As the advanced version of [Flaming Arrow], it was, as expected, a single-target skill. Just like [Flaming Arrow], it could apply a "Burning" effect, but it also came with an additional Piercing characteristic.

’Compared to my two previous Excellence Level Skills, [Flame Linked Stars] and [Blizzard], this one seems rather unremarkable, almost Ordinary. But its single-point breakthrough capability is far beyond what the other two can offer.’

Lin Mo took a closer look. Both Evolutionary Directions offered a simple and direct power boost, just with different focuses. One enhanced the damage-over-time Burning effect, while the other further improved its Piercing performance.

Without much hesitation, Lin Mo directly chose Evolutionary Path 2.

’The strength of [Flaming Spear] lies in its single-target damage and armor-breaking capability, not its damage-over-time.’ Lin Mo wasn’t a Mage with a limited number of skills; he didn’t need to compensate for his weaknesses. Instead, he should focus on amplifying his skills’ strengths.

As for other situations, he had other skills to handle them.

[Spiral Wind Vortex] Level 1 (0/10): Consumes Magic Power to resonate with the Wind Element, forming a Wind Vortex with a powerful and continuous pull. Deals a small amount of Wind Element damage to affected enemies. Targets pulled by the Wind Vortex will take an additional 10% damage from Ice, Flame, and Thunder Elements.

"Interesting."

This skill was even more interesting. Compared to a damage-dealing skill like [Flaming Spear], [Spiral Wind Vortex] clearly emphasized utility.

Its raw damage output might not be ideal, perhaps not even matching Landon’s [Wind Roll Skill], but it was far superior in terms of its pulling power and utility.

’Powerful pull, continuous pull...’ These words highlighted the skill’s core function: grouping monsters.

For Lin Mo, who already possessed area-of-effect (AOE) skills, this was extremely useful. For example, combining [Blizzard] with this [Spiral Wind Vortex] would be like a giant meat grinder, continuously dragging surrounding monsters into the "Blizzard."

Not to mention, the skill also had a very powerful additional effect: a damage vulnerability effect for Ice, Flame, and Thunder Elements.

This elemental vulnerability was a different concept from Elemental Affinity. For example, let’s say Lin Mo already had 30% Fire Element Affinity. If he were to add another 10%, he wouldn’t reach 40% due to diminishing returns. And even a 40% Fire Element Affinity would not be as good as 30% Fire Element Affinity combined with 10% damage vulnerability.

The reason was simple, referencing the concept of separate multiplicative damage buckets from certain games. With 40% Elemental Affinity, the final skill power would be 1 x 1.4, which equals 1.4. However, with 30% Elemental Affinity plus 10% damage vulnerability, the skill’s power would be 1 x 1.3 x 1.1, which equals 1.43.

The higher the stacked Elemental Affinity, the greater the relative boost from damage vulnerability, and vice versa.

This made Lin Mo even more eager to see the skill’s Evolutionary Path choices.

Lin Mo was momentarily caught in a dilemma. Both Evolutionary Paths enhanced the skill’s utility, and both were quite useful.

In the end, Lin Mo still chose Evolutionary Path 2.

Evolutionary Path 1, Traction, increased the skill’s pulling power by 25%—a straight 25% boost.

Evolutionary Path 2, on the other hand, seemed to only offer an additional 5% damage vulnerability. But considering the original effect was only 10%, an extra 5% was, for this skill, effectively a 50% increase in the effect’s potency.

’Besides, for a target that couldn’t be pulled before, a 25% increase might still not be enough to move it. Compared to that, the concrete damage boost is more practical and has broader utility.’
