A Chronicle of Life in a Different World
Episode 81: Altar Part 2
It was a Reurus that discovered a hot spring and something sweet, but the first thing I did was report it to Gilba.
If this "altar" was built by spirituals, I thought it would be best to ask Jilba, a spiritual. I said I only read it in the literature, but I should be able to make a much better decision than Reurus, who has no information.
Nonetheless, Zilba has travelled all over Mataroi, but has also stepped foot in other countries. It was possible that he knew something about the hot springs.
Zilba was interrupted in prayer to the Spirit Statue of Fire by Reurus, who hurried to call. However, he did not show a disgusting face, but rather, when he heard that there was "a lot of hot water", he tightened his expression and rushed to a room with a hot spring.
"Whoa... hmm, this is..."
Zilba stares into a milky white hot spring and roars. Whether the hot spring is still spraying itself, the stone bathtub is overflowing with water, passing through the ditches dug on the floor to the holes in the corner of the room.
I didn't notice the smell because of the tension that stepped into the firedragon's territory, but the overflowing hot spring water seemed to have flowed outside the Altar.
It may have been at least a few hundred years since it was no longer used, but I think I built the bathroom fairly aggressively while still preserving the prototype.
"What do you think?
"I tried to get it in the water, but it's not just a little hot, it'll work. It must have been a bathing facility for the people who used to live on this altar."
That's how Jilba wipes her hands out of the hot spring with a cloth. Reurus echoes joy in his heart in response.
This is the first bath in the world!
As a former Japanese, taking a bath would be important.
To the best of Reurus' knowledge, baths filled with hot water are extremely precious and luxurious in this world. The bathhouse in Laval Waste City is only a sauna bath, a small room filled with steam where you sweat and then wash your body with water.
Still a luxurious category, the bathing fee is 30 yuan for three large copper coins per bath. In Japanese yen, it is close to 3,000 yen.
Otherwise, it was fine enough to wipe the body with a cloth soaked in water or to bathe in the river. The story may be different in fortified cities such as Laval and Madalo, but Reurus predicts that there will be no big difference from the abandoned city of Laval.
"I heard you found a chunk of water in a place like this, so I was ready... no, it was just hot water."
However, Gilba talks about the noise in other places with Reurus who is touched by the hot springs.
"Ready? Is there something in the hot spring...?
Even if Reurus doesn't know, perhaps people in this world will die if they get warm water. Though she thought such a foolish thing, Gilba frowned and looked reluctant.
"I was relieved that Mr. Reurus didn't feel the magic, but there could be a slime."
"Slime...?
Slime - it was a word that sounded familiar to me as a revus.
If you had ever played video games in Heisei Japan, you would have heard of them once. Especially in some national RPGs, the “face” of the game is contrary to its title.
(Looks like he was a chaotic and weak early experience earner... no, it depends on the game? Also, I heard that foreign slime is different.....)
I put my hand on my forehead to explore my memory, but I wonder if Zilba was strong enough to be prepared.
"'Eating the Land'... that's what they call it."
"... eh?
Isn't it a charming existence with a big mouth that is blue, round and partially horny? Zilba stares at the hot spring and continues talking when Reurus is slightly confused.
"Even among monsters, there is a big individual difference. If I were born... well, middle-intermediate. It's hard to defeat without Class Magic, but if you can use Class Magic, you'll be able to defeat it without struggle - if you were born."
If you were born, you could easily defeat an attribute magic. The slime statue in the realus begins to collapse in Zilba, emphasizing that.
"The slime eats its prey and grows its body. Once upon a time, some countries failed to crush the slime and perished... under the nickname" Country Taken "."
"... are you that strong?
"It's more troublesome than stronger. It jumps into its prey and takes it into its body, but at this point it won't help. It dissolves in the slime and is immediately nourished."
Jilba's tone is serious and there is no sign of joking.
"If you can destroy the 'nucleus' in your body, you can kill it, but with a semi-life weapon, the blade won't pass. The blade melts even if it is slightly cut in. Therefore, classic magic can be used to kill people from a distance... I hope you can use wind magic or lightning magic."
"... I said that the individual difference is large, but how long will it grow from intermediate to middle level?
As far as I can tell, it's a very annoying monster. Gilba laughs in trouble when Reurus asks for his safety rather than his interest.
"I've heard stories that I've grown to the top."
In response, Reurus felt the edge of his mouth hanging, even though it was not strange.
--It was a reply that had to laugh.
"You just said that the country has been destroyed... on the central continent of Paradia, southwest of the Caldeba continent where we live, near which there is a huge desert. According to one theory, there was a country destroyed by the slime...."
"The country was destroyed, the trees and the mountains were gone, and it became a desert?
Reurus thought it would be too much to talk about, but Gilba nodded silently.
"I've heard about it from my aunt... the Slime of" The Country Eaters ". Well, that was about the Central Paradian continent....."
Eliza nodded in affirmation of Gilba's story. Eliza's grandmother seems to have been a famous wizard, but she must have been familiar with such stories because she was dealing with a powerful monster.
(What the hell is a slime...)
That's the only way to think about it. I thought the knowledge of the previous life would be of little use, but if I had tried the slime without knowing this information, I would have been dead.
"However, the incidence seems to be very small. I've never seen the real thing before, as often as it seems to be discovered every ten years."
"... even though you're such a monster, did you think you might be here?
"Yeah... there were stories that slime can easily be born in places with strong magic. If it was an" altar "dedicated to the Spirit of Fire, I thought it might be possible...."
That said, it was a realuse that turned its eyes towards the hot spring, but I noticed that the mood that I wanted to enter earlier was disappearing.
