Chapter 2051 - 487: Mad with Jealousy, Stealing Love with a Drawn Blade (Part 7)
Yan Ke kept chattering nonstop, but no one paid her any attention. As Yan Ke stepped out, she saw a man in black standing under the eaves by the door, the same man who had just served them tea. Seeing Yan Ke come out, he bowed respectfully.
"What’s your name?" Yan Ke’s eyes darted around as she decided to take a roundabout approach.
"I am called Hu Sheng," the man in black replied respectfully.
"What is this place?"
The man in black pressed his lips together but remained silent.
Yan Ke waved her hand, realizing she wouldn’t get anything out of him, and strode to the door. Two men in black guarded the entrance. As soon as he appeared, they bowed respectfully: "The master has instructed that the young master must not step out of the courtyard."
So, they were being confined here.
Yan Ke swiftly ran back to the living room, only to find his father and brother drinking tea with unparalleled calmness and elegance, not the least bit surprised. Even Sister Yun Ya looked as if nothing was out of ordinary.
Yan Ke felt an overwhelming urge to scream, "What kind of place is this, exactly?"
Yun Ya chuckled and shook her head, pouring him a cup of tea, "I’ve heard you yapping all the way here. Aren’t you thirsty? Have some tea to soothe your throat."
With Yun Ya’s reminder, Yan Ke realized his throat was indeed burning. He took a big swig from the tea cup, then plopped down across from Yun Ya, "Sister Yun Ya, tell me, what are we even doing here?"
Yun Ya shook her head in confusion, "I have no idea."
Yan Ke: ...
What’s with that innocent and calm face?
"Aren’t you curious?"
Yun Ya smiled.
"As long as I’m with Brother Yan, I don’t care where we go."
The girl’s eyes were full of spring, looking affectionately at the man beside her, who also gazed at her tenderly. This scene should have been utterly beautiful, given their stunning looks, but Yan Ke got goosebumps all over and rolled his eyes madly.
"Showing off your love leads to a swift end."
"That’s still better than some people who don’t even have any love to show off," came the reply.
Yan Ke clutched his chest, unbelieving as he looked at the sly, smiling old fox, feeling deeply wounded.
This jab came from his own father.
"Are you really my dad?"
"You can get a DNA test," Yan Nanmo replied nonchalantly while sipping his tea.
Yan Ke was at a loss for words.
Yan Nanmo glanced at him, "Look at your big brother, then look at yourself. When will you bring a wife home for me? Right now, the male-to-female ratio imbalance in Country Hua is severe. Of your age group, thirty million men in Country Hua will end up bachelors. You better get a wife early, or you’ll be one of those thirty million."
Yan Ke chuckled, flipping his fringe and proudly said, "With my looks, you think I can’t find a wife? Mom always said I’m a spitting image of you when you were young. Do you doubt me or yourself?"
The clever little fox!
"Mom clearly tried to set me up with Sister Yun Ya back then. If my brother hadn’t swooped in and stolen her, today she would have been my fiancée, and my brother would be the bachelor, ha...."
As soon as Yan Ke finished speaking, he felt cold glares on him, and if they were real knives, he would be covered in cuts.
Yan Nanmo gave him a "good luck" look, silently chuckling.
"Steal your love?" Yan Song raised an eyebrow, speaking softly.
Yan Ke instinctively hunched his shoulders but then thought there was no need to be afraid. After all, it was their mom who wanted to match him with Sister Yun Ya. What did this have to do with his brother?
"Wasn’t it? Sister Yun Ya was originally destined to be my fiancée...."
He received a kick to his stool, and Yan Ke fell to the ground, sprawling with limbs akimbo, feeling like his soul left his body.
"Yan Song," Yan Ke shouted angrily.
Yan Song remained composed, tossing a disdainful glance at Yan Ke: "Ask your sister-in-law how blind she’d have to be to choose you."
Yun Ya laughed sweetly, "My eyesight is fine, the first time I saw him, I already liked him."
