A Chronicle of Life in a Different World

Episode 389: Collard's Request Part 3

Returning to the town of Speranza and reporting to Collard, Reurus mixes up with other workers to have dinner with Collard.

"The fact that the name 'Spirit Man' was spreading... well, let's put it aside for now. The immediate problem is more important than that."

Since the beginning of development in the town of Speranza, meals have been served in Natalian residential areas transformed into "forts”.

Cooking is mostly made in Meer, and Sarah helps instead because it's easy to manage the fire. Meer, who became family-friendly but able to cook, and Sarah, who was also good at baking meat, Neddy, who could produce water, and Eliza were added as helpers.

That's how Reurus talks to Collard while he eats the food that Meer and the others cook.

"The speed with which rumors spread is a pity, but it's also a nasty story that there's no stopping them. So we couldn't find any caravans in the town of Lemona...."

"Yes, Meer checked it out, but I don't think there's any sign of Baron Amondola walking down the street yesterday. I don't think I've ever overlooked the path that leads to the town of Speranza and headed south..."

"I guess so. Not to mention the path of the beast, but the path is so rough that there is no way to get lost."

That's how Collard sips his juice. It was a stewed dish made with vegetables, potatoes, and horny rabbit meat because a large number of people ate it at once.

"There were no signs of monsters or bandits attacking you, and you just forgot to send the materials?

"It is impossible for such a person to act as a merchant. Besides, the lord is sending out the guards? There's less danger and more profit... and we can't forget."

"That's right...."

Reurus also sticks his mouth to the juice. It wasn't like Dominic cooking, but it was a simple, calm, homey taste.

"Regardless of the merchant who prepares the merchandise, has it become a burden to prepare a guard soldier?

"Uhm... even if the burden is so great that I can't send the materials, it is reasonable to explain it properly... at the time of my last visit, it will be difficult from next time."

Reurus came up with an idea, but Collard twisted his neck because he wasn't convinced.

"What about the harassment that the town is doing well... and the deliberate delay in raising the price of the materials?

"Many other merchants are visiting this land for profit? If you are partnering with other merchants to raise prices at the same time, it makes no sense to step up prices alone. If you buy it from another merchant, that's all you need to know."

As far as materials are concerned, the trees that have been harvested around the city are becoming available for use as timber. With regard to other materials, there are some rocky areas not far from town if it is stone.

Some rock hills had a griffon nested by stretching their legs, so it was available to anyone who cut out the stone. The presence of dwarves does not pose a major problem for the personnel.

As far as materials not available in Baron Amendura's current territory were concerned, it would be enough to buy them from other merchants.

"Besides, harassment... I don't think there are people who want to harass the captain. I don't know if it's a court nobleman, but I don't know why the neighboring lords would do that."

There should be more effective timing for harassment. In addition, as a Kohllard, I could not imagine harassing and making a little mistake.

"... it's horrible to defy the captain."

(Let's just say I didn't ask...)

The sleigh was small, but that's why Reurus was distracted by a deep emotional murmur.

"But don't you see why?

"Well, that's true... just as we left town, we were attacked and annihilated by monsters and bandits, and the people in the town didn't notice..."

Even Collard had no idea, and he was tilting his neck with his arms up. And for a while, Reurus and Collard went through their thoughts while eating silently.

"... hmm. No matter how much you think about it, you won't get a convincing answer."

So?

"I want you to go check it out. If you suddenly protest against the lord, the horns will rise, but there will be no problem if the merchant who was supposed to come to this town“ confirms the situation. "

Reurus nodded and questioned Collard as he stroked his chin.

"The situation in the town has calmed down, and I don't mind... is it okay to move without checking with Mr. Kanji?

Collard is in charge of building the town, but Natalia is in charge of Baron Amendura's territory. For that reason, I wondered if it was okay to ask, but Collard smiled impatiently.

"What makes you think I'm here? If anything happens, I'll be responsible."

"Mr. Collard...."

Reurus called Collard with a moving name, reassuring him that he would take responsibility as the one who gave the instructions.

"... ah, but wait a bit... I thought you'd better ask the captain... no, no, you shouldn't spend any time moving around like this..."

"Mr. Collard...."

And as soon as Collard blued with his right hand around his stomach, Reurus called the name again, feeling like he couldn't say anything.

The day after dawn.

At the behest of Collard, Reurus and his men departed for the city of Lemona.

We can get there in about a day if we go west through the woods, but in preparation for the possibility that the caravan is only late, we use the streets to proceed with the revus.

Along the way, I also found Tillier's caravan, who was face-to-face the other day, so I greeted her and explained the journey to the town of Speranza. I'm sure you won't get lost, but I thought I'd tell you as a precaution.

