Chapter 364 - 195: Planting a Nuclear Bomb, Annihilating Tier Two Wind-winged Zergs (Part 2)
Thirty Tier Two Battle Group warriors, including four Battle Group Leaders at Tier Two Late Stage Perfection and twenty-six regular Tier Two members, were equipped with Lv. 19 shotguns and Lv. 24 or higher Tiger-toothed Chainsaw Swords.
Coupled with their full-body Orange Tiger Armor, the combat strength of this Tier Two Battle Group was in no way inferior to that of the Genetic Combat Team.
Next were three hundred Tier One Late-Stage Warriors, whom Lin Feng had Li Ran meticulously select. Armed with shotguns, they were responsible for providing covering fire as the others charged underground to hunt down the Mother Empress.
To avoid revealing her position and ensure her safety, the Jiangbei Mother Empress would surely command all of her subordinate Tier Two Tiger Spine Zergs to advance with her on a forced march.
Ling Yi estimated that the Mother Empress had at least three hundred Tiger Spine Zergs under her command, and that most of them would be traveling with her on the surface.
Tier Two Tiger Spine Zergs were very fast, capable of reaching speeds of over one hundred kilometers per hour.
If the Mother Empress was struck by a nuclear bomb, they would undoubtedly rush to her rescue in a short amount of time.
At that time, there had to be troops on the surface to intercept their rescue attempt, and the three hundred Tier One Late Stage Awakened armed with shotguns would be sufficient to provide suppressive fire.
Their strength also allowed them to use the shotguns at their maximum fire rate, preventing the intense recoil from disrupting their sustained output of firepower.
At the same time, having them kill the Tiger Spine Zergs would also maximize the use of resources, allowing them to naturally advance to become Tier Two Awakeners and reducing the consumption of Tier Two Zerg Eggs.
Soon, with Lin Feng and Ling Yi leading the way, the group cautiously moved forward and found Subway Line 1, located in the center of Xi City.
From an office building in the city’s CBD, they gazed out over a desolate plaza.
During the mass exodus when the entire city was evacuated, everything had been left abandoned. As a result, the city’s subway system had not been filled with cement and permanently sealed.
When Ling Yi saw the subway sign at the intersection, along with the entrances on all four corners, she recalled a roadside sign she had seen while driving north from Jin City with Lin Feng.
Clearly, Lin Feng had already noticed this and used it to deduce the Jiangbei Mother Empress’s route, which was how he formulated the entire ambush plan.
With this in mind, she took out her phone, enlarged the city map of Xi City, and scanned the entire length of Line 1.
"Which station are we using to set the ambush?"
Lin Feng was already prepared.
"Line 1 has a total of three stations that intersect with other lines, allowing for transfers."
"We just need to plant the nuclear bombs at these three locations, and we’ll have three options to choose from along the line."
"Our current location is the southernmost transfer station, Civic Center Station, near Taihu Lake."
"I’ve already arranged for my people to plant the nuclear bomb in a hidden location on the lowest level. As soon as the Mother Empress gets close, we’ll be able to take her out in one fell swoop."
As he finished speaking, the walkie-talkie clipped to the chest of his Flying Tiger Armor crackled with a report from a Battle Group Leader:
"Reporting! The black box has been set!"
Lin Feng pressed the reply key.
"Leave two men to stand guard. The rest of you, follow me to the next transfer station."
With that said, he led Ling Yi and the rest of the team toward the Xi City Railway Station in the northern part of the city.
For a team whose members were all at least Tier One Late Stage Awakened, a forced march of a dozen or so kilometers was nothing at all.
At a forced march, it took them only ten-odd minutes to reach their destination.
The massive train station was completely empty.
After planting the nuclear bomb, only the last station was left.
By now, Ling Yi could already smell the scent of Red-Armored Beetles drifting in from the suburbs of Xi City, even farther to the north.
To avoid alerting the enemy, Lin Feng decided to take only the thirty Tier Two Battle Group members to this last station, leaving the three hundred warriors to guard the railway station and act as the situation dictated.
An underground nuclear detonation would generate tremors equivalent to a magnitude three or four earthquake, which would be especially intense within a radius of a dozen or so kilometers.
Once the three hundred warriors sensed it, they would move in to provide support.
By the time Lin Feng and the Tier Two Battle Group arrived outside the last transfer station, signs of Red-Armored Beetle activity had already appeared in the suburban woodlands not far away.
Fortunately, the group was downwind, and the sealed Tiger Armor they wore gave off the scent of the Zerg Race, so their position was not revealed.
Lin Feng had them hide inside one of the residential complex’s buildings, then he and Ling Yi snuck into the subway to probe the situation.
"The Spiritual Net on these Red-Armored Beetles is very weak. They must just be frontline scouts sent by the Mother Empress to reconnoiter the enemy and scout a path."
"However, this location is still thirty kilometers from the Great River Port, so the Jiangbei Mother Empress has likely gotten wind of our plans and has made landfall on the edge of Xi City by now."
Ling Yi led the way, turning back to explain the situation to Lin Feng in a low voice.
Lin Feng’s eyes narrowed, and he kept a constant watch on their surroundings.
"The sooner, the better. Let’s plant the nuclear warhead here. The farther we go, the higher the risk of exposure. I estimate she won’t arrive here until the afternoon."
Ling Yi nodded.
"This spot is roughly in the middle of the subway line, which makes it a perfect place for an ambush. When the time comes, remember to send a team to circle around and cut her off at the station ahead to prevent her from escaping back into the Great River."
Lin Feng completely agreed.
"It’s better that we’re farther north, too. This way, the Hai City Mother Empress will be too preoccupied to notice what’s happening here. Perhaps she’ll be spread too thin, allowing you to smoothly take over the Jiangbei Mother Empress’s entire Swarm."
As he said this, Lin Feng glanced at Ling Yi, who was looking back at him.
"By then, with control over two Swarms, your main body should be able to break through to the Tier Three Middle Stage, right?"
Ling Yi’s brow furrowed slightly.
"It’s not that simple. The advancement process itself will take three days to a week. During that time, all my energy has to be focused on myself, so my control over the Swarm will be at its weakest. The entire Zerg Race’s combat effectiveness will be extremely low."
