A Chronicle of Life in a Different World

Episode 11: Adventurer Part 3

The tip of the Adventurers Association.

The small room, separated by a sturdy wooden door, was a storage for weapons and armor. In a room about six tatami mats wide, there is a narrow room with weapons and armor, and in a dimly lit room, Reurus quietly breathes into the bluntly glowing swarm of swords.

"Now, I don't know which one to choose....."

"We need to hear what Reurus wants."

Unlike the awkward revulsions, Nicolas and Sharon started looking indoors in a familiar way.

A metal sword mounted on a wooden frame, a spear placed in the corner of the room, and a stick with a slightly thicker baseball bat with bows and arrows.

The armor was also a leather armor worn by Nicolas, a coat worn by Sharon, other nails, legs, and even leather shoes.

Well, let's start with the shoes.

"If it's true, you'd better make it to the size of your feet... but I can't help it."

Elsewhere, Nicolas and Sharon start fishing on wooden shelves with shoes, featuring Reurus that has never been seen before in their lives.

"Shoes first? Not a weapon?

Weapon is more important than shoes if you want to defeat monsters. Nicolas laughs bitterly at Reurus who leans his neck from such thoughts and Sharon looks cold.

"Oh, hey, shoes are important. It's more important to me than weapons and armor."

"My brother is right. Reurus, can you walk barefoot in the woods?

That said, Reurus turned to the importance of shoes.

Though worn out, Reurus wore shoes made of leather, but what would have happened without them? Compared to the shoes I wore in my previous life, the comfort is a bit different, but it doesn't make a big difference in terms of protecting my feet.

"... I see, it does matter."

It is too dangerous to walk barefoot in the woods, even on soft soil and grass. If you step on a sharp stone and get injured in your foot, it may be more difficult to walk than fight monsters.

The shoes placed in the vault are not superior, but they are several steps better than those worn by Reurus. So when you pick a leather shoe that fits your foot, you can change it and see how you are.

"Hmm... it feels like someone else's shoes."

Compared to the shoes I used to wear, it was far more sturdy, but I felt uncomfortable. I think I'll get used to it after wearing it for a while, but it seems difficult until I get used to it. I don't know what kind of animal leather it is, but unlike sports shoes, it seems like it will take time to get used to my feet.

Next, weapons. Hey, Reurus, do you have a weapon you can handle?

"Weapon... huh, huh?

He is a unique partner who has been shaking the ground for over a decade. However, there was resistance to calling it a weapon - but Nicolas nodded seriously when she heard it.

"Hmm... maybe a weapon with a center of gravity at the tip will fit. The stick is short and the spear is too long and different. It takes too long to get used to a bow that doesn't need to be swinging, so this is a sword without difficulty."

Nicolas looks at the regular arrangement of weapons, and takes what she thinks and checks the weight and center of gravity. Reurus, who answered with half a joke, tried to open his mouth bewildered, but Sharon took control of it.

"I can leave it to my brother to sort the weapons. I'm a little weak, but I trust my weapon expert."

Hey, I can't hear you, Sharon.

While checking the condition of the weapon, Nicolas bites with just words. Sharon shrugged his shoulders at Nicolas's reaction and turned to a shelf lined with armor.

"Then I'll take a look at the armor. Fighting with a sword without magic would be avant-garde, and choosing a tough one would kill you. Let me ask you something. Do you want me to use a shield? I don't recommend it until you're used to the battle itself, not the weapons."

"Really?

"Avoid slashing the monster that comes at you with a sword or with a shield... because you need to make complex decisions instantly according to your surroundings. If you're not used to fighting, you should narrow down your options."

Sharon explains indifferently without saying anything to Reurus. Having heard that, Reurus nodded convincingly that it would be better to try to avoid than to have a means of defense.

Even if you have a shield in the first place, there is no guarantee that you will be able to catch the monster's attack, and if you are worried about attack, defense, or evasion, it would be easier to choose evasion from the beginning.

