Chapter 87: Firing the Property Management

Moira Lynch stayed in her space for over an hour before she finally adapted to the speed of the Wind Speed Fruit.

’No wonder it specifically noted to use it in a wide-open area the first time. If I used this while trying to escape, I probably wouldn’t get away. A single misstep could get me killed.’

She left her space and turned on the TV. Many programs had stopped airing by now, but the news was still updated daily.

The government was still trying its best to maintain a semblance of normal life, preventing people from doing anything drastic out of sheer desperation.

"Experts have shown that smearing mud on your body can effectively lower body temperature and prevent heatstroke."

"Insect populations are increasing dramatically in all regions. We urge everyone not to leave trash piled up by their doors."

"Opened food supplies should be consumed immediately. It’s best not to leave them overnight."

"A newly opened bag of rice was found completely infested with bugs overnight!!"

While listening to the news, she began her daily workout.

The regimen Patience had designed for her trained both her physical fitness and her spiritual power simultaneously.

However, the exercise equipment from Caelus could no longer meet Moira Lynch’s needs. With the combined boost from the Bone Marrow Cleansing Fruit and the Enhancing Fruit, Moira’s progress was incredibly fast.

Now, she was using fitness equipment she had found at the Leonin’s home.

Not only that, but she also wore weights on her ankles, wrists, and waist. These were also interstellar products. They looked like simple bands, but their size and weight were freely adjustable up to a maximum of one hundred kilograms.

Moira Lynch thought about the Leonin’s physique. ’Lifting a couple hundred kilograms would probably be a breeze for him.’

She planned to wear them twenty-four hours a day to increase her strength.

Moira Lynch wasn’t quite used to them at first, but she gradually grew accustomed to the weights.

That evening, after Moira Lynch finished dinner, she was still wondering whether she should go out when her doorbell rang.

She opened the door to find Shane Rhodes and Kai York standing outside.

"What’s up?"

Kai York looked at Shane Rhodes next to him. "See? I was right. She really didn’t check the group chat."

Moira Lynch blinked. It was true she hadn’t looked at her phone much that day.

So she took out her phone, unlocked it, and saw the 99+ notifications from the homeowners’ group chat.

Moira Lynch opened it and skimmed through the messages.

Their residential complex was newly built, and many of the homes were still unoccupied. After the last incident, many people had learned how safe the complex was with so many players, and they wanted to move in.

This wasn’t really a problem. As long as they didn’t disturb anyone’s lives and followed the rules, it would be fine.

But some people were endlessly greedy. After enjoying the benefits of the complex, they actually took to the group chat to demand that other homeowners vacate their spare rooms for others to live in.

They even said they had already made arrangements and were just waiting for the current residents to clear out the rooms so the new people could move right in.

That really stirred up a hornet’s nest. These newcomers weren’t even qualified to buy property there in the first place. The only reason they were allowed to move in was because they were relatives of the property management staff, a fact the homeowners had tacitly accepted.

Things gradually grew more heated between the two sides, and when the property management staff stepped in and took sides, it lit the final fuse.

Moira Lynch scrolled straight to the bottom of the chat history to see the outcome.

The end result was that all the original homeowners unanimously decided to fire the property management. The staff and their families were all kicked out.

Seeing this, Moira Lynch was stunned. All this had happened just because she hadn’t checked her phone for a day.

’Come to think of it, I did notice a group of people leaving the complex this afternoon.’

The temperature was starting to drop at the time, so Moira Lynch just assumed they were going out to buy resources and didn’t pay it any mind.

"Without property management, who’s going to watch the gate?" Moira Lynch asked.

Shane Rhodes said, "We only fired the management. The security guards are still here."

Moira Lynch nodded. "That’s a relief." Then she looked at the equipment behind them. "But why did you come looking for me? And what’s with the bamboo baskets?"

Kai York scratched his head. "Well, since we fired the property management, we have to handle some things ourselves. The weather is scorching, and a lot of trees have been baked to death and then dried out by the sun. They’re a major fire hazard now."

Moira Lynch understood. They wanted her to help chop down trees.

Their complex had been planted with many trees and plants for beautification. Before the extreme heat, it wasn’t an issue, but now they were a potential fire hazard.

Moreover, there was a mountain next to their complex, which was also covered in trees.

The property management staff had done some cleanup before, but they usually only dealt with trees that were already dead, ignoring the rest.

Moira Lynch nodded. "No problem. I’ll go get my tools now."

That night, inside the complex, the homeowners grabbed their tools and began to work on the landscaping.

Some cleared away dried-up shrubs, while others started on the trees lining the paths.

After being baptized by the extreme heat, most of these trees were in a half-dead state. They weren’t dead yet, but they were close.

After this period of training and refinement, Moira Lynch’s body had grown much stronger, and her physical strength had increased significantly.

She hefted an axe, approached a tree near her house, and began chopping away with a series of heavy THWACKS. In just a short while, the tree fell with a crash.

These felled trees wouldn’t be casually discarded. They would be chopped into firewood, dried out, and stored in the empty houses for emergencies.

The gas supply had been cut off outside for some time now. Their complex was one of the rare places that still had gas, water, and electricity.

But there was no telling how long this situation would last, so they had to prepare in advance.

Although they said the water and power weren’t cut, the truth was that the complex was now basically self-sufficient.

The complex had solar power generators, and many of the players had awakened a Water Talent.

As for natural gas, you could cook just by taking a pot outside and letting it bake in the sun.

So this wood was truly for emergencies, since firewood was a resource in its own right.

While searching for another tree, Moira Lynch was suddenly drawn to a flash of white.

She walked over and saw a tree that had been dead for a long time. But that wasn’t the point. The point was that it was covered in white, plump, perfectly round mushrooms.

’For mushrooms to grow in such dry weather... and what’s more...’

Moira Lynch reached out and touched one. The mushroom felt very fresh, not at all like a dried-out husk.

She called out Patience’s name in her mind.

[Extremely Hot Mushroom: A mushroom that only grows in extremely hot environments. After consumption, the body will actively generate heat.]

[Note: Not recommended for consumption in environments where the average temperature exceeds thirty degrees Celsius. There is a high probability of scorching the internal organs, causing irreversible damage.]

Patience wasn’t even finished speaking when Moira Lynch already started picking them.
