A Chronicle of Life in a Different World

Episode 9: Adventurer Part 1

"Adventurer... union?

What is that, and Reurus leaks a voice of doubt in his heart.

It's the first word I've heard in the world, and it's probably more than a union and a name, it's an organization created for some purpose.

I have heard the word adventurer itself several times in my previous life. However, I didn't know whether Natalia's "adventurers" were subcultural or treasure hunters.

Natalia looks at Dominic with a confused realuse.

"Have you talked to the boy?

"Not yet. I thought that was your job as a receptionist."

"Isn't it really because it was a hassle to explain? You're not a good talker."

…………

Dominic silenced without saying anything to make fun of Natalia's words. Are you aware that you are a bad mouth or are you not going to go out with Natalia any further?

Natalia smiled bitterly at Dominic, and now she smiled glossy at Reurus. How many times will the Reurus see that smile, he murmurs in his heart, "It looks colorful".

--At the same time, I thought it was a smile that felt the distance and the wall.

"Boy, where are you from?

"Two days on foot from this town... three days? It is about the village of Shena... I'm not going back, I don't think I can, and I don't want to."

Reurus does not know the other person's position and answers in respectful terms. Shena Village would have been born and raised in this world, but I didn't want to go back even if asked to.

"Hmm... as far as the body is concerned, farmers. That's a lot worse than the environment and treatment... you escaped, huh?

"... that's the place."

While playing with the smoke tube with your right hand, your eyes just stare straight at it. Natalia must have noticed that Reurus had given up information, even though she had been sold as a slave.

"Boy, by the time Dominic and Tony recommend you, you'll be recognized as a“ close associate ”of this abandoned city of Laval. I'm not telling you to tell me everything, but if there's anything wrong, it's better for you to tell me.

Reurus was surprised by Natalia's words - he turned to Dominic before he could.

"My family....."

"... that means as it is. It's like a sweeping place. If it is judged to be sufficient to help each other, they will be treated as family members. If you just go into town, you'll be treated as an extra person, but if you accept it as a family member, most people will be close to you."

Dominic shut down that's how he lived.

As a realuse, I wanted to ask you about accepting in less than a day since we met. Credit and trust build up over time and shouldn't be built up in a day or so.

But Dominic accepted. And then I brought him to this Adventurers Association.

Reurus, I know you're not just a peasant.

"... yes?

I was impressed by Dominic's thoughtfulness in the middle and worried about him in the middle, but I accidentally leaked a lost voice to the words that followed.

What does it mean to be not just a farmer? You didn't realize that you had memories of your previous life. Then how the hell did they find out? A familiar but awesome fantasy, the world and Reurus are confused.

"But once you accept this town, everyone is equal. It doesn't matter whether you were born or raised. Nothing is more important than being a member of this abandoned city of Laval."

"I was just a peasant... and I was so embarrassed that I was born at the bottom."

I wonder what they mistook me for. With such doubt, Dominic pointed out that it was a "sole."

"It's the way you talk, but a little standing around with the way you eat. It's not all from the peasants I know."

"Yes, but if I were a peasant, I'd be suspicious."

On the basis of Dominic's disclosure, Natalia nodded in agreement. As a realuse, Dominique, as a benefactor, was not rude. In addition to his social experience in the previous life, he used honorific words from his experience in the village of Shena, which could have been killed if he uttered bad words, but it seems that Sole got caught.

"As far as the way you speak and your attitude towards Dominique is concerned, merchants or craftsmen who are accustomed to having more superiors than themselves... the line between soldiers and nobles seems thin. And you'll see a trick that doesn't look like you're old enough. That's it, Dominique. I'll believe this kid even if he's your age."

(What's this guy scared of?)

Superior - Trader or craftsman accustomed to having a boss. It is true considering that Reurus' predecessor was a salaried man.

In addition, the age of Reurus and Dominic is similar, including the previous life. There will be a few years difference, to be exact, but it is not wrong when viewed in parentheses around forty years old.

It would be satisfactory if this allegation were made by magic. Reurus knows very little about the magic used in this world, and it is no wonder that there is magic that recognizes people's identity.

But it would be too frightening if it had been derived from Natalia's observation eyes. How many people's eyes can such a trick be possible, such as discerning the “real age” not just the appearance, but just the making?

(If there was someone like this in HR... instead of being able to use it, I would never have hired a new person to retire without even going to work for the first time...)