"When I get back to town, should I tell Mr. Collard to make a signboard to show me the way?

"I don't think you should go that far... but if there are other towns and villages in Baron Amondola's territory, there's only one way out of the way.

"I wonder... is it more important to build roads than to stand up for signs? It's easy to tell the way because people are going through it, but at dusk or something, you might miss it because your vision gets worse...."

While traveling down the street, Reurus and Eliza interact while taking a light break. Sarah raised her hand with her expression shining.

"Yes, yes! I have a good idea!

"What's a good idea?

"If the grass grows and the road is hard to understand, you can burn it!

"... hmm"

I was wondering what to say, but I hammered that it might be a good idea to bake weeds grown on the street. However, if you want to burn weeds from edge to edge of the wide street, it won't be enough to have Sarah's magic.

"... I guess I need to talk to you around here. Maintaining the streets may also be a job for everyone who has migrated from the abandoned city of Laval...."

The town of Speranza is being built rapidly, but there is still work left to be dared to impress those who migrate. For that reason, Reurus thought that it would be necessary to consult the whole street to get a sign.

While occasionally having such a chat, Reurus and the others continue down the street. When the sun leans, prepare camp at the Station and dawn the night, and when the sun rises, proceed again toward the city of Lemona.

As quickly as possible to the town of Lemona, Reus left the town of Speranza for a day and a half - until the next day, after noon, he could see the city.

"Is that the town of Lemona...."

Reurus murmurs as he looks at the very simple map Collard has created. It's just a map with roughly the street and town locations, ignoring the scale, but it doesn't seem to be a complicated branch of the road, and we made it there safely.

The town of Lemona had a slightly more subtle impression than the “normal" town that Leurus had visited before.

Although walls are built to surround the town, they are not as high as five meters. They build earthen walls like the town of Speranza, which is currently under construction, to make it a "foundation”, stacked with stone to boost their defenses, but some of them are under construction or the earthen walls are still peeling out.

From a distance, it seemed narrower than the town of Speranza. There are a number of large fields around the town, and you can see soldiers patrolling to prepare for monsters.

(I mean, even though it's just a site, how big is our town...? I don't think there's a moat...)

It seems that priority is given to the construction of the outer wall, or that empty moats and the like have not been built.

At first glance at the town of Lemona, the impression of Leurus is somewhere between the abandoned city and the fortified city. The town of Speranza is just strange, and it may be “normal” to spend a little time building exterior walls like the town of Lemona.

We arrived near town, so we stopped running and slowly approached them so as not to irritate patrols or sentry soldiers. Soldiers also noticed Reurus and looked at him strangely.

"A traveler with children... no, an adventurer?

"You look so old... my name is Reurus, a senior and subordinate adventurer accompanying me in the development of the Baron of Amendura."

Regardless of the “real age”, Reurus shows the adventurer's ID while thinking that he will not be that old in appearance.

And when he tried to cut something out, the soldiers frowned before Reurus could say anything.

"Baron Amedora... about the materials the other day?

Reurus opened his eyes small to a soldier asking if something was wrong.

"Yes... I came to see a merchant in this town about that."

Reurus answers that he came to see the merchant first because he doesn't know who caused it. If you talk to the soldier in this way, it will naturally be passed on to the “boss”.

If you talk like that, you'll be cleared for traffic. Not only that, the soldiers accompanied me to the gates of the town of Lemona and spoke to the guards.

"Thank you very much. Thank you."

"No, I don't mind that...."

Soldiers are still wandering their gaze as if they were evil. Reurus decided to step into that too obvious attitude.

"Maybe you were supposed to be the escort for the transport of materials?

"... ahh. But suddenly the lord... no, it's nothing. Make sure you didn't ask."

Reurus leans his neck on a soldier who is making it very difficult to say.

(Does the lord judge the nobles who rule this land? But it's too sudden for that....)

Reurus thought we'd meet the merchant first and listen to him. It seems like I could ask a lot of questions if I missed shipping materials.

Reus thought so and dived through the gates with Eliza and the others.

"... Eliza?

Immediately before that, I noticed Eliza stopping for some reason.

Except for Eliza, when Reurus and the others looked at Eliza strangely, Eliza stared into the sky with a stunning expression. But as soon as he returned to me, he walked out in a hurry.

"I'm sorry! I was out of my mind!

"No, I don't mind that... are you okay? Are you tired?

As Reurus peeks into her face to check her condition, Eliza turns her face red and step back.

"It's okay, it's okay! I'm fine!?

"... is that so?

Reurus stepped into the town of Lemona, scratching his sweat while leaning his neck against Eliza, desperately denying it.
