Chapter 526: Clan Leader (Part 2)
Chapter 526 -369: Clan Leader (Part 2)
“Mmm…”
Cuddled in his arms, Paige Summers thought of her son. She wished he would grow up faster so she could take him with her wherever she went. ‘I’ll teach him so many things,’ she thought. ‘Things like Artifact Making, combat, when to be ruthless, and when to have a forgiving heart…’
The night seemed to fade in the blink of an eye, revealing a gray, hazy sky.
Paige Summers and Marcus Monroe got ready and headed for the location they had agreed on the day before.
So far, there had been no unusual activity in the R1 and R2 districts. The Shaman and Rhonda Rhodes had either not made their move yet, or something else was afoot. Paige wasn’t worried about them. With Wade’s abilities, they wouldn’t be at a disadvantage. The worst-case scenario was that the Vortex couldn’t be stopped…
‘But we’ll find a way.’
Before long, they arrived at the tea house.
Rovarians love tea, so just like taverns, tea houses were plentiful in the district. This particular one was nothing special, but according to Summers Twelve, he was on good terms with the owner, which was why he had chosen this place.
When they went inside, however, they didn’t see the owner. Instead, they simply gave Shawn Summers’s name and were led to a private tea room.
A young man was already sitting inside.
He was rather good-looking. Although his skin was a bit dark and he looked a little mature for his age, his eyes shone brightly.
Paige Summers’s first impression of him was quite good, and she guessed that he must be Shawn Summers.
A person’s eyes can reveal a lot.
Take Summers Eight, whom she had seen yesterday; his eyes were very murky. He wasn’t even that old, but he gave off the impression of being in his twilight years. This Shawn Summers, however, had a relatively clear gaze.
The moment Paige Summers and Marcus Monroe entered, the door was closed behind them.
Shawn Summers paused, then suddenly prostrated himself on the floor before Paige Summers in a grand gesture of respect. “Shawn Summers greets the Clan Leader!” he said.
Paige Summers was taken aback for a moment, then helped him up.
“Did Twelve tell you everything? But I’m not the Clan Leader. The Summers Family has no Clan Leader right now, and back in Astoria… I’m the only one left.”
‘A Clan Leader of one? How tragic!’
Shawn Summers sat down with them and said firmly, “Twelfth Uncle said that a daughter takes her father’s place. Since Uncle Dylan is gone, you are the Clan Leader of the Summers Family!”
Paige Summers smiled and didn’t argue further, tacitly accepting the title.
‘Summers Twelve was probably worried I would abandon these clan members, so he instructed Shawn this way… It’s unnecessary, in my opinion. Still, I won’t refuse it anymore.’
“Tell me,” she said. “The details about that outer island, and how you usually get there.”
“…That’s the gist of it. If the Clan Leader can’t set a specific time, I can rent the boat first and have it ready. We can take it whenever we need to leave. Plus, the inlet is very remote. Even if someone were to chase us, they wouldn’t immediately think we’d be escaping by boat from there. What do you think?” Shawn Summers asked respectfully.
Paige Summers nodded.
“You’ve been very thorough. Let’s do it your way.”
As she spoke, she folded up the map Shawn Summers had drawn on the table.
“With this, we’ll definitely find it without any trouble.”
Shawn Summers let out an imperceptible sigh of relief. “That’s good. I’ll go stand watch today and arrange for the boat. Then we can leave directly!”
Marcus Monroe suddenly interjected, “What’s the plan for Summers Eight?”
Paige Summers blinked and looked at Shawn Summers.
A cold glint flashed in Shawn Summers’s eyes. He said bluntly, “He doesn’t know about any of this, and I don’t plan on telling him. I don’t care what happens to him afterward. Although he’s my biological father, he never raised me for a single day. Especially after my mother died, I would have starved to death if it weren’t for Twelfth Uncle. Besides, a man like him isn’t worthy of being one of the Summers. In my life, I only recognize Twelfth Uncle as my father!”
Paige Summers was very satisfied with his answer.
She said, “I plan to go see him before we leave. After all, he was once a member of the Summers family. Where does he usually hang out?”
Shawn Summers felt it was completely unnecessary. He also told her bluntly that he was afraid Summers Eight would betray them to the Lord of Morindale Island.
But Paige Summers mentioned that they were all that was left of the Summers Family. Even though Summers Eight was the way he was, since they had recognized her as Clan Leader, she felt she should meet him no matter what. After seeing him, she would warn him not to speak carelessly.
Shawn Summers seemed to realize something. He gave her Summers Eight’s address, opened his mouth as if to say something, but ultimately remained silent.
He sighed helplessly in his heart.
‘This young, beautiful Clan Leader must be unable to let go of what happened back then. She’s going to teach the main culprit a lesson. Since she needs to keep her movements hidden, she probably won’t just kill him outright. In that case, letting Summers Eight be taught a lesson isn’t a bad thing.’
‘That man really is despicable.’
‘If it weren’t for him, he and Twelfth Uncle would have already met up with the rest of the Summers clan. They might have been living on the island that rightfully belongs to the Summers Family, or they might have returned to Astoria. But even if they had all died together, it would have been far better than this life of constantly bowing and scraping!’
However, he never would have guessed that from the moment she heard about Summers Eight’s deeds, Paige Summers had no intention of letting him live…
She calmly found the murky-eyed Summers Eight, and Paige Summers simply fed him a slow-acting poison. As for beating him, she found it beneath her. The only physical blow was a kick from Marcus Monroe when the man first leered at her. But that one kick was enough to leave him laid up in his shabby little hut for ten days to half a month.
Paige Summers didn’t care if anyone found out.
She guessed that if Summers Twelve weren’t still useful, this Summers Eight would have likely been killed long ago!
She also noticed that no one had tailed them to their meeting with Shawn Summers this time. In other words, those people were likely only monitoring Summers Twelve and had no suspicions about Shawn. This meant that meetings between Summers Twelve and Shawn Summers were probably relatively safe.
Of course, that was just a guess.
Only time would tell what the reality of the situation was.