In front of Natalia's bright eyes, bitter memories of the previous life are revived to escape reality unexpectedly.

There was a new hire who did not come to work and retired when he thought a new hire would come in at the end of the new year. "We've hired a good rookie this year," revealed the breathtaking HR saving hole, but from the revulsion, no rookie can use it equally.

What you learned at school is useless unless you learn it professionally over a long period of time. The technology that the company needs to hone after joining the company is only the lowest line of "prior knowledge”, such as what you can learn at school.

It would have been better if you had adopted a graduate of a famous university, had excellent results in the entrance exam, etc., than if you had judged only on the surface, you would have adopted a patient and serious new recruit.

It was very difficult to discern all personalities in a short interview time, and I couldn't help but notice the results of the school of origin and the entrance exam, but as a person who was on the scene, I wanted a newcomer with a decent personality rather than ability. It took nearly three years for the new hire to become useful, and Reurus was happy to teach him a job if he had a decent personality.

(If we had both abilities and personality, we wouldn't have come to our company... even if our personality was decent, our HR department would not have been picked up because it was a saving hole.)

In less than ten years, it was a realuse that lived only for socialists who could not be said to have lived for a long time, but in the end, there were no newcomers who seemed to have come into contact with their subordinates - and I shook my head when I thought so far that it was not a case of escaping reality.

It is not modern society that Reurus lives now. It's a fantastic world of magic and monsters. I'd like you to give me a break for being so familiar and so painful.

"So, boy, what's the answer?

Natalia talks to me about how she felt about the silent Reurus. Instead of asking, I could only feel the nuance of knowing if I knew.

"I'm not just a peasant... well, that's right."

Reurus smiles bitterly as he marvels at Natalia, who discerns everything in just a few minutes.

"Some kind of spy sucks. If you're going to say so, let's hear it."

"... a spy?

For a moment I couldn't understand Natalia's words, which meant she thought she was some kind of spy. Reurus rounds his eyes, but Natalia is not joking.

Spies may come from other countries, towns, or places like Laval Abandoned City to search for information. Reurus decides it's dangerous to lie down and prays that he doesn't roll in the wrong direction.

"I'm not a peasant... I was treated as a slave in the village, and I was sold as a slave outside the village. I was attacked by a monster on my way to the mine, so I ran into that gap...."

"Slave? No, wait... the village of Shena was southwest of Laval."

Something caught up in the word slave, Dominic seeped a little ruggedness into his expression. Then he turned to Natalia.

"Natalia, I think Nicolas and I were talking about something yesterday."

"You found carriage wreckage and blood on a trail that's not so much as a street...? It certainly fits."

Apparently Dominic and Natalia knew the carriage had been attacked. From the carriage wreckage and the blood, it seems he was right to escape at that time. The sooner the lion's monster caught my eye, the sooner the whole carriage would have been crushed.

"So, Reurus, what kind of monster attacked the carriage?

"It was a big monster. La... no, it was the size of a dog, two necks, and then more tails."

I don't know if there is a lion-lion in this world, but I take a dog I've seen before as an analogy. I didn't know the unit of size, so I gestured to express the size of the lion's monster.

"With horns on my head and black stones on my hands and feet...."

As soon as I explained, Dominic and Natalia's gaze became sharp.

"Kimira... it's a mess."

"If it's true, it's hard just to prove it...."

Apparently the lion's monster's name was Kimira - but Reurus revealed doubts in his heart alone.

(Chimera? Like I've ever heard of... chimera?

It was a name I remember hearing in my previous life. I'm not sure if it's a Greek myth or another, but I think it was described as a fantasy creature. It shouldn't have been unusual to appear in games, cartoons, etc. - and maybe Reurus murmured with confidence.

No matter how different the world is, there are creatures with similar names.

"Thank you for your valuable information. But, kid, you didn't answer that question, did you?

It was a Reurus that tried to flush with the influence of the lion's monster on tone and manners, but it didn't work. Instead, it will be difficult to deceive you if you are in a position to be sold as a slave, but you can be polite and use respectful words.

"I've lived in the village of Shenna watching the look of the greatest person up there... I just desperately learned not to make this tone and attitude difficult."

But I couldn't say more to Reurus. I used to be a salesman in my previous life, but I didn't think it would make sense. I don't know if there is a concept of reincarnation in this world, but there was also a danger of being burned as soon as I explained how to hunt witches.

