The next morning, Violet woke up early. While she was trying to find somewhere to move to, she didn’t forget about hoarding supplies.

So, for today, she planned on going to buy electrical things she’d need to survive the apocalypse.

Her plan was to get a portable generator, solar panels and a solar power bank, rechargeable batteries, a battery-powered radio, LED lanterns and flashlights, extension cords, and a few backup inverters.

She wore baggy jeans and a black tank top. Standing in front of the mirror, she gathered her hair in her hand and used a band to hold it in place. Then she put on her baseball cap and big dark glasses.

Taking one last look at herself, she stepped out of the room. As she passed the dining area, she walked over and placed all the snacks she’d ordered earlier into her system. There was also a plate of food she hadn’t eaten earlier, which she placed there too.

She was going to have a long day of shopping and might not have enough time to eat, so she’d eat whatever she could inside the car.

Earlier that morning, Jen had sent a text to let her know she’d be back by noon, since something else had come up.

Violet told her to take all the time she needed, she could join her once she was free, since there was no need for any makeup today.

The moment she stepped out of the elevator, her phone dinged. It was a message from the ride she’d booked. Since she was done being Kierra Adams for the day, she used her real name for the cab.

The driver opened the door, and Violet slid into the car, settling into the back passenger seat.

Once the car began moving, she brought out her phone and went through the list she’d made, adding a few things she’d forgotten earlier.

While her head was still lowered, the driver suddenly stopped the car, which caused Violet to lift her head.

The driver pulled the car to the side of the road. This wasn’t her destination, there was still over forty minutes before she reached where she was going.

"Is something wrong?" she asked the driver, holding his gaze through the rearview mirror.

His look was empty and distant as he stared back at her without a word. Violet lifted a brow. "Are you going to answer me o—"

She stopped when she heard the door on the other side open.

The man who just came in leaned forward and grabbed her head, pressing a handkerchief to her nose. .

Violet fought and struggled, but it was futile, the man was three times her size and his grip was strong. Everything happened so fast, without giving her enough time to react.

Slowly, the world faded to black, and her head fell to the side, resting against the glass. From outside, she looked like someone who was asleep.

The men in the car exchanged glances, and the driver nodded before pressing on the accelerator.

Violet didn’t regain consciousness until three hours later. She lay curled up on a bed, her band had slipped off, her hair spread over the pillow.

A sharp pain exploded in her head, threatening to split it in two. Moving felt like a chore, and her gaze felt hazy. She blinked, pressing one hand to her head as she tried to sit up.

She was in an unfamiliar room. The mattress was soft, the bedsheet smooth. The smell of lavender drifted through the room. It took a few minutes for Violet to adjust to the bright light.

Her eyes quickly scanned the room, taking note of everything as she sat up straight. Sunlight spilled in through the window, the curtains parted.

There was an old table and chairs off to the side. Everything in the room seemed to be some shade of white.

"Where am I?" she whispered under her breath.

She remembered how she’d gotten there. The ride, the driver, the strange man, and now this room.

She’d been abducted.

However, this wasn’t a regular abduction, otherwise she’d have been tied to a chair and probably beaten. But she was on a bed.

She rubbed her eyes, thinking of who could have done this.

Was it Leo? That wasn’t possible, he wouldn’t have found out anything about her yet.

It also couldn’t possibly be Kai. Right? She asked herself, then quickly dismissed the thought. He might look strange and mysterious, but from what she’d observed the day before, he wasn’t the type to force her into working with him.

That left only one option.

Harry.

Her father.

At that thought, she quickly climbed off the bed and took large strides to the window. She looked outside to see a familiar line of trees.

She let out a breath of relief, some of her worries slipping away.

She turned and studied the room. But what was this room? She’d cleaned most of the rooms in the house before and knew their layouts, but this one was different.

Harry had brought her here. She crossed her arms over her chest and walked back to the bed.

’Dylan probably told him about me.’ she scoffed as she dropped onto the bed.

She’d been ignoring his calls and messages, and this was probably all he had left to resort to.

Her head kept pounding, the pain almost unbearable. She wondered what had been in that handkerchief.

She flattened her hand against the mattress. The wheels in her head spun.

She needed to leave. She couldn’t possibly sit here and wait for Harry to do whatever he saw fit. Besides, she still had shopping to do. Today couldn’t be wasted.

But if Harry had brought her here and locked her in this room, it meant he wasn’t going to let her go easily.

Well, that could easily be dealt with, after all, she had a system. All she needed was a maid to walk in.

With that thought, she walked to the door.

She lifted her hand and knocked sharply.

No response.

She banged on it, louder this time. The noise made her headache worse, but she didn’t care.

It wasn’t until she knocked a third time that she heard the sound of footsteps. A few seconds late, the door opened and Nancy stepped into the room.
