Chapter 193 - 142: Meditation, Level 3 Cultivator Companion
"Stop, wait a second..."
Chacher cut her off directly. "Little Feney, what did you just call me?"
"Auntie... Auntie Chacher?"
Feney looked at her, completely bewildered.
"Why don’t you think a little harder about what you should call me?"
The expression on Chacher’s face at that moment was just like a pervy old uncle’s.
Feney finally came to her senses. She bit her lip and said, somewhat reluctantly, "Big Sister Chacher..."
"There you go!"
Chacher finally smiled in satisfaction. "1500 gold, you can take both potions."
That meant each potion was 750 gold coins, a price much more in line with their actual value.
Lin Mo suddenly realized what was happening. ’This old hag, is she playing games with me and Feney?’
’All this just to trick Feney into calling her ’Big Sister’...’
’It sounded a bit ridiculous, but judging by Chacher’s expression, it was not only possible, but highly probable.’
In any case, they had gotten what they came for. Lin Mo paid, and looking at the mere 23 gold and 55 silver left in his wallet, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of melancholy.
Money really was hard to earn and easy to spend.
But it had to be said, the money was well spent.
Lin Mo first opened the bottle of Thunder Attribute Elemental Reagent and drank it.
As the liquid slid down his throat, it left a tingling numbness in its wake... Then, a peculiar sensation spread through his body. It was similar to how he felt when he drank the Flame Reagent, yet not entirely the same.
"You should wait a while before drinking the other one," Chacher advised. "Although they won’t conflict with each other, using them back-to-back might slightly diminish the effects."
Following Chacher’s advice, Lin Mo carefully put away the other bottle, an earthy-yellow Elemental Reagent, planning to drink it the next day.
After exchanging a few more pleasantries, they left Chacher’s little shop. The group wandered around outside for a while longer, but they didn’t buy any more food.
It was mainly because it was getting close to evening, and Shefilya was worried it would spoil their dinner, so she forbade it.
Lin Mo and Ali didn’t mind, of course, but Feney looked completely dejected, just like a greedy little kid.
In some ways, a girl with such a pure and simple heart behaved just like a child who hadn’t grown up, making her both amusing and endearing.
But no matter how pitiful Feney’s expression was, Shefilya clearly wouldn’t be swayed. No meant no, regardless of how much Feney whined or acted cute.
At times like this, she didn’t seem like a Maid at all, but more like a butler or even an elder.
Back at the City Lord’s Mansion, they had dinner in the same dining hall as before. The meal was even more lavish than lunch, and Feney ate a huge amount, as if to make up for the frustration of not getting any snacks earlier.
Even her table manners weren’t as elegant as they had been at noon; she was much more casual.
That said, she wasn’t angry with Shefilya at all, because Feney knew she was only looking out for her.
After the hearty dinner, Lin Mo and Ali returned to their room. Lin Mo once again took out the Skill Scroll and began studying it again.
After resting for a while, the feeling of growing irritation he’d experienced before was indeed gone. However, he still couldn’t find that so-called state of "single-minded focus."
He closed his eyes and tried for a while before opening them in resignation, just in time to see Ali coming out of the bath.
The Little Wolf Girl didn’t treat him like a stranger in the slightest. She didn’t even bother with a towel, just sauntered out completely naked.
Uh... yo-yos?
"Not going well?"
Ali asked with concern as she dried the water from her hair.
"Yeah, I’m having a hard time getting the feel for it."
"Then how about we relax a little first? Relieve some stress. Maybe once the stress is gone, you’ll be able to find that feeling."
Ali suggested, her eyes glinting.
She was obviously being self-serving. Lin Mo’s first instinct was to harshly condemn such improper behavior, but on second thought, he suddenly felt she had a point.
’What was that term again... Post-nut clarity?’
’It did seem somewhat similar to the state described on the scroll.’
’Worth a try?’
Lin Mo and Ali’s eyes met. Seemingly understanding the meaning in his gaze, Ali began to wag her tail and slowly walked over.
...
Some time later, as Ali slowly raised her head and gave him a look full of alluring charm, Lin Mo sat up straight again, picked up the scroll, and once more closed his eyes, trying to enter a state of "Meditation."
And what do you know, this time he actually felt something, like an insomniac catching the faintest, fleeting hint of drowsiness.
Lin Mo’s spirits instantly lifted, and then...
And then the feeling vanished.
Because he had been stuck for so long, the moment he found a direction, he got too excited and was immediately knocked out of that state.
It was like suddenly needing to pee just as you were about to fall asleep.
You get up to use the bathroom, and then you can’t fall asleep anymore...
Lin Mo sighed in frustration and had no choice but to open his eyes again.
"Again!"
In any case, he had found the right method. Since that was the case, he just needed to keep trying in that direction.
This made Ali grin from ear to ear. She would never miss an opportunity to increase her strength, so she naturally seized the "moment" to grow through continuous "training."