"Or you can use your armor to fight a long-lasting battle, but it doesn't make sense without other allies."

"Senpai and I are together...."

Leaving the attack to Nicolas and Sharon is an “ant” choice, Lewes thinks. Until you get used to fighting monsters, why don't you pick equipment that won't hurt you and let them attack you?

"Me and your brother have taken on your amulet, but it's just to help. As an Adventurer, I'll teach you to hunt monsters at least, but no more. And you're too immature to work with us."

Apparently, it's just like a rookie training. Indeed, it would be reckless to suddenly give a new hire a job that veterans handle. It seems like a stance of teaching, but growing on your own.

"It's true that I'm the only one who pulls my legs... have you been an Adventurer for a long time?

I don't know how much skill Nicolas and Sharon have, but rather than running away as' adventurers', they should have some skill and experience than leaving it to the care of a Reurus who hasn't even started yet.

Reurus thinks that he will not turn around people who are almost the same as the new recruits, but he asks for confirmation for the time being.

"Five years. In this town's Adventurer, is that an old stock?

"My brother is six and a half years old. Everything is too rough... I've been here four years. I agree with the fact that I have been active in this town's Adventurers for quite some time."

Apparently Nicolas answered nicely, and Sharon's painful expression immediately corrected. However, when he heard Sharon's reply, Reurus groaned in his heart, careful not to show his expression.

(In four and six and a half years old stocks... is that so dangerous? Or do you quit working as an adventurer to some extent? I hope it's the latter....)

It is mysterious how many "adventurers" there are in the abandoned city of Laval, but black companies also seem to have a pale turnover rate. It would be nice if the “reason to quit” were moderate, but it has a dangerous smell.

"Heh, heh, isn't that amazing...? I feel that the recognition card is different from mine....."

It was a rhythmic revulsion, but Nicolas and Sharon looked at the recognition card hanging from their necks and wondered. It is the same in that it is made of metal plates, but Nicolas's recognition cards are just engraving letters.

In the case of Reurus, it is written in letters that emit light, and the two recognition cards can be said to be plain.

"Me and my brother are both intermediate. It's not like you at the lower end."

Ha, will the recognition card change when you reach the intermediate level?

Sharon answered Reurus's question. I am convinced that the recognition card will change depending on the rank. However, I was not sure whether Nicolas, who identified themselves as an ancient stock among the "adventurers" in the abandoned city of Laval, was intermediate or high.

"Ugh, is this what this is about?

While the conversation was going on, the weapon and armor were sorted, and Reurus wore the equipment with the help of Nicolas and Sharon.

Wear leather armor over the original garment and fasten with fasteners, and equip your hands and feet with lightweight but fairly sturdy leather nails and toenails.

"How are you feeling?

"... what do you mean, subtle?

The same is true of the leather shoes I wore earlier, but it feels very uncomfortable when I wear something I don't normally use. Reurus was not fleshy, so the leather armor was tightly tightened, and it was a little hard to breathe.

The leather armor is shaped to cover the upper body and waist, but it is lighter than Reurus thought because there is no extra decoration. It will be less than five kilometers, including nails and toenails.

In the previous life, it might be light because it is a thin leather armor called soft leather armor, but since the chest and other parts are reinforced with multiple pieces of leather, it seems like some defense could be expected.

Reurus jumps lightly on the spot, but it doesn't bother me except for the discomfort of tightening my body. The rest seemed to be able to fight monsters as long as they actually moved around and got used to it.

"And, look, you're the one who's looking for him."

"Is it a sword... ahh!?

Nicolas was given a sword in a sheath. It was a metal sword that felt slippery and heavy when I grabbed it, and I accidentally slipped my hand and dropped it on the floor because of its weight.

If you remove it from the sheath, it weighs about one to two kilometers. Whether the blade span reaches 70cm or not. The pattern is not so long and the width of the sword increases as it approaches the cutting edge.