"... well, that's fine. I don't think it's a convenient background for me to become a resident of this town."

It was Natalia who stared at Reurus, but she retreated without further pursuit than she thought. Reurus was more confused at the speed of the cut.

"I don't suppose it's some sort of royalty."

"... but if I did, wouldn't I be starving so much?"

As for Reurus, I wanted to be born to nobility rather than to be reborn in this environment. At least I would not have starved more than I am now, and would not have spent fifteen years in a worn house like a livestock hut.

"So, kid, I'm going to register you as an Adventurer in this abandoned city of Laval, but is there a problem?

"Instead, it doesn't matter that there is no explanation...."

When I finally got back to talking, I was going to skip the whole process and be treated like an 'adventurer'. Natalia leans her neck strangely, even though it was a revulsion that makes her feel tired.

"I heard that Dominic didn't explain anything... do you really not know?

"If I just ask you your name, why don't you go somewhere and have an adventure?

Actually, I don't know. Is there a dungeon or something? Or are you going on a journey to discover unknown secrets?

If that were the case, Reus would murmur in his heart as his child's heart tickled, thinking it was dead. I have never seen machines in the past 15 years, so I would definitely refuse to go on a wooden ship and look for the New World.

"Adventurers are nicknamed, but they're like vigilantes."

"... yes?

"Killing monsters, patrolling around the abandoned city of Laval, keeping the whole town safe... If you accept a request from the residents, you will do miscellaneous things, so you can say“ anything ”. Tony, the gatekeeper you met, is also a part of The Adventurer. Everyone in the back."

Looking back, I was told that if I was watching how things were going, some people would show me their things with a smile in their mouth. They also seem to be "adventurers," but the Reurus still understood what they called vigilantes.

"With Dominic and Tony's recommendation, you can be accepted as a resident of this town... but only as a resident. And then you have to live on your own."

"You mean from eating the unemployed....."

"Oh, that's a good word. Someone's buying it?

Natalia murmured with a slight impression. Reurus will not answer and will organize the information to date.

(Treated as a family member thanks to a "recommendation”. But I have to work to eat. So when I registered as an "adventurer" doing various tasks such as killing monsters....)

Reurus, which lacks expertise, has difficulty getting other jobs. I am good at simple manual labor, but do you have employment in the first place?

"Agricultural and manual labor....."

"You don't have much manpower. Retired 'adventurers' will suffice, as will residents who are unsuitable for monster extermination and vandalism. I recommend The Adventurer, as long as I have a track record of fighting monsters."

It would be too late to tell Natalia that she would be able to calculate further with a glossy smile. In the first place, it is too suspicious to say that we can calculate after being suspected of being a spy. It was like asking me to be suspicious because I could calculate even though I couldn't read the letters.

It's really useless, my last life!

The environment is bad. It is bad that the computer does not exist. Natalia laughs deeply at how she feels about telling herself Reurus.

"Boy, you don't have any money, do you? When you become an Adventurer, you'll get a lot of privileges.

"... for example?

When I heard the favor, Reurus's eyebrows were twitching.

"Waiver of water taxes, tax relief on monster carcasses and acquisitions obtained outside the town. Normally, you get up to 50 percent, and you get up to 30 percent."

"I'll do it. Become an Adventurer."

Listening to the offer, Reurus accepts the taste. After all, he almost died without drinking water. Exemption from water taxes is sufficient.

"Even if you say it's free, it's not unlimited.

"Of course."

I would like to take a bath if possible, but I can't easily light the bath considering firewood to boil the water. In the first place, Reurus didn't even know if bathing was customary in this world.

When I was in Chenna Village, I was wiping my body with a worn cloth in water, but as a former Japanese, I definitely wanted to take a bath. Reurus thought about asking Dominic later, and Natalia took out something like a feather pen and something like parchment.

"His name is Leurus, and he is from the village of Shena, a former farmer, and a farmer. How old are you? Have you ever had any special training?

"I'm fifteen. The monster fought for the first time yesterday. I've never fought anyone. Instead of special training, the villagers beat me up when I tried something other than agriculture, so I didn't do anything."

Answering the question, Natalia slips the quill in a familiar way. I don't know what it is, but I think it records what Reurus answered.

"For the record, you haven't trained magic or measured magic, have you?

"I've hardly ever seen magic... how do you measure magic?