And so, a moment later, Lin Mo attempted "Meditation" once again.
He smoothly found that feeling from before. This time, Lin Mo didn’t waste the opportunity by getting excited. Instead, he slowly sank into it, following the instructions on the scroll, and tried to circulate his Magic Power while maintaining that state of single-minded focus.
But just as one could tell from the description, the two tasks were clearly somewhat contradictory, so it wasn’t going to be that easy.
A few minutes later, Lin Mo opened his eyes and sighed. "So close."
He was just one step away. He could almost feel his Magic Power and Spirit entering a wondrous state, but at the very last moment, he fell just short.
’One more time. I’ll definitely get it this time!’
Lin Mo’s continuous efforts moved Ali to tears of joy, and she danced around with excitement.
And with her "encouragement," Lin Mo made his third attempt.
This time, with the experience from his previous attempts, everything went smoothly for Lin Mo. He finally began to enter the state described on the scroll.
His body was more relaxed than ever before, his mind was crystal clear, and his Spirit and Magic Power entered a state of profound resonance.
A long while later, Lin Mo opened his eyes and exhaled a breath of stale air.
Indeed, in the "Meditation" state, he could clearly feel his mental fatigue being soothed away bit by bit. As for his Magic Power... since he had barely used any, the effect wasn’t very obvious.
But that was fine. The Skill Level panel would naturally tell him the skill’s specific effects.
The relevant information had already appeared before his eyes. Lin Mo focused his gaze and read:
"Learned Skill [Basic Meditation Method]. Gained attribute points: Spirit +2, Magic Power +1!"
[Basic Meditation Method] Level 1 (0/10): Enter a state of Meditation, increasing Magic Power recovery speed by 20% and Spirit recovery speed by 20%!
Note: This state requires deep concentration and will significantly reduce Insight!
The attribute increase alone was enough to show how extraordinary this skill was.
Learning an Excellent Level skill did grant 3 attribute points, but this time it wasn’t 3 points in Magic Power. It was 1 point in Magic Power and 2 points in Spirit!
This was a huge gain.
What Lin Mo urgently needed to improve right now wasn’t his Magic Power, but his Spirit, which was the most difficult attribute to raise.
The only slight shame was that with this extra point of Magic Power, his Basic Magic Power was now at exactly 19, just one point shy of advancing.
But it wasn’t a big deal. Advancement was only a matter of time.
The effects of the Basic Meditation Method were quite good, directly increasing Magic Power and Spirit recovery speed by 20%. It might not seem like much, but this was only at Level 1!
Based on his past experience, this value would increase at Level 2 and Level 3. Excellent Level skills had a total of 7 levels, so by Level 7, the number would surely be quite impressive.
Besides, this was just the Basic Meditation Method. There were still Intermediate and High Level versions above it...
However, the skill also had a drawback. As the note mentioned, activating this skill would put him in a "Meditation" state, which would drastically reduce his awareness of his surroundings.
In other words, when a Mage was in "Meditation," they would be more Fragile than usual and more vulnerable to attack.
Therefore, before starting to meditate, one had to ensure their surroundings were safe, and it was best to have a bodyguard stand guard.
This was quite normal. As the core damage dealers, Mages needed their teammates’ protection anyway.
Lin Mo closed the panel and tried to enter the Meditation state again.
For an ordinary Mage, Meditation was an extremely demanding state. Even if they succeeded once by chance, it would still be very difficult to enter it again. Mastering this skill required long periods of constant practice and was incredibly hard.
But Lin Mo was different. With the Skill Level panel, as long as he succeeded once, everything after that would be a walk in the park. The possibility of failure simply didn’t exist.
Oh, right. There was also this...
Besides the message about the [Basic Meditation Skill], another one had appeared just now.
[Cultivator Companion] Skill Level +1
"Skill [Cultivator Companion] Level 2 (20/20) has leveled up!"
"Current Skill: [Cultivator Companion] Level 3 (0/40)"
"Gained attribute point: Constitution +1!"
That’s right. After all of Lin Mo and Ali’s tireless efforts during this time, the [Cultivator Companion] skill had finally leveled up again.
However, Lin Mo had no way of knowing yet what the difference was between Level 3 and Level 2 Cultivator Companion.
To figure out the difference, he would have to test it out personally and let Ali tell him the answer.
And to that, Ali was, of course, more than happy to enthusiastically help...
The next morning, an attendant knocked on the door. Lin Mo groggily opened his eyes to the sight of Ali’s fluffy ears right in front of him.
He reached out and gave them a squeeze. Ali immediately let out a sleepy murmur and gently nuzzled his chin.
"Time to get up. Feney is already waiting for us for breakfast."
Although yesterday had certainly been... taxing, Lin Mo had started studying the skill right after dinner, so he’d still gotten a decent amount of sleep. Combined with his strong Constitution, he was already about seventy or eighty percent recovered.
Lin Mo planned to accept his next mission tomorrow. Before that, though, there were still a few important things to do today...
