From this height, Evan Fuller and Amber Sheridan could only make out a blurry shadow, but Perry Yates’s view was perfectly clear.
In her line of sight, a massive figure slowly emerged from the lake.
At first, Perry Yates thought it was a python—after all, its long, slender form really looked the part.
But she quickly realized her guess was wrong. It wasn’t a python at all, but a massive creature with a long neck.
"Plesiosaur!"
Perry Yates watched the massive figure emerge from the water. It looked exactly like the Plesiosaurs she had seen in dinosaur documentaries.
’No, wait. There are some differences.’ This Plesiosaur was much larger, and its features were slightly different, making it look even more ferocious.
As the Plesiosaur strode out of the lake, each step sent a heavy thud echoing across the ground.
Behind it, its massive tail swung relentlessly from side to side, leveling trees and terrain in its wake.
Its destructive power was staggering.
The Plesiosaur headed straight for the spot where the wild boar had been. Upon finding nothing there, it suddenly grew agitated.
It craned its long neck, opened its mouth, and unleashed a furious roar at the sky.
Whether by coincidence or design, the Plesiosaur’s roar was aimed directly at the trio’s location.
Luckily, Perry Yates reacted quickly enough, maneuvering Claudia Vance away from the spot just in time. Otherwise, the roar would have wrecked their eardrums.
Even so, the terrifying, enraged roar of the dinosaur was still heart-stopping.
Just when Perry Yates thought the Plesiosaur was only venting its frustration, its head suddenly snapped around and it charged their position again.
But this time, it wasn’t just roaring.
The Plesiosaur opened its jaws, and a ball of white energy began to gather within its mouth.
’This is bad!’
The next second, the energy blasted from the Plesiosaur’s mouth.
In that split second, without a moment’s hesitation, Perry Yates opened an Any Door directly beneath their feet, allowing them to narrowly escape the attack.
This time, Perry Yates was certain. The Plesiosaur had definitely seen them; that was why it had attacked them repeatedly.
Perry Yates led Evan Fuller and Amber Sheridan back down to the ground, where they took cover.
The Plesiosaur had lost its target, but it wasn’t about to give up. It fired several more beams of energy from its mouth, lighting up the night sky as if it were broad daylight.
Then, it lowered its long neck and seemed to bite down on something. When it raised its head again, a long, slender object was clamped in its jaws.
Perry Yates could see it clearly now: a snow-white python.
’Perry Yates had noticed that python before. She had even admired how beautiful it was and had planned on making it her prey for the next day.’
Perry watched as the Plesiosaur devoured the entire python as if it were a piece of jerky. But it still wasn’t satisfied and went on to find and eat several more.
Only when the sky began to lighten at dawn did the Plesiosaur, seemingly still not sated, return to the lake.
Only then did Perry Yates and the others cautiously emerge from their hiding spot.
’The scene had been a profound shock to Perry Yates. Now, she felt that nowhere was safe—especially not the sky.’
’She could fly up to ten thousand meters, but who was to say the Plesiosaur’s beam couldn’t reach that high?’
"We..."
Perry Yates opened her mouth, but for a moment, she was at a loss for words.
To be honest, after what she’d just witnessed, Perry Yates had lost all will to fight.
’How could they possibly fight this? Faced with its overwhelming size and sheer power, a direct confrontation was impossible.’
"Actually, it’s not like we’re completely out of options, right, Master Ford?" Amber Sheridan said, turning to Evan Fuller.
"You go?"
Those two simple words made Amber Sheridan shut her mouth instantly.
’They’d just have to lie low for now. The question was how.’
A large body has its advantages, but it also has its disadvantages.
’A large body means high energy consumption. The Plesiosaur was only active for a short while, but it ate several pythons in a row before returning to the water before dawn.’
’This means that even the Plesiosaur can’t move about at will.’
At this thought, an idea suddenly struck Perry Yates. "What if we try poisoning it?" she said.
"Poison?" Amber Sheridan said. "You haven’t given up on that? We already established that poisoning the lake wouldn’t work. You know that yourself."
"She’s not talking about poisoning the water. She means poisoning the Plesiosaur directly."
Seeing that Evan Fuller understood her, Perry Yates nodded emphatically. ’Exactly,’ she thought.
"Oh, I see," Amber said. "But how would we even do that? The Plesiosaur has a tough hide, and it can shoot beams from its mouth. We can’t get anywhere near it."
Besides, and this was the most important part, the Plesiosaur was massive. A small dose of poison would be useless.
To have any effect, the poison would need to be both incredibly potent and in a massive quantity.
"I can handle that."
As Perry Yates spoke, she held out a finger. A single drop of black venom welled up from her fingernail.
The venom dripped from her finger onto a nearby stone. Instantly, the hard rock sizzled and corroded, demonstrating the poison’s terrifying potency.
"Another one of your items?" Amber Sheridan asked.
"Mm-hmm." Perry Yates nodded.
"A four-star one?"
"Mm-hmm." Perry Yates nodded again.
"But this item produces venom at a limited rate," Perry explained. "It’ll take a while to generate enough poison to take down the Plesiosaur. In the meantime, we need to find a carrier, and we need to make sure the Plesiosaur will eat the carrier we’ve injected with the toxin."
Finding a carrier would be easy. Making sure the Plesiosaur eats it... that was going to take some work.
Soon enough, the trio found their carrier: a Venomous Python, dark blue from head to tail and already highly toxic on its own.
It took the three of them some effort, but they managed to take down the Venomous Python. Afterwards, Perry Yates used the Cold Moon Guardian to secure the area, then began to continuously inject her poison into the python’s body.
The process was incredibly slow. After all, she only had her ten fingers to work with.
At the same time, to ensure the Plesiosaur would eat it, Perry Yates also used Ascension on the snake. This not only made it more appetizing, but also intensified the poison.
While Perry Yates was at work, Evan Fuller and Amber Sheridan weren’t idle. Their job was to hunt as many animals in the surrounding area as they could, limiting the Plesiosaur’s other food options.
