Chapter 430 - 222: Yuna’s Heart
When he saw that Root Source, his Final Sense hadn’t given him any warning.
It was as if it didn’t consider it dangerous at all.
Lu Cang felt his Spirituality had become much clearer, and he had developed a deeper understanding of Magic.
’It shouldn’t be long before I comprehend my own Tier Four Root Magic.’
This just went to show.
Even with so many Divine Talents, you couldn’t just go looking for trouble.
’Sure enough, a Level 4 Reincarnator should just stick to his Level 4 comfort zone.’
’If I run around all over the place...’
’...who knows what kind of weird things I might stumble into.’
’I’m definitely unbeatable by those of the same tier, but I can still be crushed by someone of a higher level.’
’Being powerful within a small tier isn’t the same as being truly invincible.’
’I should just knuckle down and figure out how to level up.’
’High levels are king.’
’Once things settle down, I’m going to hunker down in some dark corner and grind. I absolutely won’t run around stirring up trouble...’
’I’ll stay in seclusion until I hit Level 9, then I’ll go out and suppress the Ten Thousand Realms.’
’Sigh.’
’If only trouble wouldn’t come looking for me on its own.’
’My strength was already unmatched in Ruelun, and my life had stabilized. I could have spent my time researching the Root Source and solving a few mysteries.’
’Even without any lucky breaks, and with my leveling speed slowing down, I could have probably taken it easy and still reached Level 6 in a year or two.’
’Given my growth rate, my overall strength at Level 6 shouldn’t be any weaker than Iz’s.’
’Iz can defeat Level 8 Mages, so I should be able to handle some Level 8 Reincarnators myself.’
’That would basically make me invincible below Level 9...’
’Ah, whatever.’
’I’ll deal with it when it happens. I’ll just become a hermit then.’
’I’ll be like the protagonist in one of those longevity stories, just lying low for a century or so... If I still can’t break through my realm after a hundred years, then I’ll think about going on an adventure.’
...
In the early hours of the morning, he and Lu Luwei were at the seaside, enjoying the last moments of the Secret Sea’s tranquility.
Lu Luwei asked him about the past few days.
Things like where he had gone and what he had been doing...
Even if Lu Luwei hadn’t asked, Lu Cang had already concocted a plausible explanation for everything.
So, Lu Cang naturally relayed the story he’d fabricated to Lu Luwei.
Lu Luwei listened to the story of his travels.
She seemed a bit envious...
"Next time you go out exploring, why don’t you take me with you."
That was what she said.
’But... Lu Luwei, how am I supposed to bring you along?’
’You’re too slow. I might be fast now...’
’...but those are all Magic spells only I can use. There’s no way for me to carry you while flying.’
’If I brought you along, my speed would be drastically reduced.’
’I definitely wouldn’t be able to make the round trip so quickly.’
However, Lu Cang didn’t say this out loud, just promising Lu Luwei, "Next time, for sure."
’If I let Lu Luwei know I think she’s too slow... I’m afraid she’d be chasing and shooting at me the entire way home.’
...
After returning home and getting some sleep, he woke up.
Lu Cang then headed for the White Tower.
Yuna glanced out of the corner of her eye at the boy beside her. "And you are?"
Lu Cang said, "Yuna, is there any need to pretend you don’t know me?"
He pulled up a stool and sat down beside her.
Yuna clutched her book, turned away from him, and said flatly, "You’ve already figured out Chronology."
"There’s no need for you to learn anything else, is there?"
’She’s still sulking, huh?’
"Yuna, actually, the reason I was away was to bring back some other rare books."
Lu Cang waved his hand.
A pile of books materialized on the table.
"These are all rare editions you can’t find in Ruelun or the White Tower, you know."
Yuna’s gaze fell upon the pile of books on the table.
Lu Cang continued, "It took me a lot of effort to get these... Yuna, you know that something big is about to happen in the Secret Sea, right?"
"I thought it would be a terrible shame if all this knowledge was lost, with no one to carry it on."
"So, I went to bring back these books that might otherwise have been lost forever."
...
Yuna looked stunned for a moment after hearing Lu Cang’s explanation.
Then she hid her small face behind her book.
"Really...? Is that true?"
Lu Cang continued, "Of course."
"Learning isn’t just about reading, right? Practical experience is also very important."
"For example, to study Demonology, you naturally have to hunt a few Demons yourself to understand their specific anatomy."
"So, this trip was also about figuring some things out for myself."
’Right, figuring out what kind of treasures were in the vaults of those Churches.’
’That counts as figuring things out, I guess.’
Hearing Lu Cang’s story, Yuna looked down at the book in her hands.
Lu Cang sensed that her mood, which had just started to brighten, was suddenly becoming downcast.
Yuna lowered her head. "Mhm, Lu Cang... we’re really different."
"After all, you’re one of the strongest people on the continent... There must be so many things you have to do."
"I’m just a child who was born in the White Tower."
"The only thing I like... is reading about this amazing world in books."
Yuna slowly put down the book she was holding, *Sea and Mystery*.
This was about Oceanography, Yuna’s favorite subject.
Lu Cang remembered that when he first met Yuna, the subject she’d scored full marks on during the assessment was Oceanography. This meant her mastery of the subject was equivalent to a Mage comprehending their Root Source.
A very deep comprehension, at that.
Yuna stroked the book, a hint of frustration in her otherwise calm eyes.
It was the same look she’d had during the White Tower assessment, back when he had beaten her to take first place.
