Chapter 473: Juna Cuts the Foreign Sun
Juna reached the palace roof before Concord closed the upper stair, and through the relay ring Hajin saw the first sight waiting above Alder, a sun that did not belong there.
The false sun hung as a flat disk of foreign light, its thin rays descending into the roof and entering roots that still carried Concord’s signal.
Juna opened her four Wings against the wind and said, "The voice built a sky above the palace, so the roots below aren’t its only roads anymore."
Hajin’s voice reached her through the relay ring as he answered, "Don’t cut the disk until Eirwen identifies which rays are foreign and which hold evacuation paths."
Juna looked through the clear bark and saw three green routes below, each carrying people toward the lower archive beneath the gray network.
She replied, "I can see the green paths, though foreign rays have wrapped around them, and a wide strike would cut both sides."
Eirwen’s voice entered the relay and said, "Use Daybreak Path as a thread rather than a blade, then sever the foreign lines at their entry points."
Juna raised one hand toward the false sun and answered, "I can cut each relay, though the palace must keep the branches still while the paths pass through them."
Eirwen replied, "The branches will hold if the gray voice stays away from the people, so make every cut precise enough to spare living roots."
The false sun sent its first pulse through the roof, and a gray ray struck the nearest green branch beneath Juna’s feet.
Juna drew Daybreak Path as a thin gold line from her palm to the roof’s edge, keeping it narrow enough to avoid the bark below.
She guided the light along the foreign ray until it reached the point where gray entered the root, then cut across that point with one controlled motion.
The relay snapped without an explosion, leaving one fewer ray on the false sun while the green branch stayed bright.
Aria displayed a notice near Juna’s shoulder:
[Aerial foreign relay identified, precision severance valid, living branch preserved]
Hajin heard her report the message and thought, ’The palace doesn’t need a stronger strike,’ while she held the light steady, ’because it needs someone willing to stop at living wood.’
The gray disk rotated, and two new rays descended from opposite sides before Juna returned Daybreak Path to her hand.
She folded her left Wing, shifted beneath the first ray, and used the second Wing to draw a shorter path across the roof.
One cut removed the western ray from its branch, while the second severed the line above the old bell tower without touching bark.
The false sun trembled, and the gray voice entered the roof around Juna in a calm, even tone:
[One mind sees every threat, one answer prevents every hesitation]
Juna held the light in her palm and answered, "A mind that sees every threat still needs someone to decide whether its answer harms the people it claims to save."
The voice pressed through the disk:
[Separate judgment delays rescue]
Juna looked toward the roof stairs where two junior keepers waited behind a root screen and said, "Separate judgment notices the person beneath the strike, which your answer keeps forgetting."
Four foreign rays dropped around the roof, each aimed at a different green branch below.
Hajin’s relay carried his warning as he said, "You can’t cut four lines with one path without opening the wider form."
Juna opened her third Wing and replied, "Then I will use four short paths, because control doesn’t require one motion to solve every problem."
Daybreak Path divided into four narrow threads across the roof, each one carrying a separate gold pulse.
The first crossed the northern ray, the second slipped beneath the eastern line, the third passed between roots, and the fourth curved around the bell tower.
Juna cut the threads in sequence, and foreign rays fell away from the green branches without gray sparks reaching the people below.
Below the roof, the three green routes brightened in turn, and each evacuation group reached the archive before the next gray relay could find a living branch.
Juna kept her eyes on the false sun and said, "Every line has a target beneath it, so the roof matters only because people are standing below."
The false sun dimmed, though the disk held together because a deeper relay remained inside the roof’s central crown.
Eirwen’s voice entered the relay and said, "The central ray feeds palace command grammar through the crown instead of entering one branch."
Juna studied the living roof and answered, "The cut must pass through the crown without touching its memory, and the path has less room there."
Hajin said, "Wait until the crown exposes the foreign seam, because an early cut could release gray pressure into the archive."
Juna lowered her hand as a slow pulse crossed the crown, revealing a dark line beneath the living bark.
Daybreak Path narrowed into one gold thread and traveled from Juna’s palm toward the exposed seam.
The foreign voice pressed against the thread, offering every branch one clean pattern with no frightened keeper left outside its answer.
For one breath, Juna saw the vision of a palace without hesitation, then remembered the junior keepers choosing to remain together without surrendering thought.
She said, "A clean pattern isn’t worth the people it erases."
The gold thread passed through the seam, and the central relay broke without sound as the false sun opened like a dark flower.
Foreign rays withdrew from the palace roof, while gray pressure fell toward the branches and Eirwen’s three routes turned it into empty upper roots.
Juna kept Daybreak Path open until the final relay faded, then let the light return through her Wings.
The roof went dark except for ordinary Alder lamps, and wind moved across the living bark without carrying a foreign command.
Aria displayed a final aerial notice beside Juna’s shoulder:
[Foreign aerial relay network severed, divine relay count reconciled, no living branch destroyed]
Hajin’s voice reached her and said, "The palace remains compromised below, though the voice has lost the sky that bypassed the evacuation routes."
Juna folded her third Wing and replied, "Then Eirwen has time to keep the people separate, and I have no reason to turn a successful cut into a display."
The false sun collapsed into a thin gray thread above the roof, pulling toward the distant mountains before breaking into harmless dust.
Aria displayed two records beside Juna after the final relay fell:
[Legitimate contribution confirmed, 1,500,000 EXP]
[Juna EXP, 1,720,000 / 37,500,000]
Hajin watched her read the records through the relay and thought, ’The reward belongs to the relay she severed,’ as she lowered her hand, ’though the restraint belongs to everyone beneath it.’
Eirwen’s voice returned through the relay and said, "You preserved every branch while removing the authority above, so the Court will record precision rather than force."
Juna looked toward the archive and answered, "Record the living first, because my number means little if the people beneath it had nowhere to go."
Hajin said, "The routes remain open, though the voice remains inside the palace."
Juna kept watch above Alder, eyes on the mountains where the broken thread vanished while the separate green routes held below.
