A Chronicle of Life in a Different World

Episode 66: Travel Part 4

The third night of your journey through the abandoned city of Laval.

The journey went astonishingly well with Reus himself.

Strongly speaking, Eliza's health was low, and Zilba was feared every time she met the regular army guarding the streets.

Intercept the regular army armed on the street three times. Each time they knew Gilba, they treated her in a way they wouldn't put her down. Gilba behaves like nothing, but in fact, she's pretty famous.

Reus, who entered the "station" by the street, threw firewood into an instant stone jar that the previous user would have left behind. It's not cold because of the summer, but I've prepared it as a light source because I can barely see it when the sun goes down.

Half the moon floats in the night sky, not completely closed. Still, there is a big difference between having lights and not having them.

He turned his gaze outside the station, except for occasionally throwing firewood into the fire. Because the streets are barely sheltered and you can see the fire burning from afar.

Eliza is tired from walking through, and if she cares, she will fall asleep. He repeated the action of shaking his head with his sleepy eyes and occasionally shook his head big and raised his face in a hurry.

Vampires seem strong at night, but Eliza, a bloodsucking species, sleeps at night or day if she gets tired like a normal child.

"Eliza, if you're sleepy, can I sleep?

"... nnh... I can't sleep..."

That said, it seems that her consciousness is already half asleep, and when Reurus gently presses her shoulders, she rolls to the ground and starts to breathe. When he smiled bitterly at Eliza's appearance, Reurus shrugged his voice and then shouted to Gilba.

"Gilba-san really has a big face...."

"I've been traveling all over Mataroi since I was young, but while I was defeating monsters and capturing bandits in the streets, it became natural... no, as long as I was ashamed of the fact that my younger“ Yama-chan ”was still known."

Gilba laughs laughingly at that, but as far as I've heard, she's still flying around at the request of a neighboring church. Not only when I was young, but I'm sure I'm doing well now.

(I've never actually seen them fight, but it seems that not only the Gregorians I escaped, but also the other squads took care of themselves....)

From the usual standing behavior, there is a uninhabited atmosphere. If I had been “cleaning” every time I went through the streets for many years, I thought it would be natural to become famous after deducting being a spiritual.

"Heh... did you go all over Mataroi? Outside Mataroi?

"I've been abroad a few times. But it wasn't that interesting. After all, I just think the country where I was born and raised was the best."

That's a Reurus who feels tired and chats about sleepiness awakening, but Gilba doesn't look tired and looks fine.

Until I get here, I take turns and take a nap every night. However, I could not sleep with peace of mind because I needed to get up immediately outdoors and when something happened.

Eliza doesn't have enough Health and can't use Enhancements, so she doesn't take part in the sentry at night. Reurus and Gilba will take turns sleeping and remain vigilant.

Because Eliza couldn't attend her nap shift, she was able to change her nap shift in three shifts instead of two if she had one more companion.

But that's what we're talking about now, and Reurus starts eating dried meat as a drowsiness awakening. I don't know what the meat was, but it was in the food Natalia gave me.

Do you eat Gilba too?

"Thank you."

Giving dried meat to Zilva sitting on her back, Zilva lowers her head and receives it. And he rode in the same way as Reurus, and looked up at the night sky, which was covered with clouds.

"It will be fine tomorrow with this sky pattern. If there is nothing in particular, we will arrive in Madalo by noon."

"Have you come this far yet... in a short time?"

I didn't encounter any monsters or bandits, so I just walked. I learned a lot from Zimbabwe on my journey, but if I'd been walking all the time, I might have arrived by today.

"I didn't even encounter monsters. Thank you for Eliza's help. It's a valuable force for those who travel, such as avoiding monsters."

"As for me who wants to eat monsters, I'm not sure if I'll be honest with you."

Not only does it fill my stomach, but it also means storing enough magic to turn it into "caloric release." Still, I can't complain if I think I can travel safely.

"But you don't know if it will lead to monsters above intermediate level. I don't encounter many of them, but are there few monsters above intermediate level?

Kimira is the only monster above the intermediate level Reurus has ever encountered. Otherwise, it was a strong but lower-level monster, and perhaps it was rare for monsters classified as intermediate or higher.

"It's quite a few compared to low-level monsters. I see... even an intermediate monster might encounter one while encountering a hundred junior monsters?

"There aren't many... advanced monsters?

"Most of the advanced monsters have territory, and we must get close to it before we encounter them. And when you're advanced, you're commensurately intelligent, and sometimes you suddenly talk without attacking."

I wonder if it's based on Zilba's experience.

For example, in the game played in the previous life, Reurus thought that almost 100% of the monsters that are counted on the field are junior monsters, and there is a 1% or less chance that intermediate monsters will attack.

(But it's scary to think of a 1% chance of encountering a Kimilla Class monster... wouldn't an advanced monster encounter without approaching a place “like that”?)

Of course, there will be exceptions to everything. In the first place, it was Kimira, a middle-ranking monster, who was sold out of Shena Village as a slave and first encountered him. I can only say that it depends on the probability.

"For the record, there aren't any advanced monster territories around here, right? If I step in without knowing it, I'm going to die...."

