Chapter 429 - 221: Witness: Root Source (Part 3)
Even if he tried to retrace his steps, Lu Cang couldn’t guarantee he’d find this exact cave again. It seemed the depths and even the space within the Secret Sea were constantly changing.
"Hmm... alright."
Lu Luwei hesitated for a moment but still respected Lu Cang’s decision.
’It seems I’m starting to understand why Lu Cang is so strong.’
’I have no idea where he finds all these strange places... They seem like incredible opportunities, though.’
’If he’s always exploring mysterious places like this...’
’...then it’s no wonder his power has grown by leaps and bounds.’
Lu Cang walked into the Teleportation Channel.
As he passed through the channel, he felt his Spirituality flare with extreme activity!
Lu Cang followed the pull of his Spirituality and looked up at the sky!
There, he saw... an incredibly brilliant sun that filled more than half the sky!
At the same time, he also saw the backdrop of the heavens—it was like an endless expanse of clouds, yet he could see through them to a bright, radiant sky beyond.
His vision was filled with impossibly exaggerated colors.
The lines between light and shadow were stark and distinct!
The colors of everything were vivid to an indescribable degree. His Perception became incredibly sensitive and active. Simply sweeping his Perception across an object felt as if the object itself was touching his skin, a sensation as keen as a tendril’s touch.
Every sensation was heightened to an extreme.
Lu Cang raised his hand and conjured his Magic—
WHOOSH!
A Flame took shape in his palm. Within it, Lu Cang saw an invisible Fire Core burning intensely!
’A Fire Core?’
A sudden thought struck Lu Cang.
He whipped his head around, looking toward another part of the sky.
There, he saw a ring like a black hole, swirling high in the sky!
It was just like the object that had appeared in the sky when he’d completed his advancement to Mage!
’The Root Source?’
That was the only thought left in Lu Cang’s mind.
A roar filled his mind.
WHOOSH—
A gentle breeze, the small blades of grass, the woods... the wind rustled through everything, creating a soft, whispering sound.
Lu Cang stood frozen, staring up at the void.
...
"Lu Cang?"
"Lu Cang."
"Lu Cang!"
A dissonant sensation washed over his body—a feeling of weightlessness, yet at the same time, a groggy heaviness.
"Hey!"
Lu Cang snapped back to his senses to see Lu Luwei’s face extremely close to his own.
’The pre-enactment.’
’It’s over.’
"Ah... Lu Luwei," Lu Cang said.
Seeing that Lu Cang had finally reacted, Lu Luwei seemed to let out a breath she’d been holding.
Lu Luwei asked, "What just happened? I kept calling you, but you didn’t react at all."
"Sorry, I was just lost in thought."
Lu Luwei’s voice rose. "Lost in thought? What could you possibly be thinking about so hard that you’d be unresponsive for a whole minute?"
’A whole minute?’
’Was I really out of it for that long?’
’I was just pre-enacting today’s events. I entered the Realm of Secret Knowledge...’
’The last thing I saw...’
Lu Cang suddenly recalled the massive void. It was like a black hole, with a faint halo of light around its outer layer, but the light only served to define its edge.
It was impossible to peer even slightly inside.
After seeing it...
...the pre-enactment ended, and Lu Luwei woke me.
’What happened?’
’It seems... I was trying to comprehend it. I tried with all my might, every cell in my body, every single thought straining to understand.’
’In the end, all thought simply... stopped.’
’Unimaginable, incomprehensible... I fell into an infinite loop.’
’If that’s what happened...’
’...what’s the difference between that and being dead?’
A wave of lingering fear washed over Lu Cang.
’It’s a good thing I wasn’t there in person. Otherwise, who knows what would have happened to me.’
’This world is way too dangerous, isn’t it?’
’This Secret Sea has already killed me twice now.’
’Thank goodness it was only a pre-enactment.’
’Besides, it seems that after returning from a pre-enactment, even though I retain the memories, my spiritual state doesn’t change much. It doesn’t seem to have too deep of an impact on me.’
’Perhaps this is what the study of the soul calls the doctrine of inseparable gnosis.’
’Anything that causes trauma to the Spirit and Mind must also inflict deep damage upon the soul.’
’But when I return, the damage to my soul isn’t retained.’
’Therefore, my condition mostly recovers.’
"Lu Cang, are you really okay?"
Lu Cang smiled back at Lu Luwei. "I’m fine."
"Oh... that’s good then."
"Seeing how strong your Recovery Ability is, I guess there wouldn’t be any major issues anyway."
"Right, what exactly did you want me to come here for?"
Lu Cang shook his head. "It’s nothing special, really. I just wanted you to take a walk with me."
"The Secret Sea is about to be destroyed. I wanted to see it a few more times."
