Chapter 62: Crino Prairie 6
After all, Moira Lynch was only after things that others had discarded.
The Leonin quickly replied, even granting her permission to take anything she found inside.
After receiving a positive response, Moira Lynch was visibly delighted. While the others were still busy, she headed toward the warehouses.
By the time Shane Rhodes and Kai York noticed, she was long gone.
She opened the first warehouse and stepped inside. As the door slowly swung shut behind her, the overhead lights flickered on.
Moira was immediately confronted by a square metal box that came up to about her thigh.
The entire warehouse was packed to the brim with these boxes, leaving her no room to move forward.
Judging by the thick layer of dust on them, the boxes had been stored here for a very long time.
The door was closed behind her, and a metal wall of boxes stood before her. Moira Lynch was stuck in place; it was difficult to even turn around. If she wanted to go deeper into the warehouse, her only option was to move the boxes in front of her.
For Moira Lynch, this was a piece of cake.
After moving the first layer of boxes, she found more of the same, all densely and neatly packed.
All these metal boxes made Moira Lynch extremely curious about what was inside.
She examined a box closely and found a string of code on its side.
’Patience, what is this code?’
"This is the fifth-generation External Skeleton Armor developed by the Beastkin Conglomerate. However, their research on External Skeleton Armor has already reached the tenth generation, making these obsolete."
Moira Lynch didn’t even hear the last part of Patience’s explanation. All she cared about was that these were External Skeleton Armor. Fifth generation, tenth generation—it didn’t matter to her.
This stuff was far more valuable than food.
Moira Lynch expanded her spiritual power to its maximum, trying to collect all the External Skeleton Armor in the warehouse as quickly as possible. After all, this was only the first warehouse; several more were waiting for her.
By the time she had cleared out the warehouse, her spiritual power was somewhat depleted. The metal boxes might not have looked large, but they were incredibly heavy.
Only now, with the space cleared, could Moira Lynch see how large the warehouse truly was. She estimated it to be about five or six hundred square meters.
She sincerely hoped the next few warehouses were just as large. Of course, she wouldn’t mind if they were even bigger.
After resting for ten minutes, Moira Lynch went to the next warehouse. She opened the door, stepped inside, and closed it behind her.
As the overhead lights flickered on, the contents of the warehouse were revealed.
It wasn’t more External Skeleton Armor.
’According to Patience, the External Skeleton Armor is already on its tenth generation. If the fifth was obsolete, then the sixth and seventh should be too.’
’It seemed her thinking had been too naive.’
However, the items in this warehouse seemed even older than those in the last one. The proof was in the dust, which was much thicker here.
They were still packed in boxes, but these containers were far more haphazardly arranged than the previous ones.
She wiped the dust from one of the boxes and opened it. Inside was a pile of small, palm-sized discs, similar to yo-yos.
Moira Lynch picked up one of the discs and asked Patience what it was.
"According to my analysis, this is a first-generation Space Button. It has an internal space of only one square meter and a limited number of uses. It becomes useless after about fifty uses."
’Okay, I take it back. The stuff in this warehouse is every bit as valuable as the External Skeleton Armor.’
In addition to the first-generation models, she also found second and third-generation Space Buttons.
After she had stored all the Space Buttons away, a large section of the warehouse was instantly cleared.
’Patience, don’t tell me the Beastkin Conglomerate developed these Space Buttons too?’
"That’s correct. However, the Beastkin Conglomerate only developed them up to the third generation. They were unable to overcome certain technical issues and sold the patent to the Nebula Group. The Space Buttons currently used throughout the galaxy are all their creations."
’I’m curious, what’s the maximum capacity for a Space Button?’
"The Nebula Group offers private customization services. As long as you have the money, any size is possible."
"..."
Continuing her search of the warehouse, Moira Lynch discovered it was full of obsolete interstellar technology.
’The Beastkin Conglomerate really dabbled in everything.’
"First-generation temperature-regulating clothes. They can maintain a constant body temperature in extreme environments ranging from seventy degrees to negative seventy degrees Celsius. Must be paired with a Temperature Regulating Helmet."
At first, whenever she encountered something new, Moira Lynch was interested enough to let Patience explain it to her. But as time went on, she was in a hurry and eventually stopped looking, simply sweeping everything directly into her space.
The third and fourth warehouses were just for miscellaneous junk: half-finished nutrient liquids, Energy Bars, children’s toys, old magazines, unwearable clothes, and so on.
When Moira Lynch returned to the living room, the Leonin had just gotten back. Seeing his home looking brand new from the cleaning, he nodded in satisfaction.
After inspecting the place, he said, "You all did a good job."
With a wave of his hand, a robot emerged. "This is your payment," he said.
Just then, a middle-aged man pointed at Moira Lynch and said, "Esteemed Leonin, this person didn’t do any work at all! She doesn’t deserve your reward!"
The Leonin turned to Moira Lynch. "What is he saying?"
Moira Lynch’s expression remained neutral. "He’s saying he doesn’t work for payment, and that you’re insulting him by offering it."
The Leonin’s eyes widened. "There are actually people like that in this world?"
Moira Lynch kept smiling. "Of course. It’s a big world, full of all kinds of people."
The Leonin nodded. "I see. In that case, I certainly shouldn’t tarnish his noble character. I’ll give his payment to you instead. Is there anything else you want? You helped me clear out years of accumulated junk. You’ve earned it."
"Thank you."
Moira Lynch gave a subtle nod. "If it’s possible, I’d like a weapon for self-defense."
The Leonin glanced at Moira Lynch’s small frame and said in a low voice, "You really do need a weapon for self-defense. You look far too frail. A build like yours is very dangerous on the Crino Prairie."
Unable to understand the interstellar language, the other players could only watch as Moira Lynch and the Leonin chatted happily. Meanwhile, the man who had just tattled on her had a face ashen with rage.
