Chapter 260 - 168: A Solo Journey to Grind Skill Level
A Level 4 Cultivator Companion was indeed a bit stronger than a Level 3 one.
This boosted Ali’s growth rate once again.
But Lin Mo, who was always helping others get stronger, felt the skill wasn’t being used to its full potential.
’If only there was someone stronger than me, they could raise my Attributes in return...’
But where could he find someone who was stronger than him and also willing to be a Cultivator Companion?
After a night of exertion, Lin Mo still felt quite energetic when he woke up the next day.
This was the benefit of his ever-increasing Constitution. He only needed a short rest to ensure he was in decent shape the next day, as long as he didn’t overdo it for too many consecutive days.
"What are you planning to do today, Lin Mo?"
Ali also woke up groggily. She leaned against his chest, snuggling up to him coquettishly as she asked.
"Since it’s just the two of us, how about we skip taking on a mission?"
Lin Mo shared his plan: "Why don’t I go to the outer area of Loran Forest and bully some Goblins? It’ll help ease some of the pressure on Silver Stream City."
It wouldn’t actually help much, but every Goblin killed was one less Goblin.
"Mm..."
Ali murmured, then fell silent for a moment. "Lin Mo, I want to properly practice my Skills."
She had been on high-intensity adventures with Lin Mo recently, and while her strength had increased rapidly—including significant growth in her Skill Proficiency—not everyone was a genius like him. When a skill reached a certain level, you’d hit a bottleneck. At that point, simply fighting more wouldn’t lead to a breakthrough. You had to slow down, study, and refine your techniques.
Although Ali’s physical Attributes were constantly improving, combat wasn’t just a simple contest of stats. Skills were just as important. If her Skills stagnated, her actual Combat Power would feel inflated and unreliable.
"Is that so?"
Lin Mo nodded. "Alright. In that case, I’ll go alone."
Ali looked at him with apologetic eyes. "Will you be upset if I don’t go with you...? Maybe I should go with you after all."
"Don’t be silly."
Lin Mo casually slapped a familiar spot. "Just focus on practicing your Skills. Don’t worry about me."
’What could possibly happen just bullying Goblins in the outer area of Loran Forest?’
"Oh..."
Ali rubbed the place he’d slapped and immediately became obedient.
It was getting late, so the two of them quickly got out of bed. As expected, both Shefilya and Lena were already gone.
Lena had gone to work, and Shefilya had probably returned to the City Lord’s Mansion.
Shefilya had left them breakfast, though. It was clearly made in a hurry and didn’t look as exquisite as last night’s meal, but it still tasted quite good.
After breakfast, they walked out of the villa.
The manor’s courtyard was spacious, providing more than enough room for Ali to practice and refine her Skills.
If she needed to study and think, there was a small pavilion nearby where she could sit and rest.
As for Lin Mo, he left the manor and first made a trip to the Adventurer’s Association.
He didn’t need to take on any major tasks, but daily quests like Goblin subjugation were still worth accepting.
It was easy work anyway, and he could earn a little extra money.
He could also increase his completed task count.
Lin Mo wasn’t satisfied with just reaching Bronze Level Adventurer; he was determined to keep climbing the ranks.
The difficulty of advancing from Bronze Level to Silver Level was naturally much greater than reaching Bronze in the first place.
First, the hard requirement for strength was to become Senior Level, meaning a Professional Level of 6 or higher. Then, you needed to complete a total of 50 tasks of E Level or higher, including at least ten D Level Tasks and at least one C Level Task.
Generally speaking, many Senior Level Professionals found it difficult to meet these conditions.
The C Level Task alone was a roadblock for many.
The difficulty of C Level Tasks was a huge step up from D Level. For example, the [Heart of Red Flame] task Lin Mo had seen back in Roland Town was a C Level Task. The objective was to hunt the Lord Level Demon, the Red Flame Tiger King, in the Core Area of Loran Forest!
This wasn’t something an ordinary Senior Level Professional could accomplish. You would need to be at least Level 9 or 10 and bring along an entire Senior Level Adventurer Squad.
Posting a task like that in Roland Town was basically just for show; no one could complete it.
Even in Silver Stream City, C Level Tasks were the absolute limit, and very few people could complete them.
Even Flora, who had reached Elite Level, was only a Silver Level Adventurer.
He shook his head. ’I shouldn’t get ahead of myself. First, I need to grind out those 50 tasks.’
Since he had no one to go out with for the next couple of days, he would use these daily Goblin subjugation tasks to pad his numbers.
After accepting a quest to kill 100 Goblins, Lin Mo headed straight for Loran Forest.
After his strength had increased to a certain point, he had rarely spent much time in the outer area of Loran Forest.
So when he saw the Ordinary Goblins, he couldn’t help but feel a little nostalgic.
There was a time when these creatures, while not formidable enemies, had at least posed a certain threat to him.
But now, killing them was as easy as crushing an ant.
[Punching Fist]!
Lin Mo strode forward and threw a punch, sending the lead Goblin’s head flying.
Then, he drew a dagger from his waist and, without even needing to turn, executed a reverse-grip [Backstab], sinking it precisely into another Goblin’s neck.
[Punching Fist] Skill Proficiency +1
[Backstab] Skill Proficiency +1
’Just like that. Make sure to grind proficiency from every single Goblin. No waste.’
The Skills Lin Mo planned to focus on were [Punching Fist] and [Continuous Thrust] from the Warrior Class; [Backstab] and [Shadow Assault] from the Assassin Class; and also [Flaming Arrow] and [Wind Blade Skill] from the Mage Class.
