Chapter 140. Unbelievable 2.
As Miller and everyone in the command center stared at the screen, the crimson arrows rained down with swift, precise speed. They were so fast that they turned into crimson phantoms streaking across the skies.
They shot towards different directions.
"Sir, the arrows are not just shooting towards the northern district, they are headed towards all the districts of the outpost," an operative seated behind the holographic computer said with shock.
"Same report here, sir."
"Same..."
The operatives seated behind the holographic computers reported the same thing to Miller.
"Zoom in on all the districts properly. We need to have a clearer view of what is happening," Miller commanded.
"Yes, sir," an operative replied.
A very large holographic screen appeared across the room. The hologram split into four sections, each section representing the situation across the four districts of the outpost.
What they saw left them shocked.
Crimson phantoms streaked downwards from the skies. They tore through the flesh of chaotic beasts with precise lethality.
Dull thuds started responding across the four districts of the base.
Rank 2 and rank 1 chaotic beasts were falling like flies.
Somewhere, a rank 2 warrior was almost pummeled by a ginormous, lizard-looking chaotic beast wreathed in rocks.
She closed her eyes, about to succumb to her fate.
Suddenly, a crimson streak flashed across her eyes.
The sound of flesh being pierced rang through her ears.
The next thing she saw left her shocked.
The creature about to kill her halted motion. For a moment, nothing happened.
Then, blood splurged across the head of the lizard.
A bloody hole had appeared in its head.
It plummeted down on the ground, dead.
The crimson phantom stopped moving, revealing a crimson arrow hovering on the corpse of the giant lizard-like creature for a second. Then, the crimson arrow turned into a phantom again and streaked towards another direction.
Who? Who had just slayed a legendary rank 2 chaotic beast with just a single strike?
In another place, a group was surrounded by 200 large rank 2 chaotic beasts. The rank 2 chaotic beasts looked like giant rabbits. They had vine-like protrusions shooting from their limbs. The vine-like protrusions went straight towards the group of warriors.
They were all wounded, leaning against a broken building.
Their healer lay sprawled on the ground in a pool of her blood, dead.
They were fucked. Their healing elixirs were out. They had also run out of worldly energy. Apart from that, they didn’t have any worldly energy recovery elixirs on them.
"We are outnumbered."
"Shit... command has really abandoned us."
"Are the rumors really true? That Aiden Vhorn, a recently blacklisted operative, was sent here as solo reinforcement?"
"A single operative was sent here to die with us!"
"Damn it."
"We are done for?"
"Fuck Command!"
Suddenly, streaks of azure phantoms flashed across the place.
Puchi... Puchi... Puchi...
Sounds of flesh being pierced resounded in their ears.
As quickly as the crimson phantoms appeared, they shot towards a different direction.
The operatives saw the vine-like attacks of the rabbit-looking chaotic beasts disappear. Then, blood splurged from the heads of the giant, rabbit-looking chaotic beasts.
Large surgical holes appeared in their heads. The rabbit-looking chaotic beasts fell into some buildings and flattened the buildings as they let out weak squeaks.
Then, the eyes went lifeless. They lay sprawled on the ground, dead.
They had been killed.
The operatives were relieved that they had survived.
But they were extremely shocked.
"I’ve heard about the rumors about the Crimson Reaper. But I’ve got to witness firsthand how powerful he is with my own eyes."
"Indeed. What the hell were those things? How were they so fast?"
"And where the hell is the Crimson Reaper? He’s nowhere around this place. So, how’s he able to launch such coordinated attacks? How terrifying!"
"That does not matter now. We need to get to safety first."
"Right."
All across outpost 47, similar occurrences happened.
The rank 1 and rank 2 chaotic beasts fell like flies.
Operatives saw crimson streaks of light flashing across chaotic beasts. The end result was always the same. Chaotic beasts fell with dull thuds. They had bloody holes in their heads.
****
In the command center, the room was completely silent.
Miller and everyone in the room watched everything with shock and silence etched on their faces.
They could not process what they were watching.
Across the outpost, all the rank 1 and rank 2 chaotic beasts in and outside the four districts were dead.
There were thousands of them.
But they were all dead.
A single person had slaughtered them all.
In less than five minutes.
He had overturned the situation completely.
How was this even possible?
Miller had been a captain for several years. He had seen his fair share of situations. So, he was a battle-hardened operative with experience. He hardly lost his cool.
But today was different...
How could a single legendary rank 2 warrior who had not been a warrior for more than a year and half, overturn the situation singlehandedly, when all his legendary rank 2 lieutenants, who were more experienced in battle, and had served at the Frontlines for about 15 years, had died to these chaotic beasts?
The silence in the room stretched on.
It was very suffocating.
Everything they had just watched was unbelievable.
Miller finally composed himself after several minutes.
"Command most likely sent him here to die with us. Blacklisted operatives experience that all the time. However, this guy has turned this place into his playground. But this works in our favor. Now that all the rank 1 and rank 2 threats have been dealt with, we can find a way to deal with the thirteen beginner rank 3 horde commanders," Miller mused inwardly.
"Switch the feed to operative Vhorn," Miller commanded.
An operative behind one of the holographic screens snapped out of his reverie and tapped on the feed.
Aiden Vhorn floated above the northern district in what looked like a crimson battlesuit.
All the crimson arrows he sent across the outpost to assassinate the rank 1 and rank 2 chaotic beasts returned towards him. They turned into something like crimson blobs and returned into him.
Aiden closed his eyes for a moment and absorbed the blood essence of all corpses of beasts and fallen operatives in a one-kilometer radius.
After that, his figure flashed across the four districts with swift speed as he absorbed the blood essence of every corpse he came across.
Soon, he was done.
His range of vision, smell, and hearing increased considerably, and he felt strength coursing to him more than previously. He had made progress. He had still not broken through. But progress was progress.
"It’s about time I find the captain and ask about those poisons we can use to deal with the horde commanders," Aiden thought.
He looked at an operative relaxing against the wall of the eastern district.
"Hello," Aiden spoke to them politely.
The operative was taken aback.
"Can you direct me to the captain of the base?"
"Ah... um... yes sir... absolutely... sir." The operative stared at the Crimson Reaper with devotion. In his opinion, this man’s actions had saved the base. Aiden didn’t know what this operative or any other one was thinking. Neither would he have cared.
Aiden simply nodded. "Thank you. But it won’t be necessary anymore to look for him."
Before the operative could reply, Captain Miller’s figure appeared from the distance.
