Chapter 209 - 148: How Can You Be So Cute?
After gathering all the loot, the group left the area, found a suitable clearing, and settled down to rest.
Before it grew completely dark, the party’s Ranger, Sheela, went hunting nearby under the protection of Huck and Benny.
The rest of the group got to work setting up tents, starting a campfire, and placing traps...
The task of starting the fire naturally fell to Lin Mo. He only needed to channel the Fire Elemental Magic Power within him to easily ignite a bonfire.
Ali had already chopped a pile of firewood and was adding it to the flames, quickly growing it into a massive bonfire.
As he set up his tent, Lin Mo used the spare moment to check on his gains from the last battle.
First was the [Punching Fist] Skill. It had only been Level 1, so it leveled up very quickly.
"Skill [Punching Fist] Level 1 (10/10) has leveled up!"
"Current Skill: [Punching Fist] Level 2 (15/20)"
Not only had it leveled up, but it was also well on its way to Level 3. Once it hit Level 3, he’d gain another point of Strength.
There was also the Backstab Skill. Although it hadn’t leveled up, it had accumulated a good amount of proficiency. Its current level was Level 3 (31/40).
Other Skills close to leveling up included Shadow Assault, Level 3 (19/40), and Lightness, Level 1 (8/10).
But none of these Skills were as high a priority as [Ice Cone Skill].
Although it still needed 51 proficiency points to level up, this Skill had already reached Level 4. Upgrading it would mean an evolution, unlocking a new Excellent Level Magic and boosting his Magic Power.
At that point, Lin Mo’s Magic Attribute should hit 28! He would be just two points shy of reaching Level 3.
Once he hit Level 3, it meant his Mage Level would finally catch up with his Warrior Profession, and he would become a true mainstay in combat.
He closed his status panel just as Sheela and the others returned with their hunt.
They had brought back a Rock Armor Boar, which was a pleasant surprise.
The Rock Armor Boar was considered a fairly strong Demon. This one was taller than a man, its body so massive that Huck and Benny had to carry it back together.
Judging by its size, the Rock Armor Boar had a Threat Level of at least 1.5.
’This is the benefit of working with a capable party. Everyone’s an expert; even the game they bring back is impressive.’
Everyone swarmed over to skin and butcher the boar. They couldn’t eat all of it, though. The meat of a Magical Beast contained far more Energy than ordinary food; even a Professional couldn’t eat very much.
Taking it with them was neither practical nor necessary, as they already had plenty of other loot to carry.
So they simply took the choicest cuts of meat and left the rest.
Lin Mo cut the best piece of meat into small chunks and skewered them on sharpened branches to make kebabs.
He had specifically bought some inexpensive spices while shopping in the city, for just such an occasion.
He propped the skewers over the fire to roast. Lin Mo had used large chunks of meat, which looked incredibly satisfying.
The high-quality pork sizzled in the heat of the Flame, and fat dripped into the fire from time to time, releasing a rich aroma that drifted through the air.
Meanwhile, Ali and Sheela put the meaty bones into a small pot, adding some vegetables they were carrying and mushrooms they had gathered from the woods—as experienced Adventurers, they were certain the mushrooms were non-poisonous.
With these ingredients in the pot, all it took was some simple seasoning to make a delicious soup.
With the addition of some foraged wild berries, tonight’s dinner was especially bountiful.
The group gathered together, eating and chatting, creating a lively atmosphere.
"Don’t be fooled by Benny’s simple and honest act. The man actually has two wives at home..."
"And they’re both gorgeous. Tsk, tsk. Why don’t I have that kind of luck with women?"
Huck lamented, shaking his head as he ate a kebab.
"Maybe you would if you stopped frequenting ’those kinds of places.’"
Sheela retorted from the side.
"You’re one to talk! Sheela, aren’t you keeping a young boyfriend yourself?"
The conversation suddenly turned to them exposing each other’s flaws, but in such a cheerful atmosphere, it was an easy way to get to know one another better and strengthen their bond.
’New Adventurers tend to form temporary parties, but as your experience grows and your talent and power level stabilize, you eventually need to find long-term, stable teammates.’
’It helps build chemistry, which leads to better coordination in battle. When everyone knows each other well, you don’t have to worry about hidden motives. You can focus on the mission and reduce the number of unknown variables.’
’That was why Lin Mo wanted to form his own party.’
’He used to worry that he was getting stronger too quickly for his teammates to keep up, but ever since he acquired the [Cultivator Companion] Skill, that concern had lessened considerably.’
’Besides, Ali’s own talent wasn’t bad at all; it just wasn’t as ridiculous as his.’
’The same went for Feney. With each new adventure, Lin Mo could clearly sense her improvement.’
’Even from the start, she hadn’t been a newly-promoted Priest, and now she was probably approaching Level 2, right?’
’Ali was in the same boat, just a single step away from Level 2.’
’Lin Mo considered teaching his own Skills to Ali, but without a Skill Scroll, just teaching her directly probably wouldn’t be very efficient.’
’After all, not everyone had his ridiculous aptitude for learning.’
’Hopefully, when [Cultivator Companion] leveled up and evolved, it would gain more effects that could solve these problems.’
...
After a while of idle chatter, everyone grew tired and prepared to get some rest.
This was where the advantage of having a larger group became apparent.
