Chapter 2666: I’m Not Afraid with You Here (1)
Dan Tingye took out his phone, handed it to Meimei, and watched her try several times. Realizing she really couldn’t make a call, her face fell.
"So what do we do now?"
He leisurely took the phone back from Meimei’s hand, tossed it aside, and lay down on the grass, using his hands as a pillow under his head.
"Didn’t you just praise how beautiful it is here? Why not think of it as a camping trip, spend the night stargazing, and wait for someone to find us by morning."
He had already texted Yao; no one would come looking for them before dawn. They could fully enjoy their time together.
Dan Tingye lowered his eyes, a flash of brilliance passing through his obsidian-like pupils.
He quietly waited for Meimei to return to his side. Sensing someone sitting down beside him, he suddenly opened his eyes and looked at Meimei.
"Are you scared to stay here with me?"
If she was afraid, he would take her back.
"With Tingye here, I’m not scared." Meimei mimicked him, lying down on the grass. She blinked at the stars, and seemed to calm down completely.
"..."
Hearing this, Dan Tingye felt a slight warmth in his heart, as if a current flowed through.
He extended his arm for her to use as a pillow, naturally bringing her closer, "Lean on me; this way you won’t feel cold."
Meimei obediently followed his instructions, her petite body nestling against him, like a little rabbit resting in the crook of his arm.
After a day of outsmarting her assistant, and going in circles when she got lost, she was utterly exhausted.
Resting on Dan Tingye’s shoulder, she quickly began to yawn, inhaling his reassuring scent, her eyes slowly closing.
"Tingye..."
Meimei mumbled something, her small hand restlessly clutching his shirt, her tiny body snuggling closer, fearfully holding onto his waist.
It was as if she was back when she first stepped into the little forest...
Back then, she kept thinking about the words those people at the banquet said, wondering how she looked bewitching, why people kept accusing her of enticing Tingye. Lost in thought, she snapped back to reality only to find she was lost.
Having often traveled with her father before, getting lost in the forest wasn’t new to her, so her first reaction wasn’t panic but to find her phone.
Realizing she didn’t have her phone, she marked a tree as she passed, and under moonlight retraced her steps, only to find she was moving in circles, realizing the forest had traps.
She didn’t dare wander blindly, afraid that in the dark she’d fall into a trap, so she stayed put.
She knew that as soon as Tingye realized she was missing, he would come looking for her.
Though she didn’t know how long she had to wait, she just knew he would find her.
This thought seemed engraved in her very blood, keeping her from panicking or crying in the dimly lit woods.
"Tingye, I knew you would come..."
Meimei mumbled again, her beautiful big eyes tightly shut, her little face rubbing against his chest like a kitten.
At the moment she saw him, she was truly scared, but she smiled.
Hearing him scold her, she felt aggrieved, but hearing his concern, she couldn’t help smiling.
She just knew that Tingye would definitely find her.
