At first, Meimei didn’t quite understand what was happening. Now, hearing their conversation, she suddenly understood.

It turns out she was targeted by Tingye’s fan club...

Looking at the girls glaring at her, Meimei took a step back and glanced around.

This is just a small path, usually not many people pass by here. Plus, it’s after school, a time when everyone is eager to leave, so no one would notice if something happens here, right?

So if she’s bullied today, no one will see it, is that it?

"What do you want?" Meimei tightened her grip on the book she was holding, showing no trace of fear, only calmly observing the girls who were ignoring her and just chatting away.

Upon hearing her, the tall girl leading the pack raised her head to look at Meimei and walked over, looking down at her with an air of superiority.

"We don’t want anything, just reminding you to stay away from Dan Tingye. He’s everyone’s idol, and you, a girl with no background or status, what gives you the right to be his desk mate?"

They had all done their research. Meimei was now living alone in a neighborhood apartment block, and Bai’s Enterprise never announced her identity as their young lady. Plus, her attire was plain, usually just a white shirt and jeans, so everyone assumed she was a girl from a poor family. Seeing her attract their idol’s attention, she immediately became public enemy number one.

"If you don’t wise up, next time you won’t be so lucky." Lisa said, reaching out to snatch the book from her arms, ripping it and tossing it aside.

"Let’s go."

A few people brushed past the stunned Meimei and turned to leave.

Dan Tingye found her right as she was bending down to pick up the torn book on the ground. His tall figure immediately froze, watching her slender form, his hand silently clenched into a fist.

Just as he was about to approach, he saw her stand up from the ground, wearing an expression completely different from what he had imagined.

Not a trace of sadness or grievance from being bullied, not even a hint of displeasure, only a slight frown of annoyance, "Now I have to borrow Tingye’s notes and copy them again."

"..."

Dan Tingye paused in his tracks, a hint of surprise in his eyes.

She really had changed. When she was younger, if such a thing happened, she would surely hide somewhere crying until he found her, then she’d pitifully tell him what had happened.

But now, she seemed to pay no heed to those provocations, calmly picked up the book and was ready to leave.

Dan Tingye hadn’t expected her to be so carefree. By the time he regained his composure, he quickly hid in the nearby bushes as Meimei, seemingly worried about how to borrow his notes, walked straight past him without noticing.

But why is it that her strength now only makes him feel more heartache...

Dan Tingye watched her back, his palm slightly tightened, yet he didn’t chase after her.

-

Meimei had no idea that in a corner where she couldn’t see, Dan Tingye was silently watching her all along.

Looking at the torn book, she detoured to a bookstore on her way home to buy a new one.

At home, she made herself a bowl of noodles and ate while reviewing today’s lessons, enjoying it thoroughly, not affected in the least by the little episode after school.

GW is a really good university. There’s so much knowledge to learn here. By the end of the day, her mind was filled with lots of new information, making the small misunderstanding from her classmates seem utterly insignificant in comparison.
