Hu Yan paused, subconsciously running through a list of everyone who might know. But he quickly understood. He’d been frequently visiting his private residence these last two days; his grandfather had probably heard it from the attendants.

Hu Yan looked at his grandfather frankly and admitted, "Yes."

Hearing his admission, a smile instantly appeared on his grandfather’s face. He clapped Hu Yan’s shoulder and said earnestly, "You’ve always been a boy with your own ideas. Your mother and I used to worry you would end up dying alone. I never expected you to find someone for yourself first. I didn’t believe it when they told me, but since you’ve even brought her to your private residence, it shows you like her very much. Good, very good. Bring her home for a meal when you have time."

Hu Yan’s expression unconsciously softened. "Alright. I’ll bring her back when I have time."

Seeing Hu Yan’s expression relax and soften as he spoke of the female, his grandfather knew he truly had her in his heart. That was the only reason such a look would appear on its own. The smile on the old man’s face became much kinder.

Hu Yan was a good child in every way, but he tended to overthink things. He looked warm and good-tempered, but in reality, very few people could truly reach his heart.

But now that he had brought a female to live in his private residence, ’I’ll probably be holding a great-grandchild soon.’

Besides, he had met this female during his time of crisis. Although she couldn’t provide him with the support that a daughter from a noble family could, as long as Hu Yan liked her and there were no issues with her character, nothing else really mattered.

’Still, I should have someone properly investigate her later.’

The two walked out of the palace, one after the other.

Meanwhile, Yue Junxiao, who had just come from the newlywed chambers, suddenly had a flash of inspiration. After sneaking a glance at Sang Mo out of the corner of his eye, he leaned in to whisper in Yan Yichen’s ear.

Yue Junxiao said something shocking. "Do you think the reason the Wife-Master dislikes Sang Mo so much is because he has no fur?"

Although he had intentionally lowered his voice, they were all walking close together. Not only did Sang Mo hear him, but Bai Zhi heard him as well.

"PFFT—COUGH COUGH COUGH..."

Hearing Yue Junxiao’s words, Bai Zhi choked on her own saliva.

The others also glanced, intentionally or not, toward Sang Mo.

However, Sang Mo’s expression was now beyond dark. His entire face was thunderous, giving off the feeling of a storm about to break.

His jaw was clenched tight, and his gaze on Bai Zhi was terrifyingly grim.

A chill ran down Bai Zhi’s spine under his gaze. She instinctively looked up and met Sang Mo’s dark, piercing eyes, which made her shiver.

’Yue Junxiao is trying to get me killed!!’

’That was all the original host’s doing!! Not me!!!’

’It’s true I don’t really like snakes, but I’m not afraid of him when he’s in human form!!’

’But to humiliate Sang Mo like this in front of so many people... Yue Junxiao must really want me dead!!’

Zelda also sized up Sang Mo with a look of amusement. ’So that’s the inside story. If that’s really the case, it looks like Hu Yan has one less rival, and a non-threatening one at that.’

Yue Junxiao, still unaware of the shockwaves his words had caused, just felt a chill run down his back. He glanced at the sky and said, "Doesn’t it feel a bit chilly? Why do I feel a little cold?"

Yan Yichen followed his gaze and took in the weather. It was sunny and quite warm. "No, not at all."

Everyone present: "..."

Yue Junxiao belatedly noticed that Sang Mo’s expression didn’t seem right. "What’s wrong with Sang Mo now? Why the long face?"

Just then, Sang Mo strode past the crowd with a grim face, stopped in front of Bai Zhi, and asked in a low voice, "Afraid of me? You don’t like me?"

The expression on Bai Zhi’s face was a bit stiff. She stammered, "N-No."

But Sang Mo didn’t believe her at all. The next second, he hoisted Bai Zhi onto his shoulder and walked off briskly.

Sang Mo’s action took everyone by surprise. Zelda and Lang Qiu reacted quickly and gave chase.

Seeing their Wife-Master being carried away, Yue Junxiao and Yan Yichen didn’t have time to think and also followed after them.

Zelda was an SS-level superpower user. Although he had just entered the SS-level, he was not to be underestimated. Back then, Hu Yan had been at the Peak of SS Level, strong enough to sweep aside any SS-level opponent.

Hu Yan had entrusted Bai Zhi’s protection to him. He couldn’t let anyone harm her, not even her own Beast Husband.

Zelda quickly moved to block Sang Mo, frowning. "Put her down."

Moving swiftly, Sang Mo ran even farther with Bai Zhi on his shoulder. Zelda didn’t dare to make a move, afraid he might hurt Bai Zhi.

Slung over his shoulder, his bone dug into her stomach. With her head hanging upside down, her stomach churned relentlessly. Her face pale, she patted Sang Mo. "Put... put me down... I’m... I’m gonna... puke..."

Hearing this, Sang Mo ran faster, heading into Hu Yan’s private residence.

Lang Qiu caught up, grabbing his arm. With a serious expression, he asked, "Sang Mo! What are you doing?! The Wife-Master didn’t say anything! That was just Jun Xiao’s guess, don’t take it seriously."

Sang Mo’s face was grim. He sneered, "I just want to get intimate with my Wife-Master. Why are you all trying to stop me? What are you afraid of?"

Lang Qiu replied, "We have no right to interfere if you want to be intimate with the Wife-Master, but you need her consent. She’s pale from being carried like that. Put her down first."

Yue Junxiao caught up, fuming. He overheard most of their conversation and knew his words had caused Sang Mo to act this way. He immediately shouted, "Sang Mo, if you have a problem, take it out on me! Don’t hurt the Wife-Master!"

Bai Zhi patted Sang Mo’s back. After a long moment of staring down the others, Sang Mo finally put her down.

The moment her feet touched the ground, Bai Zhi stumbled a couple of steps to the side, grabbing onto a flowering vine and dry-heaving.

"BLEGH—"

Sang Mo’s actions had truly made her see stars; she had been on the verge of throwing up.

Her reaction drew the attention of every Beastman present.

Yan Yichen immediately rushed over. He patted her back while pulling a bottle of water from his spatial storage and handing it to her, his eyes filled with worry. "Wife-Master, are you alright?"

Bai Zhi dry-heaved one more time before shaking her head. "I’m fine. His shoulder just dug into my stomach. It’s a little uncomfortable."

After a while, Bai Zhi recovered. Yan Yichen wanted to help support her, but she waved her hand, refusing.

Bai Zhi walked up to Sang Mo and said seriously, "I’m not afraid of you. But it’s true that I’m not very fond of snakes. I’ll try my best to change."

She thought for a moment, then added, "Actually, being cool and refreshing in the summer should be quite nice. It’s just that it might be a bit cold in the winter."

Hearing this, Sang Mo just stared at her with his dark eyes, his expression unreadable, making it impossible to tell if he believed her or not.
