Chapter 1410 - 366: Requiem XVI
Torrential rain poured down as the black hole dragged the Long-Horned Demon heading for Brando back into the River of Sulfur before disappearing completely. The two remaining Long-Horned Demons struggled to climb up from the ground, while Brando also stood up from the muddy water. At that moment, Antitina’s voice suddenly rang out:
"Lord, the first node is directly above the Teleportation Gate, while the other two are on the pedestal!" The noble lady was somewhat excited.
Brando steadied his mind, Antitina’s speed greatly exceeded his expectations—faster than anticipated. He immediately issued a command to Char through the mind connection: "Char, the connection points of the Teleportation Gate and Space Law are directly above the gate and on the pedestals to either side!"
"Got it."
Char turned back and passed this command to the nearby Curiosity Seeker ’Gallock’. The Knights of Lantoniyan immediately surrounded them, with two wizards, one old and one young, simultaneously raising their hands. Two beams of green light pierced through the rain, traversing the entire battlefield to hit the Teleportation Gate.
They seemed like two dazzling spears, and where the spears struck, the halo of the Teleportation Gate immediately radiated the brightest light. That light rippled out like water waves, the golden-red teleportation circle trembled, and the glow quickly dimmed.
It just needed one more hit.
The two Long-Horned Demons were startled; if these humans managed to destroy even one Teleportation Gate, the arrival of their subsequent army at this port would be delayed by a time unknown. They could fully imagine themselves being eternally tormented by the Lord for their failure.
Demons find joy in inflicting pain, but when that pain descends upon themselves, it’s not as delightful. The Long-Horned Demons were fully awake, the bloody scent on Brando didn’t seem as enticing to them anymore, and they instantly turned to charge at the Knights of Lantoniyan.
To these Elementally Enlightened monsters, a three to four hundred-meter distance on the battlefield was merely the blink of an eye, with countless Little Demons and Hellhounds ahead to block them. If they wished, they were certain they could intervene before Char and Gallock cast another spell.
But how could Brando let them have their way? Hadn’t he been trembling here for so long precisely to buy time?
He immediately launched a charge, like an arrow released from a bow, shooting towards one of the Long-Horned Demons. Brando aimed at the back of that creature, slashing directly with his sword. The demon dared not take it head-on, and had to turn around, using a claw to sweep aside Brando’s sword blade.
Yet this pause trapped it completely in Brando’s entanglement.
Brando’s longsword was deflected to the side, and he stepped forward, using the sword hilt to deliver a fierce blow to the demon’s belly. The Long-Horned Demon grunted, stepping back, but Brando pressed on, retrieving the sword blade with a reverse hand, slashing horizontally towards the demon’s belly.
The Long-Horned Demon neither dodged nor avoided, allowing the sword blade to cut into its belly, the skin tearing like rolled meat, seemingly unfazed by pain, and striking back with a claw straight at Brando. Its claw aimed directly for Brando’s heart at the back, thinking that if the opponent didn’t retreat, it would result in death, while it would at most be seriously injured.
Nonetheless, it didn’t think Brando was that foolish; after a dozen rounds with this human, Brando left it with the impression of being weak yet cunning. What it feared even more was the opponent’s secret weapon, that one thing capable of banishing it back to the River of Sulfur. Though a demon doesn’t face death, being banished isn’t without loss either; they would fall into a long period of weakness, and if discovered by other demons at that time, they’d surely be devoured.
So to a demon, injury and banishment are essentially equivalent to annihilation.
It didn’t wish to recklessly fight Brando, only hoping to force him to retreat. But the Long-Horned Demon never imagined in its wildest dreams that Brando didn’t retreat a single step, taking its strike head-on.
It clearly felt the sensation of its claw piercing into the opponent’s body, the feeling of sharp talons separating biological flesh, typically a delightful feeling for demons. Yet at that moment, the Long-Horned Demon felt only fear and anxiety.
Because Brando had evidently actively stepped forward, avoiding the heart, making its claw pierce only the opponent’s lungs. With its level of intelligence, it would never assume Brando accidentally stumbled onto its firing range.
The opponent was clearly premeditated.𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