I'll check it out just in case. In response to Reurus, who asked with such a light feeling, Gilba looked back with a loud voice and surprised.

"... don't you know?

What?

Reurus looks back too unexpectedly. I thought it might be an act to surprise me, but Gilba's expression was extremely serious.

"This country... no, I thought I'd heard of it once if I lived on this continent."

"Hey, what's going on? Just pretend. I'm scared. You're kidding... right?

Is there something going on? Gilba began to slip her fingers on the ground against a Reurus that swallowed her saliva.

"Pretty rough, but think of this as the continent of Cardiva."

That said, Zilba draws a picture that looks like the middle between the autumn leaves and the square. If you write more lines on the map, they point to each other.

"This is Mataroi, this is Berlid, this is Rapali, and this is Polasha and Haristo."

Some were the names of countries I had heard of. So when Reurus nods, Gilba pokes her finger in the middle of the map.

"And here... almost in the middle of the Caldivian continent, there is a famous advanced monster here."

"... if this map isn't wrong, it looks like the border between Mataroi, Berlido and Rapali."

With the exception of the south-western part of the Caldeba continent, the first three countries seem to occupy the remaining orientation in triplicate. La Paris was the largest, nearly a third the size of the continent of Caldeva.

Mataroi is second at about 80% of the size of Rapali, and Berlido is third at about half the size of Rapali.

And the three countries - especially Rapali and Mataroi - were divided along the border near the center of the continent that Zilba showed. Berlid also appears to have borders, but this percentage is very small compared to the other two countries.

"Yeah, I'm not mistaken. Each of these three countries borders the volcano Veos here…"

"Volcano Veos....."

It was the first place I heard of. At the same time, it was a place name that I had a bad feeling about.

(Volcanoes... advanced monsters... strong enough to “be immobile” when the big three countries border?

So far, there's something behind Reurus' brain. It was about an advanced monster that Esther, a spiritual teacher, told me about.

"From the flow of the story... you're here, aren't you?

Yes, you are.

- Fire Dragon.

The words were small enough to be spoiled with nature.

Also known as Class Dragon, Fire Dragon is a monster that is definitely classified as advanced. The strength could be imagined by the literal alone, and the revus was trembling naturally.

"... that? Wait a minute... where was Madalo?

And Reurus' thoughts come up with "and danger.” When asked to trust Zilba, Zilba pointed silently to the map she had drawn on the ground.

Madalo exists just south of Mataroi, northeast of the Caldeba continent, from the abandoned city of Laval to the "south-east”.

― ― The location Zilba indicated with her fingers was close to the Veos volcano.

(Ugh... I don't think I can go back to Laval Waste City right now... I've got a bad feeling about this anymore...)

"Gyaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!?

"Whoa!?

It was a Reurus who inadvertently abandoned his request and started thinking about going back to the abandoned city of Laval, but he heard a scream that ripped his mind apart and jumped on the spot.

The screams I heard came from afar, but the loudness and sorrow of the voice seemed like a demon.

"I'm surprised... it doesn't sound like a bandit raid."

"There may have been another traveler who was attacked by a bandit... but I think it's about 200 melts away from the way the screams sound."

"Do you even know that... hmm?

It was a realuse that I thought I would know how to get to the distance, but there was something that caught my eye.

"Ah... maybe there's a monster. I don't know the details because of the distance, but I feel the magic."

I feel weak because of the distance, but if Gilba's guess is correct, I feel magical even if it's 200 meters away. It's not as bad as Kimira, but at least it's not a weak monster.

Reurus wondered if he should wake up Eliza, but whether he went to see how he was doing or stayed there, he needed to be prepared to act immediately.

"Intermediate monster from the side we were talking about? Eliza, wake up."

"Ahn... uu... I can't sleep... I'm not sleeping..."

When Reurus shakes her shoulders lightly, Eliza wakes up immediately to whether she was asleep or not. It was slightly less than a tongue, but I don't think she was completely asleep at all, as she said.

"It could be an enemy. Wake up."

"... enemies!? Where are you!?

When she called again, Eliza looked around in a hurry to see if her drowsiness had blown up.

Gahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Then the roar of the beast rose from afar. When he heard that, Reurus turned his eyes to Gilba.

"I knew it was a monster... it's out of Eliza's reach, but you weren't here because you were wary."

"And I don't know if it's a traveler or a bandit, but the monster is attacking someone who was far away..."

It may be left as it is, but even if it is close to 200 meters away, it can feel the magic. It will be necessary to check the condition.

"I'm ahead. Reurus, please follow Eliza while protecting her."

Copy that.

Gilba rushes out, briefly announcing her policy. Then he slightly jumped over the fence and empty moat of "Station" and headed towards the direction where he heard screams and monster roars.

Reurus hugs Eliza and runs after Zilba. Then he jumped over the one-meter wooden fence and landed in an empty moat, running in a direction where he felt the magic as he wrapped his tongue around Jilba's physical abilities.

(What kind of monster is there...)

With that in mind, he jumped off the street into the woods - and took a breath into what seemed like a distant “figure.”

"... what is that?"

--There was a huge four-armed bear.
