Chapter 530 -372: Hijack (Part 2)

Marcus Monroe gently squeezed Paige Summers’s hand. They decided to retreat for now.

With their skills, escaping would be easy as long as they weren’t discovered. They quickly returned to the small grove where they had met up with Rhonda Rhodes earlier.

“Let’s head back to the ship first. The terrain in Districts 1 and 2 is unknown. We need more intelligence,” Marcus Monroe said softly.

Paige Summers nodded.

The two of them sped back toward the secret harbor.

However, they were still a good distance from the thicket outside the harbor when they stopped in their tracks, ducking behind a large boulder beside them in a flash.

‘People!’

‘And a lot of them!’

They exchanged a look, held their breath, and strained their ears to listen.

‘The ambush starts not far from here and likely extends all the way to the tunnel entrance… There are at least dozens, maybe even over a hundred Superpower Users lying in wait… Their ranks might be lower than ours, but judging from the sound of their breathing, their strength is nothing to scoff at…’

Marcus Monroe quickly made a hand signal, and the two of them left the area once again.

They only slowed to a stop after retreating a safe distance away.

“Those people… do you think Summers Twelve brought them…?” Paige Summers asked hesitantly.

Marcus Monroe put an arm around her shoulder. “Not necessarily.”

Paige Summers silently shook her head, casting aside the distracting thoughts. No matter what, their priority now was to break the siege on their ship. The Shaman’s Blinding Technique had a time limit; it would wear off in two hours, and their trip back and forth had already eaten up some of that time.

“Let’s wait for now,” Marcus Monroe said.

The enemy’s intentions, their hidden cards, and even their leader remained unclear. Although deploying so many Superpower Users was most likely an order from the Lord of Morindale Island, the operation was very likely connected to Summers Twelve.

‘If possible, I still want to get Summers Twelve out of here,’ Marcus Monroe thought. ‘So, rushing out to fight would be a bad idea. The best plan right now is a waiting game. Once they lose their patience and make a move, we’ll definitely be able to find an opening!’

Both Paige Summers and Marcus Monroe were remarkably patient when it came to dealing with enemies.

This time, however, they were on a clock.

Half an hour passed quickly.

Only about an hour remained before the Blinding Technique failed.

Paige Summers slowly rose to her feet. “This isn’t working. We need to find a way to make them antsy.” After a moment of thought, she said, “You stay here and watch their movements. I’ll go create a diversion.”

Marcus Monroe nodded. “Be careful.”

Paige Summers smiled, and with a flicker of movement, she was gone.

She ran in the direction of District R3 again.

However, creating chaos in District R3 probably wouldn’t be enough to make the ambushers antsy.

As Paige Summers neared the wall of District R2, various plans flashed through her mind. In the end, she took out her Crossbow.

This Crossbow was not quite the same as the ones she had used before.

It was larger and heavier.

Its greatest advantage was its maximum range of a thousand meters.

It also utilized power converted from Crystal Cores.

After taking it out, Paige Summers didn’t fire immediately. Instead, she tied a miniature bomb to the arrowhead.

She had gotten these gadgets from Marcus Monroe a while back.

The added bomb would likely shorten the Crossbow’s range, but crossing the wall of District R2 wouldn’t be a problem.

Paige Summers pressed her lips together, adjusted the angle, and fired an arrow!

A massive explosion echoed from within District R2, immediately followed by screams and shouts… Paige Summers didn’t linger; she circled along the wall to the next spot.

She fired another bomb!

Flames and voices erupted into a cacophony. In this way, she fired a total of five bombs, plunging District R2 into temporary chaos.

After completing her task, she quickly withdrew.

Meanwhile, Marcus Monroe had already seen the effects.

The chaotic noise from District R2 might not have reached him, but the red glow of the fires was visible. Besides, with trouble in R2, how could R3 remain quiet? Patrol teams were rushing toward the scene, and residents were coming out to see what was happening. All in all, these disturbances made the Superpower Users hiding outside the secret harbor lose their calm composure.

When Paige Summers returned, there was finally some movement from the enemy’s side.

First, a man stood up and shouted, “Everyone, come on out! Since they dare to cause trouble in the city, we don’t need to hold back! Tear this whole place apart!”

By “tear this whole place apart,” he meant the thickets and the tunnel.

Paige Summers and Marcus Monroe realized that this stranger intended to destroy the harbor.

They remained hidden, not moving a muscle.

With their superior numbers, the enemy quickly cleared the thickets, revealing the tunnel entrance. At that moment, an Earth Ability User stepped forward and began to move the earth from the tunnel’s roof, section by section, to either side.

Paige Summers looked at Marcus Monroe. He mouthed two words: “Wait longer.”

Just then, another figure did indeed step out to stand beside the commander. With long hair coiled in a bun and a delicate figure, it was clearly a woman!

As soon as the commander saw the woman, he quickly lowered his head slightly, whispering something to her in what looked like a plea.

Marcus Monroe and Paige Summers knew at once—their chance had come!

In perfect sync, they burst forward at top speed, leaving a trail of afterimages as they lunged toward the pair.

Their sudden appearance caught the enemy completely off guard. Even though the Superpower Users on the perimeter spotted them, they were nowhere near as fast. These Superpower Users were well-trained, however, and reacted quickly, spreading out and launching superpower attacks at them!

But Paige Summers and Marcus Monroe had no intention of fighting. Using their superior speed, they completely evaded the attacks!

Their goal was to take a hostage!

The enemy commander had some skill. Seeing the situation, he first tried to move the woman beside him back, but Marcus Monroe gave him no chance to act, sending a flurry of cold steel straight at him.

Meanwhile, Paige Summers, wielding her Short Sword, appeared behind the woman like a phantom. The cold, glinting edge of her blade rested lightly against the woman’s neck.