I don't think so, but when I think that slime may be lurking in the milky water, the fear comes first.
"It was too rare and I forgot, but please be careful if there is a puddle in the" strange place if there is a puddle ”. In Mr. Reurus's case, you can feel the magic, so I don't think you'll notice...."
Reurus nodded silently to Zilba.
The night I found the Altar.
Reurus and the others had decided to spend the night in the Altar. The "Altar" is in the territory of the Fire Dragon, so don't worry too much about the monster raiding.
The "Altar" itself has not been destroyed, so the Fire Dragon will not attack - that is, the valves of Zilba.
"... after all, I can't resist the magic of the hot springs."
Hearing that it was safer than spending time in the woods, Reurus was determined to enter the hot springs.
At dusk, the Altar is dark, so the candles brought in by Gilba are placed on the lighting stand across the wall, and the lights are kept at their lowest limit.
Reurus went to the bathroom with one hand of his own Matsuaki and transferred the fire to the candles that Gilba gave him to get the lights. It seems to be a candle made from monster oil and fat, but it is enough light to illuminate the bathroom.
"So, what about Eliza?
Reurus, who had placed the candles on the lighthouse, shouted behind him. Then Eliza peeked out of the darkness.
"This hot spring? You sure you don't have a problem getting in with that?
"Nothing. It's a little hot, but it's perfect to get rid of the dirt."
Surrounded by walls, there is also a roof, and the hot springs are always gushing out and circulating, or the hot tub is not so dirty. However, since the walls had ventilation holes, they were not entirely private rooms.
(... that? But the smell of the hot spring or something wasn't toxic... ah, wouldn't it be a problem if it was a little poisonous?)
The smell is going to paralyze your nose, but Reurus is resistant to poison. There was no problem because she didn't die of the poison that killed her instantly in small quantities, and because there was also "enhancement" due to Eliza's magic.
Eliza is also resistant to poison due to her "contract" with Reurus, so there is no toxic gas effect.
"If something goes wrong, I'll go in..." It's my first bath since I was born. Whatever happens, I'll come in.... "
"Sometimes you show stubbornness in strange places... well, there you go again..."
Eliza murmurs her words a little. Reus didn't miss all the words, but he couldn't understand the final words because they didn't actually make a sound.
So, hurry up.
Reurus raises his big sword against the wall and removes his leather armor. As a precaution, just keep the dagger in the sheath and put it nearby, but when it's done, just take off your clothes.
"Don't be too hesitant!? Eh, heh, are you sure you want to go in...?
Eliza asked as she glanced at Reurus as she took off her clothes momentarily. Is that how surprising it is that "vegetables” appear along the way?
"That's why you're going in, right? What about Eliza? I can't help it, can I come in with you?
Originally, there was a possibility of overnight exposure in the woods this evening, so at the very least, I brought a cloth to wipe the sweat. There is no change of clothes, but there is no turning back in front of the hot spring.
When Reurus takes off his clothes quickly, he takes a bath by hand, then removes the dirt from his body with a cloth, checks the temperature, and then enters the hot spring.
The bathroom was quite large, and the hot tub was four meters wide. The depth is about 30 cm, but there is nothing to complain about if you are immersed in hot water as a reuse.
"Phew... good water."
It's a little hot, but it feels good again if you get used to it. After getting out of the hot spring, you will need to replenish the water, but now it was a revulsion that I wanted to enjoy the pleasure of the hot spring.
"Uu... uuuuuuu..."
Eliza roared at what she thought when she saw a leeward soaking in the hot water. Then he looked around and checked the darkness of the room and the milky white color of the hot spring, and began to undress.
Eliza was less equipped than Reurus, but it took much longer to get undressed than Reurus. Meanwhile, Reurus looked up at the ceiling with a loose face.
(Ah... the baths are good after all... if I can get back to Laval City safely, I'll set up a bath pot at home for a reward... but there's no place to put it if I don't renovate the house for that...)
Water is not free, and firewood for boiling water is not free. Still, it would be worth the money.
I just wanted to enrich the bath with the “Kome” that I had eaten at the restaurant in Madaro Waste City.
"Ahhh!? What the hell! My lord, don't put me in a bath like this!?
"If you get used to it... uh, it's good water..."
Unlike Reurus, Eliza, who suddenly tried to immerse herself in a hot tub, shouted in surprise.
It's summer now, and I think it feels extra hot. When Eliza is told to boil, she starts to boil herself with fear.
After taking a bath and getting used to it, Eliza slowly put her foot in the bathtub. And when you soak in the hot water to your shoulders, you exhale relieved.
"Hot... but it feels so good..."
"Am I right? If I get home safe, I'll build a bath with this reward...."
It was a realuse looking up at the ceiling with a loose face, but Eliza was closer than I expected to look down. I was ashamed of myself before I soaked in the water, but once I soaked it, it was dark in the bathroom and I lost my vigilance.
"Hmm... I see. I have to go home...."
"It's only been about ten days, but I feel like I've been away for a long time...."
It is also problematic that there was a big difference in the content of the request as compared to the original plan.
If left alone, a large number of people will die - which in itself would have been divisive, but the inability to pay the mortgage on the house is a big problem.
Of course, now that they have some friendship with the faces of the abandoned city of Madalo, it is bad to wake them up when they die. I can't just leave you behind to repay Zilba for saving her life.
"I'd like to go home and have Dominic's cooking...."
"Eat the salt soup. And then I'll eat everything for Tequito...."
Immerse yourself in the hot springs and interact with Eliza in an unusual way. Even though it was in the territory of the Fire Dragon, it was only at this time that a very calm time passed.
That night, Reurus had a dream.
--I had a dream that was as hot and burning as fire.
