Chapter 365 - 195: Planting a Nuclear Bomb, Annihilating the Tier Two Wind-winged Zergs
"We have to get through this before we can successfully advance."
"Back when Wu City’s first defensive line was breached, the best time to kill the Hai City Mother Empress was before it completed its advancement."
Lin Feng sighed softly.
"Enough. We didn’t know about it back then. I had only just reached Tier Two. I didn’t have the confidence or the power to kill a Mother Empress."
With that, the two of them had already snuck into the subway station.
Using Ling Yi’s Spirit Manipulation, they successfully took control of the dozens of Red-Armored Beetles on the platform. They then guided them to block the entrance to the deepest tunnel, where they held their position.
Deeper below, a large swarm of Red-Armored Beetles, under the remote control of the Jiangbei Mother Empress, continued to scout ahead.
Once the upper level was secure, Lin Feng used his walkie-talkie to order the ground commander to bring the Nuclear Bomb down and position it beside the deepest subway tunnel.
The plan was to wait for the rear tunnel to collapse and the Jiangbei Mother Empress to approach, then immediately enter the code, retreat, and go for a single, devastating blow.
After everything was in place, everyone retreated to the surface on Lin Feng’s command, spreading out and lying in wait.
The entire subway station was empty save for Lin Feng and Ling Yi, who sat beside the Nuclear Bomb in eager anticipation.
The countdown ticked by, one minute, one second at a time...
「Meanwhile, a hundred kilometers away in the skies above Wu City.」
Unbeknownst to anyone, a fierce battle had already erupted, marking an early start to the final battle for Wu City.
After Lin Feng departed with the decapitation squad, Shen Jie led thirty Tier Two Genetic Warriors soaring through the clouds. He soon spotted a cluster of black dots circling dozens of kilometers in the distance, high above the Hai City Suburban Area.
Upon closer inspection, he realized it was the bomber squadron of Tier Two Wind-winged Zergs, dispatched by the Hai City Mother Empress.
To secure the element of surprise, Shen Jie summoned five of his most skilled fliers to join him in a reconnaissance mission to gauge the enemy’s true strength.
The six of them slipped into a cloud layer two thousand meters high, cautiously making their way closer.
Soon, they were positioned diagonally beneath the swarm of Wind-winged Zergs.
They were no more than four or five hundred meters away.
Tier Two Wind-winged Zergs could fly thousands of meters into the sky. At such altitudes, Heavy Machine Gun bullets and standard cannon shells would lose too much momentum to cause any damage. Only rocket-assisted ballistic missiles could take them down.
Unfortunately, without radar to guide their trajectory, the missiles were powerless against the nimble, evasive maneuvers of the Wind-winged Zergs.
Only by forming its own Aerospace Corps could humanity hope to kill these tenacious Tier Two Zerg Race in aerial combat.
Shen Jie emerged from the clouds, his eyes scanning the swarm of Wind-winged Zergs from behind his sunglasses.
There were a full twelve of them. Unlike the Cyan-winged Zergs, they had massive, wasp-like tails that were seventy to eighty meters long, accounting for two-thirds of their total body length.
Of course, such enormous tails were filled with vast numbers of Suicide Bugs, ready to be dropped on human defensive positions.
A single Wind-winged Zerg could carry two hundred Suicide Bugs. The twelve of them here were the equivalent of one thousand two hundred anti-tank missiles. One bombing run would be enough to inflict devastating losses on the entire Wu City defensive line, including the fleet in the suburban area.
’They must not be allowed to succeed!’
’These creatures are obviously waiting for the fleet to advance deeper inland and pull away from the defenders on the main line. That will reduce the available anti-aircraft fire, allowing them to concentrate their bombing on the entire fleet.’
’And that fleet is the cornerstone of the final battle for Wu City; nothing can be allowed to happen to it!’
After taking a deep breath, Shen Jie slipped back into the clouds. He ordered the other five to return to where the rest of their squad was hiding and lead them to swing wide, preparing to encircle and annihilate the Wind-winged Zerg swarm.
He had to act fast.
After dealing with the Wind-winged Zergs, he was still needed for the decapitation mission in the city’s northern district.
Shen Jie, master of the Slaughter Realm, was also a key part of the decapitation mission.
Soon, the squad members had split into six teams and, just as planned, formed a circle below the Wind-winged Zerg swarm.
Leveraging their relatively minuscule size, the Aerospace Corps managed to remain completely undetected by the Wind-winged Zergs.
With Shen Jie at the very center of the encirclement, he was the first to attack. The Machine Cannon in his hands spat a fiery serpent upward, and the other thirty Genetic Warriors, having already locked onto their own targets, followed their commander’s lead and squeezed their triggers.
In an instant, a great net woven from a torrent of metal descended upon the Wind-winged Zerg bomber squadron, which was still circling idly as it awaited the Mother Empress’s command.
Because their bodies were fully laden, and because they were fighting to maintain stability against high-altitude turbulence, both their reaction speed and flight performance were severely diminished. They had no time to react before the shells slammed into them.
The cannon fire instantly shredded the thin film of their Membrane Wings and blasted open the tail sections that stored the Suicide Bugs.
The powerful shockwaves from the explosions immediately triggered a chain reaction among the Suicide Bugs.
Like a string of firecrackers, they began to detonate, one after another!
A violent conflagration of fire and light swallowed every last one of the Tier Two Wind-winged Zergs...
The dawning sky was instantly plunged into darkness!
In the next moment, a fiery light illuminated the world, as brilliant as the noonday sun!
One massive explosion followed another,
and the powerful shockwaves even swept over the Aerospace Corps hundreds of meters below, blasting them thousands of meters away. Many of the members who couldn’t stabilize in time were sent tumbling head over heels by the violent air currents, their consciousness fading...
A Level 10 gale ripped through the Hai City Suburban Area!
A hollowed-out cavity tens of kilometers wide was blasted through the clouds.
A yellowish-white mushroom cloud slowly began to dissipate.
Countless fragments of Zerg limbs rained down from the sky.
Witnessing this from the Dreadnought Battleship of the ground fleet, Chen Yanyan immediately gave the order:
"All units, advance!"
