Apocalypse Regression: I Am the SSS-Rank Nightmare

Chapter 69: Floor 7, Sector 07: The Echoing Abyss

The secondary transfer gate at the heart of the Umbral Bastion did not open with light or sound. It simply parted, revealing a vertical corridor of absolute violet darkness that swallowed the last traces of the command hall and replaced them with a deeper, colder silence.

Leon Graves stepped through. The Bastion Command Core in his inventory pulsed once, rewriting the gate’s residual ownership so that no Concord protocol could seal it behind him. The Aura of the End-Game expanded the instant his boots left the black stone floor, forming a protective sphere of absolute darkness that erased the spatial turbulence before it could touch his frame.

The transition lasted less than two seconds.

When the violet corridor released him, Leon stood upon a narrow bridge of seamless black obsidian suspended over an endless, lightless chasm. The air here was thinner and colder than any previous sector of Floor 7. No crystal lanterns burned. No residual starlight reached this depth. The only illumination came from faint, slow-moving veins of deep violet energy that pulsed along the distant walls of the chasm like the heartbeat of something vast and buried.

[Transfer Sequence: 100% Complete.]

[You have arrived at Floor 7, Sector 07: The Echoing Abyss.]

[Local environmental trait active: Profound Spatial Echo – sound and mana signatures are amplified and reflected across the chasm. Stealth effectiveness reduced by 20% unless mitigated by conceptual immunity.]

The full passive immunity of the Void Monarch Set nullified the echo penalty before it could register. Leon’s presence remained clean. He stood still for a single breath, allowing the Level 2 Ashen Fog to expand across the new sector and map every structure within three miles.

The Echoing Abyss was not a simple transit zone. Suspended platforms of black stone floated at irregular intervals along the chasm walls, connected by narrow bridges and reinforced with layered spatial anchors. Upon the nearest large platform rose a fortified observation spire of the Concord’s deep-line defenses—smaller than the Umbral Bastion, yet denser with high-tier signatures. Residual alarm protocols from the fallen Bastion had already reached this far. The spire’s crystal turrets were active and sweeping.

Leon adjusted the collar of his duster coat and began walking across the bridge.

The numbers sat in quiet balance after the Bastion engagement. The massive extraction from Commander Thalor had settled cleanly. With the full Void Monarch Set active, his physical density and movement speed remained far beyond the linear expectations of even the deeper sectors of Floor 7.

He reached the end of the first bridge and stepped onto the outer platform of the observation spire. Four Level 68 Arcane Wardens stood in a defensive square around the entrance arch, their crystal masks already turned toward him. Layered mana shields interlocked the moment his presence crossed the detection threshold.

"Deep-line anomaly confirmed," the lead Warden projected. "The Umbral Bastion has fallen silent. Contain and erase."

Leon did not slow.

He expanded the Aura of the End-Game to its full fifty-foot radius.

BOOM.

Absolute darkness swallowed the platform. The interlocking shields of the four Wardens peeled away into gray ash. Their attributes dropped by forty percent under the passive weight of Finality. Gravity inside the circle multiplied, forcing two of them to one knee.

Leon activated Abyssal Step.

Six seconds of complete erasure. He moved through the paralyzed formation, the Abyssal Stinger leaving and returning to its sheath in four precise motions. Necrotic Injection discharged with each thrust, severing cores before any distress signal could form.

Four neat mounds of dark gray sand marked the threshold.

[Four high-tier Arcane Wardens destroyed.]

The entrance arch of the observation spire, already weakened by the domain, crumbled into ash when Leon placed his palm against the black stone and pushed a controlled pulse of Finality into the structure. He stepped through into the inner chamber.

The chamber was smaller than the Bastion’s command hall, circular and lined with floating data crystals that continuously recorded spatial fluctuations across the abyss. Arrayed across the floor stood six Level 69 Arcane Magisters and, at their center, a single heavier signature—Warden-Captain Sereth, deep-line authority of Sector 07.

Sereth’s crystal mask turned toward the intruder. The voice that entered Leon’s mind was cold and precise.

"You have erased two command nodes in succession. That ends here."

Six staves rose in unison. A coordinated high-concept binding array began to form—layers of interlocking spatial runes designed to pin a target and continuously drain mana while amplifying the chasm’s echo effect.

Leon walked forward into the forming array.

The Aura of the End-Game erased the runes the moment they entered its radius, turning the carefully constructed sigils into drifting gray ash. The full passive immunity of the Void Monarch Set nullified the residual echo amplification before it could take hold.

Sereth’s wings of compressed spatial energy snapped open. The Warden-Captain launched itself forward at high speed, black crystal gauntlets forming into dense spatial blades aimed at Leon’s core.

Leon activated Finality Eclipse.

The entire chamber lost sound and color for a fraction of a second. The SSS-rank skill forced the pure, concentrated concept of decay into a single point of physical impact, completely ignoring the remaining conceptual defenses of the living crystal armor. The Abyssal Stinger drove forward and pierced the center of Sereth’s chest, where the primary spatial core burned with cold violet light.

BOOM.

The core collapsed inward. The kinetic energy folded into a black vortex of necrotic fire that systematically ate through every remaining structure of the Level 71 deep-line authority. The spatial wings dissolved into gray ash. The living black crystal armor turned brittle and crumbled. Warden-Captain Sereth’s form folded in on itself and became a single tall mound of dark gray sand at the center of the chamber.

[Deep-Line Authority Warden-Captain Sereth completely annihilated.]

A heavy torrent of stolen attributes and pure mana flooded Leon’s core. His framework expanded smoothly to accommodate the influx. The residual violet smoke drifting from his knuckles faded into the cold air of the observation spire.

He walked forward through the settling ash and retrieved the sole remaining object at the center of the sand mound: a slender black crystal rod pulsing with dense administrative light—the Abyss Observation Key.

[Abyss Observation Key acquired.]

[Administrative override of Sector 07 observation network is now possible.]

[Path to the primary descent gate of the Echoing Abyss has been unlocked.]

Leon closed his fingers around the rod. Through the Ashen Fog he felt the remaining defensive protocols across the nearby platforms collapse one by one. Crystal turrets powered down. Residual constructs deactivated and fell still. The observation network of Sector 07 was silent.

He turned toward the far side of the chamber, where a larger transfer gate had begun to materialize—a wide vertical tear of deep violet energy leading still deeper into the middle layers of Floor 7.

The deep-line defenses of the Aethelgard Concord on this sector had been broken. The observation authority was ash. The path downward now answered to him.

Leon Graves slid the Abyss Observation Key into his internal inventory, adjusted the collar of his duster coat, and stepped toward the newly opened gate. The Aura of the End-Game trailed behind him like a living mantle of absolute finality, ready to unmake whatever the Architects had prepared in the true depths.
