Chapter 642: Court
Chapter 642: Court
"Hey, look!" A guard standing in a mural tower shouted while pointing into the distance, where something huge could be seen.
The other guards also looked in that direction, and the person in charge of the binoculars immediately turned to see the object.
"That’s... THAT’S A BEAST!" he shouted immediately after.
"A HUGE AVIAN BEAST!"
The guards along the walls started to panic and immediately contacted their commander in charge.
By the time the commander climbed up to see the beast, It was already within 20 kilometres of the city, and there was no sign of its speed decreasing.
It would have been another thing if the beast was just passing by. In rare cases, some migrating wild beasts did end up passing through a city’s airspace. The main problem was that the beast was descending towards the city.
"Shit! Contact the castle! Say a very strong avian beast is descending towards the city!"
He then turned towards the guards.
"Aim your bows! Turn the ballistas! CALL THE MAGES!"
SWOOOOSSSHH!
The commander didn’t even finish speaking before the beast had already crossed the city walls.
"Ahhhhh!"
"What is that?!"
Chaos immediately ensued inside the city as people frantically started running into their homes and bunkers.
"ATTACK!" the commander signalled his men as volleys of arrows, ballista bolts, and fireballs shot straight towards Kaelion’s Skyreaver.
Skreeeeee!!
The Skyreaver simply gave a single screech, and a powerful gust of wind blew away everything that was approaching it.
Amidst all this chaos, the passengers riding the Skyreaver didn’t bother a single bit.
"Thunder, revolve around the city. I need to spot the building."
The beast obeyed and started circling the city, which had a diameter of 30 kilometres.
The guards and soldiers were completely panicking and trying their best to attack the beast, but the attacks didn’t even reach it, let alone scratch it.
It was not long after that Kaelion spotted a conspicuous building with a white dome, a signature style for the courts.
"Thunder, down there."
The Skyreaver immediately changed direction and started descending.
Until now, nobody had spotted the people riding the beast from below. It was only when the beast dropped down to a hundred-meter level that 6 people jumped down and it became clear. The wind supporting their fall and letting them land softly on the ground.
The Skyreaver once again ascended into the skies.
Kaelion turned towards Leo.
"Wait here and see how it’s done."
Kaelion didn’t waste a single second and directly headed inside the building.
Not even a minute passed before—
BOOM!
An explosion rang out from inside the court, and Kaelion walked out with two people held by their collars in both hands. They were dragged along the ground as they struggled uselessly in Kaelion’s grip.
James and Vintage were left speechless at the scene.
Dama and Ramu’s eyes widened while they were still bound. They immediately recognized the two men. They were the same officials who had helped them pass the ruling with some bribes.
All the resistance they had been trying to show since earlier in hopes of getting revenge quieted down.
"Well... that’s one way?" Leo muttered as Kaelion threw both men in front.
One was a young black-haired man wearing black and white dress clothes, while the other was an older man wearing a heavy coat, signifying that he was the judge and the young man was a lawyer.
"Bastard! Who the fuck are you?! Do you think having strength is everything in the Empire?! Just wait until the Head comes to get you!" the judge shouted.
"The Empire has laws! And even a beast master like you cannot escape from them!"
Thud!
Kaelion simply placed his foot on the man’s chest, applying only enough pressure to make it difficult for him to breathe. Since the judge was a normal person, Kaelion could very well kill him outright with a simple press.
"And what is he going to do?" Kaelion asked, looking dead into his eyes.
"If the Empire has laws and you are so aware of them, then shouldn’t you be worried about the punishment that corrupt officials receive?"
Kaelion threw the ruling papers at their faces.
"This is just a single piece of proof that exposes your corruption, and though it’s enough to strip you people of your positions, should I try looking for more and execute you right on the spot as my right for being a noble in the Empire?"
The lawyer immediately went through the papers, and the more he read, the paler his face became. Being a lawyer, he was a master at finding loopholes in cases, and if someone accused him of corruption, he could usually find a way around it.
He had already been planning to have Kaelion receive the harshest punishment for what he had done, but after looking at the papers, he started sweating even in an environment that wasn’t hot.
Kaelion began speaking.
"Rule 10, Section 451 A. Any Empire official found guilty of corruption is immediately to be stripped of his position."
"Rule 3, Section 315 N. Any official sitting in a judicial position found to be not following the proper procedures of a certain case that, in turn, puts Party A in danger, causes mental distress, or involves threats by Party B, or vice versa, makes them liable for punishment depending on the degree of harassment that went on without punishment for the actions of any party. This even includes the death penalty in severe situations."
Kaelion went on in a flow, stating each and every law in the lawbook related to their offence without missing a beat.
With every passing second, the judge and lawyer’s faces drained of all colour, while Leo was astonished by Kaelion’s knowledge.
Leo didn’t even know a lawbook existed that Kaelion was practically singing like a song. And since it was true, it was paramount for him to know them. With his strong brain and computing powers, just reading them once would be more than enough to do something like Kaelion.
By now, the area around the court had been completely surrounded by soldiers, but they didn’t move a single muscle, nor did they speak, listening to the single person who was reciting the laws of the Empire.
When the commander arrived, he immediately panicked after seeing the scene.
"S-shit, did they use those underhanded means on these strong people?" He immediately took out his communication crystals and directly contacted the City Lord.
Not long after, someone flew towards their direction riding a Skyrend Eagle. And with the way many other Skyrend Eagles were surrounding it, it was clear that it was Milti’s city lord.