(What is this... broadsword? Or a saber?)

In light of the knowledge of previous generations, is it close to the sabre used by pirates? However, there is no Tsubaki that protects the fist called Goken, and a wide sword like Broadsword stands out.

There was little warping, but it was a single blade and it felt like the weight was near the tip. The sword is carved with a groove, but Reurus does not know what it does.

(I saw something like this in a movie or a cartoon... like that?

I don't know about hate and the type of sword I have, but if it can be used as a weapon, it would be fine. The handle was wrapped around a leather string to prevent slipping, and the handle became thicker so that it did not come off when shaking.

Looking at it with both hands, I feel that the center of gravity of the sword is as close as I ordered -. As a realuse that had never held a real sword, including in my previous life, I didn't even know whether it was the right way to hold or hold a sword.

(There was Kendo in the school class, but it's different from the bamboo sword....)

A bamboo sword would be a good place if it were touched in a peaceful Japan. In my previous life, I never bought a wooden knife from a souvenir shop, nor had I had the opportunity to imitate a knife or take it seriously. I have waved countless times in this world, but I have never waved it as a weapon.

"What are you up to? Reurus, did you have a knife like that?

It was a realuse holding a sword close to the Tsubaki like a bamboo knife with his right hand, along his left hand on the handle, but Nicolas looked strange.

"I thought it might be easy to hold... no?

"I'm not saying it's bad for both hands, but he uses one hand."

So what are you gonna do with your free hands?

As Nicolas said, I tried to hold the sword with just my right hand, but it felt heavier than when I held it in both hands. If I just shake it lightly, I'm sure I'll let it go with all my strength.

"Throw stones or use daggers to increase the amount of trouble. Is the stone good? They roll around as much as they want, and they don't cost much."

That's how Nicola tapped the leather bag on her waist. Looks like Reurus had an idea, and there's a stone inside.

Was stone throwing used during the Sengoku Period? It would be convenient to attack from a distance.)

Speaking of the Sengoku period, the sword first came to mind, but it was used in the actual battle - it was flying tools such as bows and arrows and throwing stones that killed the enemy. I then hear that a weapon that can strike the opponent from a long distance, such as a spear, was used, and the sword was only used when the opponent's neck was removed.

"It's a good thing it doesn't cost money... but I think it's better if it's a spear or something.

The sword held by Reurus is clearly for melee combat, and the weight and ease of handling must be close to the enemy. Nicola shook her neck to the side, thinking that the spear would be better hit from afar.

"It's an advantage to be able to attack from a distance, but most monsters move fast. If we don't have the technology and speed to handle it, we'll just get into our pockets. Well, at that point, I said," Hey, the stone I threw is hard to hit. "

"When I train, the spear seems stronger... but I don't have time or money, and I can't help it."

The current Reurus is empty, and even with a spear, there is no time to master it. It would be faster to starve than to get used to spears. In that case, the sword is better.

(It doesn't change in that I'm not used to it....)

I don't know how to handle swords, just by comparison. From the beginning, it could only be divided into melee fights, but now it looks like it would be hit with a chunk of metal rather than slashing with a sword.

(Er, blade muscle? I see. If I didn't shake it properly, I couldn't cut it at all....)

Even the Western sword is abundant with sharp sharpness, but I don't think it can be cut properly even if the realuse is shaken like an amateur. Still, if I felt comfortable wearing armor and holding a weapon, I would be able to fight monsters.

"My brother is right. You must get used to fighting monsters first. [M] I think it's better to choose a sword for that."

"... for what reason?

"We'll be together soon, so fight to overcome your fear of monsters."

Instead of choosing a safe place or method, they want to put themselves at risk and learn how to fight monsters. It was a revulsion that dropped his shoulders on the words of Spartan Sharon more than I thought, but I can't escape any longer than I've become an Adventurer.

