her body was fighting her to adjust to the blade, but the more she fought, the harder that got.
The look in her eyes remained relentless regardless of the situation. Even with heavy breaths, her eyes told that she was nowhere near done. The memories of her mother using this sword with grace and massive control came to her mind.
"Mum was far more powerful and graceful. The weight of the sword was a hundred times more on her, and she managed to do that."
She said those words to remind herself, and it worked. She pulled the sword from the ground, and the flames around it ignited. She looked at the rest of the infected, and a smile formed on her normally cold face.
"Watch me, Mum."
The flames from the sword surged and proceeded to cover her body entirely. Then she controlled them down to her feet, and when she took her next step, she blasted forward so fast she turned into a streak of green light.
Her blade danced in her hands as she made sharp turns at that speed, each movement claiming the head of an infected. The infected saw a flash of green horror before they died. To Lia, this felt like a long process to cut each one down, taking all her focus and strength, but in reality, it took her a second, a flash.
When she stopped at the other side, the body of every infected there collapsed to the ground, and then she collapsed to one knee.
Huff huff huff.
Her breathing was so hot it released steam. She did her best to keep herself from collapsing at that moment. She was done, or so she thought, but she did not notice when one infected came out of the corner and rushed at her.
It was at the last possible moment that she saw him, and by then it was too late to react. She was going to die. But before the infected could get to her, a spear rushed through the air and stabbed it right through the head, pinning the infected to the ground.
