Chapter 120: Zombies’ Discussion
He checked the room one more time, making sure he hadn’t missed anything. Then, as if all strength had left his body, he collapsed onto the bed, panting softly.
The wounds on his body split open and started bleeding again. Stan Sterling couldn’t be bothered with them. He took a syringe from his dimensional space and removed the cap.
Expressionless, he plunged it into his thigh and pressed the plunger, watching the liquid inside slowly diminish until it was gone...
A satisfied smile touched the corners of Stan Sterling’s mouth. A flame ignited in his palm, incinerating the syringe completely.
Then, he carefully wrapped up the medicinal pill Lily Hart had given him, tossed it into his dimensional space, and didn’t look at it again.
The day flew by. Lily Hart lay in bed, tossing and turning, her mind fixated on two people.
Stan Sterling and the little boy.
One of them, she had basically figured out. Stan Sterling was sent by Fortune Base; you could call him a spy.
The little boy’s identity, however, was a mystery. He was extremely guarded, as if he’d been a stray left to fend for himself.
But he was an exception to the system, able to ignore all its rules. In short, he was different from everyone else.
’I have to keep a close eye on these two!’
With that thought, drowsiness washed over her, and Lily Hart gradually fell asleep.
In the corner, Nana and Lily were also sleeping. Beside them, in a cute little flowerpot, grew King.
She may not have had a root system, but as a plant, she still loved soil the most. She even picked out the flowerpot herself~
One person, two cats, and one flower were all sleeping peacefully, but things were not so quiet in the abandoned industrial district a hundred meters away.
Dozens of High-level Zombies were gathered together, all speaking in zombie-tongue, each one cackling with excitement.
And behind these zombies, on a set of tiered steps, a zombie sat in a large chair with his legs crossed.
At first glance, he looked no different from a human, with delicate skin and neat teeth. It was only the blood-red pinpoint of a pupil in the center of his eyes that was deeply unsettling on closer inspection.
He leaned back in a soft, comfortable executive chair, his hands folded casually before him, his eyes closed as if dozing.
Below the steps, the zombies were in a heated discussion. If Lily Hart were here, she would have understood everything and turned pale with shock.
"A female human came by today, did you see her?"
"Saw her! Weren’t Old Five, Old Ten, and Eleven killed? It was tragic!"
"That human smelled so good! I really want to take a bite. I feel like eating her would make me immortal, you know?"
"But we zombies are already immortal...?"
"I feel like eating her would make me level up like CRAZY!"
"I felt it too! She smelled amazing, a hundred times better than any human I’ve ever met!"
"Maybe she took a shower and used body wash?"
"You didn’t see her. It was a meaty fragrance that came from her very bones~"
The zombies who had seen her were lost in endless reminiscence, their expressions entranced!
Those who hadn’t seen her grew incredibly curious from the description, desperately wanting to know what this human smelled like to have mesmerized everyone so completely!
After savoring the memory for a while, one zombie couldn’t help but ask, "So why don’t we just capture her and eat her?"
The words had barely left its mouth when another zombie rolled its eyes. "Do you know Frost Shaw? He can take on a Sixth Rank zombie all by himself. And that fragrant human isn’t a pushover either. Old Five was beaten to death by her!"
"Ah!" A wave of gasps went through the crowd.
"But when she started fighting and broke a sweat, she smelled even better. I really want to chew on her flesh..." another zombie reminisced.
It had been nearby at the time. It wanted to go forward, but after watching its comrade get killed, it could only shrink back.
But it didn’t leave. It just hid nearby, its gaze fixed on the fragrant human, imagining how delicious her flesh would be, how sweet her blood would taste~
On the steps, in the large executive chair, the zombie frowned impatiently and let out a soft "Tsk."
Instantly, the dozens of zombies below fell silent. Not daring to make another sound, they all turned in unison to face him.
"King, what are your orders?" one of the zombies asked, speaking human words.
There were at least ten thousand zombies in the industrial district. A group of dragons cannot be without a leader for a day, and the same was true for zombies.
Ranks have their own hierarchy, which means there’s also a distinction between the strong and the weak. Naturally, those of a higher rank would want to be the boss, to rule as a king.
In the executive chair sat the highest-ranked zombie in this industrial district—an Eighth-ranked Zombie!
He frowned, propping his head up with one hand while swinging his crossed leg, and said nonchalantly, "Bring that human to me."
A zombie immediately asked with excitement, "Is it the one we were just talking about?"
The Zombie King nodded faintly. "That’s the one. Bring her back, and I’ll give each of you a piece of her flesh to eat."
"The King is mighty! And wise!" The zombies below were overjoyed. Just hearing their comrades’ descriptions had made them ravenous.
One of The Zombie King’s trusted subordinates took charge of organizing. "You few, go mobilize the zombies in the southeast. You, head to the southwest... In half an hour, gather at the south gate of the industrial district!"
The High-level Zombies eagerly went to mobilize the other low-level zombies in the industrial district.
Half an hour passed in the blink of an eye. Inside the south gate of the industrial district, several thousand zombies had gathered.
At a glance, it was a dense, packed crowd. All one could see was a sea of bobbing heads, and their excited roars could be faintly heard.
The Zombie King, standing among the horde, gave a light cough. A psychic wave, unique to zombies, instantly reached every zombie present.
They gradually quieted down and even began to line up automatically, filing out of the gate in silent rows.
They were being controlled by the High-level Zombies. Although a zombie’s brain had turned into a Crystal Core, it still possessed a degree of intelligence and thought. The higher the rank, the smarter the zombie.
Meanwhile, Lily Hart was deep in sleep when the system suddenly blared a piercing alarm.
[Zombie horde will arrive at the lottery shop in three minutes.]
[Zombie horde will arrive at the lottery shop in three minutes.]
[Zombie horde will arrive at the lottery shop in three minutes.]
Lily Hart heard it groggily. It was just noise to her, but she caught the keyword: zombie horde.
She subconsciously activated the RV’s highest level of protection. After being upgraded to Level 5, it could now encompass both the convenience store and the hotel.
"Alright, stop shouting," Lily Hart muttered, extremely sleepy, and fell asleep again.
This maximum protection not only blocked external harm but also sound. When the zombie army arrived outside the RV, they found they couldn’t get in at all, blocked by a resilient, elastic wall.
The Zombie King transformed his fingernails, making them long and sharp, and touched the barrier. The barrier indented into a triangle, matching the shape of his nail.
But that was all. Moving forward even one more centimeter was impossible.
The Zombie King tried to attack, but his blows were completely absorbed, as if by a bottomless pit that devoured all.
He contemplated for a moment, then ordered, "Dig. From underground."
At his command, all the zombies stirred into action, testing the barrier with their bodies and surrounding it completely.
Every inch of land outside the barrier was occupied by a zombie. Some who hadn’t managed to grab a spot in the front row could only stand in the back.
Soon, they began to dig at the ground with their bare hands in unison. Their sharp, hard fingernails were the perfect tools for the job.