In the first place, there's nowhere to run. Running away from the abandoned city of Laval is only the difference between starving to death or being killed by a monster. In that case, it could be said that living as an "adventurer" still has an eye for survival.

(Retreat to hell, go to hell... it won't stay that way.)

It's the second time in my life at the corner, but it seems that I can only walk on dangerous paths no matter how I scratch my feet. It seems difficult to live freely because of the sound of the word 'adventurer'.

Still, it is better than living as a peasant in the village of Shena, and it will be superior to anything else. There is no cheap profession, and the "adventurers" may not earn enough to eat properly, but even if they are not exposed to unreasonable violence, it is a relief.

Use a thin leather sword band to secure the sword to your waist and tap the pattern. The weight was also considered a consideration for the new freedom, and it seemed strange and light.

"... are you ready?"

"Dominic, did you wait for me?

It was a realuse that came out of the armory, but Dominic immediately called out a surprise. Apparently he waited all the time to choose his gear, and Dominic looked up and down at Reurus as he braced his arms.

"Well... isn't it bad?"

"Of course you are, old man. I chose this one anyway!

"For now, I've put it together in a basic way. And I'm going to change it as I look at the aptitude of Reurus."

Sharon calmly tells Nicolas laughing with her thumb up. I was worried about what kind of rating would come back as a Reurus, but it didn't seem to be the wrong gear to become an Adventurer.

I looked around, but there were no objections from other "adventurers" who were inside the "Adventurers' Association". Rather, there were many who looked down as if they had seen something smiling or nostalgic.

They must have worn similar gear when they ran away as' adventurers'. Reurus thought so, but for the first time, he dropped his head to Dominic.

"Whatever... Thank you, Dominique. I don't know if I can fight monsters, and I don't think I can do anything with my gear, but I think I can live as an Adventurer."

I wish I could get a more modest and decent job, but that would be luxury. There is too little hope that there will be a place for former peasants and slave-soldiers to embrace Reus outside of the abandoned city of Laval.

Even if it existed, I don't think it would have arrived before starving to death. Being an Adventurer is a sort of fate.

It was a revulsion to think like that, but Dominic stared at me and leaned his neck.

"Something weird?

Although it is made of leather, it is the first time I have hardened myself with armor and lowered my sword, including in my previous life. So I ask if there is anything that bothers me, but Dominic doesn't answer anything.

"... you don't have to be humble with me."

Still, I said such a thing when I left time behind. Reurus, who received Dominic's words, blinked his eyes, but he wondered if the words of respect and manners were bad.

"Er... well, can I call you Ooi-san?

How about you call Dominic 'Oh-san' after Nicolas? It's a reassuring realuse, but I don't intend to treat Dominic lightly, the savior of my life. The tone of tone was cautioned by Natalia, so I was worried about the arrangement around it for a while.

"Call me whatever you want. I'm going back to the store."

Was it right or wrong to call him "Ooi-san"? Dominic turned his back and started walking to the Adventurers' Union door after losing sight of Reurus. Then open the door - and look over your shoulders.

"Nicolas and Sharon will be fine for now. When you're done with your work, come and eat."

That's why it's time to walk away from the Adventurers' Union, Dominique. Reurus dropped Dominic's back off, but thought he could eat at Dominic's restaurant would make him more motivated to work.

Without consciousness, he crawled his hand on the handle of the sword and thought of the future.

(I don't know how much I earn, but I hope I earn enough not to starve to death)

Even if you order food at Dominic's restaurant, you naturally need a price. It was a realuse determined to earn the price, but Nicola smiled and slapped her shoulder as she listened to the conversation with Dominic.

"Oh, my God, I'm telling you, let's go."

"I'm going... where?

Will you teach me how to use the sword? Or will you guide me to Laval Waste City first? Nicola laughs and answers to Reurus, who answers the question while thinking about it.

"Hey, have you forgotten? It's a demon hunt."

"Ho, really go...."

Disappointed that he wanted to remain forgotten, Reurus dropped his shoulders.
