Chapter 160: Island Royale 29
Evan Fuller and Amber Sheridan naturally saw what Perry Yates was thinking. As a newcomer, her hesitation was understandable.
However, what she didn’t know was that from the moment they became Dealers, they, this game, and that damn Executor were fated to never coexist peacefully.
Amber Sheridan patted Perry Yates’s shoulder and said earnestly, "Little Perry, once you’ve been in a few more of these games, you’ll get it. In a Dealer game, you give them an inch, and they’ll take a mile. It’s always been a kill-or-be-killed game."
Hearing this, Perry Yates sighed and said, "Alright then. What can I do to help?"
Perry Yates accepted it with surprising speed, so fast that it even startled Amber Sheridan.
Seeing his reaction, Perry Yates said, "I was actually prepared for this. I just haven’t quite adjusted yet."
The three of them discussed their options. They had no way to deal with the Brine-Borers in the sea for now, but they did have a plan for the snakes on the island.
Amber Sheridan suggested, "Why don’t we set a fire?"
"Set fire to a mountain, rot in prison. That’s a serious crime," Perry Yates remarked wryly from the side.
"There are no laws here to stop me. Besides, don’t you think it’s the fastest and easiest way?" Amber Sheridan said.
"You’re not wrong, but I object," Perry Yates said. "If you burn all the plants on the island, what am I supposed to use?"
’Most importantly, if they burn all the plants, all my previous arrangements will be for nothing.’
It was then that Amber Sheridan remembered Perry Yates had the Wood Attribute. While the plants on the island below provided cover for the animals, they could also be a powerful ally.
"Sorry, I forgot about that."
"If we’re not burning the mountain down, we’ll have to pick them off one by one," Evan Fuller said. "It’ll be a good chance to collect more animal carcasses."
Both Perry Yates and Amber Sheridan agreed with his proposal. After all, their mission was to eliminate the one hundred non-Dealer players and survive for thirty days, not to kill every animal on the island.
After settling on a battle plan, the three of them didn’t act immediately.
The greatest difference between humans and animals is that humans use tools.
After selecting a target, they didn’t move in right away. Instead, they spent a day preparing a trap.
「Day 19 of the Game.」
Perry Yates used Wargod Kai on Amber Sheridan, who would act as bait to lure their chosen target.
"Are you sure this spray will work?"
Amber Sheridan asked uncertainly, watching as Perry Yates sprayed him liberally with the canister.
The spray bottle looked almost identical to the clearing spray they had used before.
"It’ll work, it’ll work! Trust me! This is a lure spray. It has a scent no carnivore can resist," Perry Yates said, full of confidence.
"Really? Then why can’t I smell anything?"
’And speaking of carnivores, aren’t humans carnivores? We stand at the very top of the food pyramid.’
"Strictly speaking, humans are omnivores. This spray only works on pure carnivores."
Perry Yates offered a quick explanation before shoving Amber Sheridan out. She and Evan Fuller then took their positions around the trap, waiting for the prey to come to them.
This was the first time Perry Yates had been alone with Evan Fuller. It was... rather awkward.
Evan Fuller had been the "cold, aloof CEO" type from the very beginning, and Perry Yates wasn’t exactly a conversationalist. Without Amber Sheridan there to liven things up, the atmosphere between them instantly froze.
"You’re the owner of The Card Tavern, aren’t you?"
In the end, Evan Fuller was the one to speak first. But his words stunned Perry Yates so much that she wished he hadn’t spoken at all.
"How did you know?" Perry Yates blurted out.
"You’ve left too many clues. The Advanced Cards you’ve produced, and this fused card... it’s a five-star card, isn’t it?"
Evan Fuller gestured to the Wargod Kai he was wearing.
"According to you, the survival games only came to your planet a year ago. Customizing cards at The Card Tavern can’t be cheap, especially Advanced Cards. To possess so many high-level items and fuse an Advanced Card in just one year... other than the owner of The Card Tavern, I can’t think of anyone else who could do it."
After listening to Evan Fuller, Perry Yates sighed. ’Alright, I have to admit it. I’ve left far too many clues.’
"Frankly, with acting that atrocious, I have to wonder if you can really fool anyone around you."
Hearing the mockery in Evan Fuller’s tone, Perry Yates rolled her eyes. "You don’t need to concern yourself. I usually work alone."
"Work alone? Then why did you seek us out this time?"
’Of course it’s because I’m not familiar with the game rules and I was hoping to get carried to an easy win,’ Perry Yates thought.
’But she definitely couldn’t say that out loud.’
After a moment’s thought, Perry Yates turned and looked at Evan Fuller with a perfectly serious expression. "Do you believe in destiny? It was destiny that guided me to meet you. See? We’ve been getting along so well these last few days, haven’t we?"
This time, Evan Fuller didn’t reply.
Just then, a cry came from the distance—the signal they had arranged with Amber Sheridan.
"Looks like he succeeded. Get ready!"
At his words, Perry Yates nodded, her eyes fixed on the direction of the sound.
About two minutes later, Amber Sheridan burst out from a patch of tall grass. Hot on his heels was a massive, cyan-colored python with a head larger than a person’s.
The moment the python entered the designated area, Perry Yates instantly activated a Skill. An ice-blue barrier materialized, enclosing the python and all of them within it.
Simultaneously, innumerable vines erupted from the ground to reinforce the barrier.
It couldn’t be helped; Cold Moon Guardian was a card with both Ice and Moon Attributes.
The Ice Attribute wasn’t Perry Yates’s Main Attribute, and the Moon Attribute was weakened during the daytime. Faced with such a massive python, Perry Yates was genuinely afraid it might break free, which was why she added the extra reinforcement.
Fortunately, Cold Moon Guardian was strong enough. Even after being struck several times, it showed no signs of cracking.
The rest was up to Evan Fuller and Amber Sheridan.
The barrier’s main purpose was to prevent other Dealers and animals from being drawn by the commotion and to contain any telltale scents.
Perry Yates watched the massive cyan python inside the barrier and was inexplicably reminded of Verdia from the Legend of the White Snake.
If Verdia were real, she’d probably be this large.
A snake’s defenses weren’t as tough as a crocodile’s, but it was far more agile. Its long body thrashed about inside the barrier like a whip, nearly striking Perry Yates several times.
