Apocalypse: My Items Can Upgrade Infinitely

Monsters like this shouldn’t have been able to survive. It was as if some mysterious force was keeping them alive.

What was most unsettling was their method of feeding.

With no mouths or feeding appendages, these monsters could only touch their food and directly fuse with it, adhering the chunks of meat thrown before them onto their bodies.

Just then, a human head landed beside them.

Its nerves somehow reconnected, the head let out an agonized shriek. But as foreign cells invaded, they began to engulf the flesh and blood at the severed neck...

The face began to twist horribly. The resulting expression was something no normal person could make—more terrifying and grotesque than any grimace. Its features looked as if they had been thrown into a blender, pulverized, and then haphazardly reassembled.

Before long, it was completely assimilated. A red outer shell formed over the head, which became just another tumorous growth on the monster’s body.

Even Lin Feng, who had always considered himself quite resilient, felt a chill run down his spine. Behind him, Liu Yueqi’s stomach was churning violently.

Even through their respiratory filters, they could smell the foul, bloody stench that permeated the air.

Ling Shuyan stopped and turned around.

"Are you going to keep going? There’s only one left."

Lin Feng didn’t answer, glancing at Ling Yi instead.

The figure nodded, their voice carrying a buzzing tremor through the mask.

"These bugs come in all sorts of strange forms, but they all share a common characteristic: fiery red Outer Armor..."

"Including the staff here, who all display similar, minor mutations. I assume it all comes from that massive creature in the very back, correct?"

Hearing Ling Yi reveal the truth, the color drained from Ling Shuyan’s face, and her breathing grew heavy.

The condensation from her breath fogged up her plastic face shield, obscuring her shocked and bewildered expression.

"Let’s go. If we don’t deal with it, that thing will turn this place into a living Hell!"

"Luckily, it hasn’t proliferated to Tier Three. Otherwise, humanity’s apocalyptic suffering would be that much worse..."

Ignoring Ling Shuyan, Ling Yi spoke while leading Lin Feng past the staff members, who were too afraid to advance, and into the darkness beyond.

Suddenly, fireballs lit up the darkness, followed immediately by high-frequency, ear-piercing shrieks.

The sound was so agonizing that everyone else clamped their hands over their ears. The bodies of the monsters in the nearby iron cages even began to split open, seeping blood.

A few minutes later, their two figures slowly emerged.

Lin Feng’s hazmat suit was torn away, revealing the Flying Tiger Armor underneath. He held an Electromagnetic Cannon, white smoke still wafting from its muzzle. He looked at the shell-shocked Ling Shuyan, his tone low and forceful.

"This type of mutation is called Genetic Radiation. It comes from the Realm Ability of a Tier Four Cosmic Life. Through its own Energy radiation, it can warp the genes of nearby creatures, forcing them to develop its own biological characteristics..."

"The Red-Armored Beetles are extremely dangerous. Not even the Zerg Race is confident it can control them. Humanity should stop playing with fire."

The sheer volume of information in his words instantly shattered Ling Shuyan’s worldview. Snapping out of her dismay at losing an important test subject, she looked at Lin Feng and gritted her teeth.

"What exactly do you know? Why is humanity completely in the dark about all this? Is it really related to your mother?"

A flicker of surprise crossed Lin Feng’s face, but he didn’t answer her question directly, continuing instead.

"In any case, Genetic Fusion—just like the Genetic Warrior program—is extremely dangerous. I hope you won’t conduct this sort of research without authorization in the future."

"No one knows what kind of disaster it could bring upon humanity and Blue Star."

"If you have any other questions, we can talk tonight."

"I’m hungry. It’s time for dinner."

With that, Lin Feng stowed his Electromagnetic Cannon and turned to Liu Yueqi, who still hadn’t recovered, explaining patiently,

"It was just a pile of living, rotten flesh in there. I suspect some of those people’s body parts were mixed in..."

"But with your current Power, you can’t get close. Once you advance to become a Tier Two Awakener, I’ll explain the reasons behind this in detail."

"Let’s go. It’s all over."

Liu Yueqi nodded, only half-understanding. She had been wanting to leave for a while anyway, so she followed Lin Feng and Ling Yi, leaving the area immediately.

Leaving Ling Shuyan to stare after their retreating figures...
