Chapter 532: Commanding a Ghost
Chapter 532 -374: Commanding a Ghost
Cameron wanted to deny it.
After all, that was exactly what he was planning to do.
He desired the woman, to be sure, but how could she compare to his own life and future?
In fact, he’d already come up with a plan.
If he could use this opportunity to make Summers Twelve believe his people had abandoned him, or even classified him as one of the Island Master’s faction, then all the hope Summers Twelve once had for helping them would quickly turn to despair. Then, if the Island Master offered a gentle hand, his submission would be guaranteed!
‘Such a simple trick for such an excellent result,’ he thought. ‘The Island Master is sure to approve.’
When that time came, he certainly wouldn’t be held accountable for putting Sunny in danger.
He might even receive a generous reward.
Thinking about it that way, losing Sunny didn’t seem so bad after all…
But before he could speak, Finn Sherman gave him no chance, continuing, “Cameron, the Island Master is currently possessed by an evil spirit, suffering unbearable pain. Go back and tell him that if he releases Lord Summers, the affliction will naturally disappear. Otherwise, the spirit of Juzi will ride on his back forever, its hands wrapped tightly around his neck.”
The color drained from Cameron’s face.
He grit his teeth, bowed his head, and spun around to leave in a hurry.
He moved so quickly that he didn’t notice Finn Sherman’s hands forming several seals within his wide sleeves, flicking a speck of light onto his back the moment he turned.
He didn’t see it, but Marcus Monroe and Paige Summers did.
However, they both knew this wasn’t the time for questions, so they remained silent and waited patiently.
Cameron’s heart was pounding with anxiety as he returned to District R1.
While requesting an audience with the Island Master, he couldn’t help but ask a young attendant, “Is the Island Master’s health all right?”
The attendant gave him a strange look. “He’s perfectly fine.”
Cameron’s brow furrowed instantly.
‘Finn Sherman was lying to me?’
‘But why would he lie to me now?’
‘If I can expose this lie the moment I see the Island Master, then of course I won’t mention anything about releasing Summers Twelve!’
‘There’s no way Finn Sherman doesn’t understand that!’
Before he could figure it out, the attendant came out to relay a message. “The Island Master will see Lord Cameron now.”
In the main hall, the Lord of Morindale Island, Asaki Yeats, sat on the main throne at the head of the room. The high back of the chair, combined with his magnificent robes, made him look like an emperor.
Cameron didn’t dare to look directly at him. He kept his head bowed low, half-kneeling, and only after being given permission to be seated did he cautiously sit in a chair to the right.
At the same time, the speck of light hidden on his back under his clothes began to stir, sliding downward. As he was apologizing for what had happened to Sunny, the speck fell to the floor and shot violently toward Asaki Yeats, climbing up his leg to his shoulder…
Meanwhile, back at the port, Finn Sherman spoke grimly to Paige Summers and Marcus Monroe. “It is time. I must ask you both to stand guard for me.”
“Okay.”
Paige Summers and Marcus Monroe asked no questions. Seeing Finn Sherman lift his robes and sit cross-legged on the ground, they stood with their backs to him, their gazes sweeping over the group of Superpower Users in the distance, on full alert.
After hearing Cameron’s account, the Island Master, Asaki Yeats, was greatly displeased.
Although he mostly saw Sunny as a tool, she was his sister, after all. If he just stood by and watched her get abducted and killed by those Astorians, it would be terrible for his reputation on the island. So, his expression turned severe, and he was about to order Cameron to find someone to impersonate Summers Twelve to trick the Astorians and rescue Sunny. Of course, he’d also stage a little drama to sow discord for the real Summers Twelve to see… But before he could get the words out, he felt a sudden, heavy pressure on his back. It was as if a hand was clamping down on his neck, making it hard to even breathe!
Asaki Yeats’s face turned beet red as he pitched forward and fell to the ground in front of his throne.
He rolled back and forth in agony.
Everyone was stunned.
The young attendant at the door was the first to react, rushing over. “My lord! My lord, what’s wrong?”
He tried to help Asaki Yeats up, but the man had nearly lost his mind from the pain. When he felt a touch on his back and neck, the agony intensified, and he mercilessly slapped the attendant, sending him flying!
The attendant’s body slammed into a chair in the hall with a loud CRASH.
Cameron finally snapped out of his daze.
When Asaki Yeats was finally half-supported, half-restrained by several guards and forced to swallow the doctor’s medicine pills, the pain finally subsided somewhat.
But it only helped a little.
It allowed him to lie prone on a bed, conscious and no longer delirious with pain.
Still, the pain was intense.
At that moment, Cameron finally and completely believed Finn Sherman’s words.
By believing him, he could prove this vengeful spirit had nothing to do with him, forever burying the fleeting thought that he might have been the one who brought it here!
He prostrated himself on the floor before Asaki Yeats’s bed, kowtowing, and only then did he slowly relay Finn Sherman’s message.
By now, Asaki Yeats had already learned from the doctor that the onset of his pain was too bizarre, its cause completely untraceable. So, when he heard what Cameron said, he believed it instantly.
The people of the Sherman Family were skilled in Magic, and likewise, skilled in commanding spirits.
If Finn Sherman was behind this, then it must be true.
That sudden bout of pain had nearly killed him. Asaki Yeats was now utterly exhausted, both mentally and physically.
He closed his eyes and remained silent for a long time.
Just as Cameron was wondering if he had fallen asleep, he slowly opened his eyes again.
“Do as he says. But before that, have Lord Summers take the ‘gift’.”
“Yes, sir.”
The “gift” was no pleasantry. It was the name of a poison. During the war, Rovarians would prepare one for each graduate of their intelligence schools, a pill that would cause death about a week after being ingested. His intention in giving this “gift” to Summers Twelve was self-evident.
‘If I can’t have him, then none of you can!’
With Asaki Yeats’s order, Cameron quickly took Summers Twelve to the port.
His mood was foul, so he was silent the entire way.
Summers Twelve was naturally even less talkative. His expression remained placid until he stepped out of the car and saw Sunny held at swordpoint by Paige Summers. Only then did a hint of surprise show in his eyes.
But the surprise was fleeting, and his expression quickly returned to one of quiet indifference.
He had never fully trusted her anyway, so her betrayal, or the fact that it was all a scam from the beginning, wasn’t that surprising.
It was Sunny, in contrast, who, upon learning her life would be spared, showed an extremely complicated expression at the sight of Summers Twelve’s impending departure.
The hostage exchange went smoothly.
However, Cameron and his men didn’t leave immediately. Only after seeing a green signal flare from District R1 in the distance did he secretly breathe a sigh of relief and call off the encirclement.
At the port, the silhouette of a ship gradually came into view.
Paige Summers, Marcus Monroe, Finn Sherman, and Summers Twelve—the four of them cautiously retreated onto the ship.
Immediately, Shawn Summers, in the control room, started the ship’s engines.
The other members of the Summers Family responsible for navigation also moved quickly, getting to work on setting sail.
The new ship began to slowly pull away from the port.
Cameron grit his teeth, glaring resentfully at the vessel. He suddenly roared, “Attack!”
