Chapter 258 - 167: Shefilya’s Home
After collecting the reward, there were still other things to do today.
Lin Mo went to a tavern near the City Lord’s Mansion and sat for a bit. Before long, a blonde-haired girl pushed the door open and walked in.
Dressed in a simple white outfit, Feney looked exceptionally pure. Her adorable face seemed as if it were carved from delicate jade, tempting one to take a bite.
"Mr. Lin Mo, sorry to keep you waiting."
As she spoke, Feney took out her wallet. "The reward for this mission..."
"This doesn’t really feel like a mission, does it?"
Lin Mo interrupted her. "Strictly speaking, it was just a Call-up Order."
If this time also counted for double pay, meaning he took another reward from Feney, he and Ali would earn nearly 2,500 Gold Coins combined. It was undoubtedly a huge sum, and likely wouldn’t be easy for Feney to afford.
If this were back when they’d first met, Lin Mo might not have hesitated. ’Only a fool passes up a good deal.’
But now that he was good friends with Feney, it didn’t feel right to keep making her pay.
Especially since this wasn’t technically a mission... He had already been paid for it once before; he was too embarrassed to ask again.
Constantly taking things from Feney, even someone with her sweet and yielding nature, would eventually grow unhappy.
Lin Mo genuinely saw her as a teammate and a friend, so of course he would consider her feelings.
’Even from a more pragmatic standpoint, I can’t just focus on this small, immediate gain. If I want to stay in the good graces of my wealthy patron, the most important thing is to keep building our rapport. You have to play the long game to reel in the big fish.’
"Is that so?"
At first, Feney tried to insist, but after Lin Mo refused a few times, she didn’t press the issue.
"Oh, right, Mr. Lin Mo, about that manor you mentioned. I asked my mother about it last night, and she said you’re welcome to live there. It’s not far from the City Lord’s Mansion..."
"That’s great."
Since the offer came from Feney’s mother, City Lord Beixila, Lin Mo didn’t hesitate to accept.
"So, shall we head over now?"
With Feney leading the way, the three of them arrived at the manor she had spoken of.
"It’s this huge?!"
The moment he stepped into the manor grounds, Lin Mo glanced from side to side. The estate was terrifyingly vast.
A quick glance suggested it had to be over 20,000 square meters!
’To have such a large estate so close to the city center... just as you’d expect from the City Lord.’
"A place this huge... can we really just stay here?"
Even the normally carefree Ali felt a little sheepish.
"It’s fine. Mother said that you all... that *we* have made a lot of contributions to Silver Stream City recently, so you shouldn’t worry about little things like this."
’*"We,"* huh?’
Lin Mo smiled to himself. ’Looks like this Little Priest isn’t getting away from my team.’
"By the way, there’s one more thing..."
Feney suddenly looked a little bashful. "I might need to take a few days off."
"Oh? Why is that?"
Lin Mo paused, then a thought struck him. "You’re about to level up?"
"Yeah!"
Feney nodded, visibly delighted. "It’s all thanks to you, Mr. Lin Mo, for taking me out adventuring. That’s the only reason I’ve improved so fast... I’m planning to spend the next few days preparing to level up. Once I reach Level 2, I’ll be able to help you even more."
"Great. Good luck!"
Lin Mo nodded in encouragement.
Feney soon departed to take care of her business, while Lin Mo and Ali went to the Adventurer’s Commercial Street to do some shopping.
The soil at the manor was already excellent, so all they needed was to buy some seeds for Lena. The seeds for these Special Crops were certainly more expensive than ordinary ones, but since Lena was just starting, she didn’t need any rare varieties. The cost wasn’t outrageous—just a few Gold Coins would suffice.
After that, they went to the inn to move their belongings, including Lena’s things, and then checked out.
From now on, they wouldn’t need to live in an inn anymore.
As evening approached, Lin Mo and Ali went to the Association to pick Lena up from work. But instead of going out to a restaurant as they usually did, they took the Little Cat Girl straight to the manor.
"This place is..."
"It’s a manor we’re borrowing from Feney. We’ll be living here for a while."
"Huh?!"
Lena stared at the enormous manor before her, her eyes wide with shock.
For someone like her, who had grown up in poverty, such a luxurious estate was something that made her feel unworthy even from a distance, let alone live in.
"Is this really okay?"
Lena looked a little uneasy.
"Of course."
Lin Mo ruffled her hair. ’It felt as nice as ever.’
"Come on in."
Ali pulled her good friend into the manor grounds, pointing to the open land on either side. "You can use all of this from now on. Plant whatever you like."
Before Lena could even register her shock, Ali pulled her into the manor’s main house.
The interior was exquisitely decorated, but not so ornate as to be gaudy; it had a very comfortable and pleasant feel.
The living room was shockingly large, at least two or three hundred square meters. Shiny cups sat on a silver tea table, alongside some pastries and tea leaves.
The far end of the main hall was split into two sections. One side was a dining room, while the slightly smaller adjacent area was the kitchen. The kitchen contained a Magic Energy Ice Box. Lin Mo opened it, revealing prepared, chilled fruit wines and a selection of other non-alcoholic drinks.