I know that there are some elements that are a little embarrassing to talk about, such as being stimulated by a child's heart called magic. Soldiers in the village were flying a sphere of fire to attack monsters, but only to the extent that they thought it would be convenient to beat the winter cold before being surprised.

If it exists as a systematic technique, will I be able to use it if I train? I thought so, but there are few people who can use magic in Shenna Village, and if I wanted to hear about magic, the top of the village would have flown immediately.

I couldn't find out whether there was magic or not, and I could say that I was an amateur at all when it came to magic. When Natalia smiled a little in response to such a revulsion, she stood up and disappeared into the back of the building. And when she came back in a few minutes, she put something wrapped in cloth on her desk.

"... what's that?

"It's a magic gauge. It's made by processing an ore called" Magic Metal Stone "... well, it's not something that the boy cares about."

(That's the name as it is....)

A revulsion that does not speak, but lingers in your heart. When Natalia unwrapped the Magic Measuring Instrument, there was a seat for the first time in the world.

A cylindrical transparent stone is embedded in a rectangular foundation made of metal, and a scale is engraved on the surface of the stone. From a closer look, the base of the metal is also engraved with fine letters, which seems to have some meaning.

"You can touch either hand."

As encouraged by Natalia, Reurus puts his right hand on the Magic Measuring Device. But there was no reaction, and Natalia, staring at the clear stone, ran the pen on the paper again.

"No magic..."

"Eh, now you know?

Compared to the thermometer, it will take a little longer to measure. Natalia decided that Reus had no magic in less than three seconds, but the voice returned with a smile.

"Oh, it's more unusual for someone with magic. I wonder if there's one in 200 people in a region with a lot of wizards... because it's so unusual."

It was Natalia who talked to me to tell me, but as a revulsion, I felt like I had a shoulder watermark. I didn't think that magic could be used so conveniently, but there was a feeling that it would be a pity if they told me that there was no magic.

"... this device is not broken, is it?

Just to make sure, Natalia turned to Dominic meaningfully. Dominic reached out to the Magic Measuring Machine without saying that he had learned. Then a change occurs in the stone that was clear until then, and the light begins to shine indigo from the edge.

Normal.

Is that so?

Reurus dropped his shoulders slightly to Dominic, who demonstrated the use of the Magic Measuring Instrument in front of him. It wasn't a malfunction, but it proved that there was no magic of Reurus.

It's something I didn't have in my previous life. Even if there is no magic in the body now, nothing will change. It is a realuse that we think positively that it was neither negative nor positive.

(It's a shame... it's a shame... but it's something that never happened before. Yeah, I can't help it... but it's a shame.)

Still, I had a longing for magic in my heart - a desire for convenience that burns everywhere. If you have meat, you can bake it on the spot, and you don't know how much heat it produces, but you may also be able to boil the bath.

I don't know what else magic can do, but it won't bother me. Given the rarity, there seemed to be many ways to help.

"Yes, Dominique, can you use magic!?

It was a realuse to think about the usefulness of magic, but now Dominic is surprised to know that he has magic.

Judging by the appearance alone, a warrior or fighter would have been a better fit than a wizard. Dominic has a strong body that should be regarded as musculoskeletal, either because he is cooking or because he is fully trained.

Even though Reurus was not similar to the wizards in the TV and cartoons he had known in his previous life, he was still not convinced that he had magic and could use magic.

"Speaking of magic, it's no big deal... just a little bit."

Reurus shuts his mouth as he sees the nonsense of asking him not to listen any more. Instead, I decided to talk to Natalia.

"If you can't use magic, you can't become an Adventurer, or you'll be disadvantaged..."

"It doesn't matter if it's magic. I know that magic is more likely to be used, but I told you earlier that the number of magicians is small, right?

Natalia laughed bitterly as she wrapped the Magic Measuring Device in cloth again. I was worried because I didn't know the number of "Adventurers" as a Reurus, but it doesn't seem to have such a negative effect even if I can't use magic.

(At most, one in 200 people would be natural.....)

I don't know how many people live in the abandoned city of Laval, but even if there were 10,000, there would be around 50 wizards. Whether you see more or less of it will vary from person to person, but I was glad to hear that it would not be a negative assessment when acting as an 'adventurer'.

(Well, I don't know what the Adventurer would have done before the Wizard.)

Will you explain that area as well? With that in mind, Reurus continued his conversation with Natalia.