This confession was anything but reserved.
Their words stabbed right at Yan Ke, making his blood boil.
Yan Song’s gaze suddenly softened as he held Yun Ya’s hand warmly. Their eyes met, filling the room with a cozy, spring-like warmth.
Yan Nanmo watched with a smile, most happy to see the young ones having fun, especially Ah Song and Yun Ya, reminding him of his youthful days with Yueyue.
Youth happens only once, meant to be spent without regrets, holding her hand while reminiscing in old age.
"You all... You’re bullying me too much," Yan Ke finally managed to choke out, his cheeks flushed with frustration.
"Yes, we’re bullying you," Yan Song said with a cocky expression, his brow raised.
Yun Ya smiled with pursed lips, draping herself over Yan Song’s arm, leaning her head on his shoulder.
"I don’t believe I can’t find a girl better than Sister Yun Ya. If I can’t find one, I’ll never marry in this lifetime," Yan Ke vowed through gritted teeth.
"Then you’re destined to grow old alone, but don’t worry, I’ll have my son take care of you in your old age to make sure it’s not too pitiful," Yan Song said carelessly.
"You’ll see," Yan Ke said, clenching his fists, silently making a firm vow.
Little did he know, words spoke with conviction often turn prophetic.
"Alright, stop teasing him, Yan Ke is just a child at heart," Yun Ya said helplessly.
Yan Ke stamped his foot, "I am not a child."
Yun Ya smiled indulgently, "Yes, you’re not a child, that was sister’s mistake."
Yan Ke: ...!
"An elder sister-in-law is like a mother. When your mother isn’t around, you listen to your sister-in-law," Yan Song said in a deep voice.
Yan Ke rolled his eyes, "You’re not even married yet; don’t speak too soon."
"Ha...."
Experience it yourself.
Yan Ke suddenly shivered, knowing not to mess with the tiger’s whiskers. His brother was vindictive and would surely take revenge later.
With that personality of his brother’s, it was hard to fathom how Sister Yun Ya endured it, Yan Ke mumbled.
"Your brother is great; I think he’s the most manly man in the world," Yun Ya said, looking lovingly at Yan Song.
The implication being, besides his brother, no other man had masculinity left; in a lover’s eyes, their partner is always perfect. These two were like peas in a pod, seeing each other as unparalleled.
Yan Nanmo drank tea cup after cup, listening to the banter of his children, with a smile on his lips. His gaze drifted to the window, his eyes tinged with nostalgia.
He wondered how Yueyue was these days.
The sky gradually darkened, and dinner was brought in by Hu Sheng. The meal was rather lavish: four dishes and a soup, rivaling the chef’s craft at Deyun Building in taste, with a unique flavor making it truly a culinary delight.
The four of them ate with great joy, Yan Ke talking, Yun Ya occasionally chiming in, Yan Nanmo watching with a smile, and Yan Song with a stern face, occasionally picking food for Yun Ya. Under the dim light, the scene was particularly warm.
"I can’t eat any more," Yun Ya said woefully, looking at the small mountain of food in her bowl.
Yan Song frowned at her, his chilly voice tempered by a hint of warmth, "Eat a bit more."
"Yes, Sister Yun Ya, you’re too skinny, you should eat more to put on some weight, or else it’ll hurt my brother’s arms to hold you... uh...."
Catching Yan Song’s icy stare, Yan Ke hurriedly buried his face in his bowl.
Yun Ya chuckled; she had to admit, Yan Ke’s comment struck a chord within her. She glanced at her modest chest, her heart quietly steeling itself.
Picking up her chopsticks, a look of determined sacrifice on her face, she said, "Alright, I’ll eat."
Though Yan Song felt sorry she was so thin, he didn’t want to go against her wishes, so he took her chopsticks away, "Forget it."
Yun Ya smiled, retrieved her chopsticks, and said, "Wasting food is shameful."
