Everyone at the table looked at their phone screens in shock.
They knew about Burning Sands City. It was one of those crime-infested cities across empires in the four continents of Endra, left by the Global Warriors Association for dead.
Burning Sands City was located at the edge of the Hessington State of the Eldorath Empire.
A city like that had been eliminated by someone... wait...
Aiden’s friends looked at him.
Before he left 11 months ago, he told them he was going to Burning Sands City. They assumed he wanted to be around the forests and mountains there to train. But they didn’t think...
Don’t tell me...
How?
As for the parents of his friends, Aiden’s friends just told them he was away from the city. For the sake of respecting Aiden’s privacy, his friends didn’t tell their parents Aiden’s actual location when he was away. They only knew that Aiden was last seen in Airo City. This was because their children told them the last time they heard from Aiden, he said he was in Airo City. After that, Aiden went radio silent.
But from the expressions on the faces of their children as they looked at Aiden, who had his legs crossed, laid back, casually enjoying the barbecue, a thought occurred to them.
Airo City was close to Burning Sands... could it be...
They ran various scenarios in their heads... but it was not possible. They didn’t look down on the young man’s potential. But some things were just too hard to accept.
Only Aiden was calm. He was currently enjoying some barbecue, completely oblivious to why everyone was staring at their phone screens. He had not eaten in a very long time. So, he was quietly enjoying the food.
Everyone tapped on the video.
Curious, Aiden shrugged and tapped on the video too.
"Shit... more people will want me dead now," Aiden sighed inwardly. It seemed the satellites of the Warriors Association had picked up on some of his activities in Burning Sands City, and they had decided to broadcast it for the whole state to know. As for the reasons for why they wanted to broadcast it, it didn’t matter to him.
"I need to be careful in the military. Some people will see me as a threat and will want me dead. This is how this world works," Aiden thought.
After watching the beginning of the video where he came out of the gate, he already knew the sequence of events that would follow. He closed it and returned back to eating.
But the same could not be said for everyone across the table.
The moment they tapped the video, the camera panned across a city flooded with water.
Affinities flew across the place as ginormous ocean-looking creatures ravaged the place and clashed with criminals.
The camera zoomed to the entrance of a gate.
Four individuals, two men and two women with menacing demeanors, were using aerial maneuvering to sustain themselves above the flooded city.
Trailing behind them were thousand warriors.
The four crime lords decided to enter the gate after having a brief conversation.
Then, the gate started to shimmer.
A figure stepped out.
Tall, brown hair all over his face. Black eyes. Dressed casually. Tall, lean, about 1.85 meters.
One of the figures with menacing demeanors asked him who he was.
He didn’t mind them. He muttered something underneath his breath which left the people in front of him puzzled.
Then, a crimson blade appeared before him.
He started trimming his hair.
After that, his face came into full view.
Everyone saw him clearly. Crimson eyes.
The signature blood-related affinity. The face. The brown hair.
There was no denying it.
Everyone looked across the table.
It was the same person seated before them.
They looked at the caption of the video again...
It sunk in.
It was really Aiden Vhorn.
What sort of anomaly was this fellow?
He closed a rank 2 gate alone??? How was that even possible?
Aiden was eating casually. After eating, he started playing a game on his phone.
A sharp contrast to the looks of the people around him.
They kept watching the video.
The four people leading the entourage before the gate nodded. Then they spoke to someone to do something.
Very soon, a large horde of warriors from all across the city arrived.
Soon, a large crimson sword blotted out the skies with sheer scale and overwhelming malevolence.
The figure seated from across them in the garden had crimson wings on his back in the video. He floated in the skies as he flapped his crimson wings.
His eyes were crimson and his brown hair fluttered.
Large-scale attacks tore through the air towards him.
He evaded them with swift dexterity.
That was when it sank in.
Aiden Vhorn was now a legendary rank 2 warrior.
In the span of just 11 months, he had gone from being a legendary rank 1 warrior to being a legendary rank 2 warrior?
This guy was undoubtedly the most terrifying genius to have ever appeared in the Eldorath Empire.
There was no doubt about it.
Their gazes snapped back to the video.
Aiden finally acted. The crimson sword blotting out the skies descended.
It blinked. Then it appeared before the thousands of city residents now retreating.
They had realized he was not someone they could take on.
Four legendary rank 2 crime lords, thousands of rank 2 warriors, and other warriors from the city turned around, abandoned their attacks, and fled.
But they were too late.
The crimson sword sliced through thousands of bodies at the same time.
One slice.
Body parts flew apart. Blood fell ceaselessly.
Buildings crumbled.
Soon, silence followed.
The crimson sword turned into blobs of blood and returned into the figure who had just committed a large-scale massacre.
The camera panned across. Buildings lay in ruins. Innumerable corpses and body parts lay strewn across the place. Blood flowed ceaselessly.
A figure with crimson eyes floated in the sky with crimson wings and a calm, nonchalant expression. He looked like a god of death.
Suddenly, the screen went black. The video was over.
Everyone at the table looked at Aiden.
It was as if the calm, ordinary-looking person playing a game on his phone was completely different from the one who had just slaughtered millions and solo closed a rank 2 gate. Also, why was he playing a game on his phone? Was this how he was supposed to be acting right now? Was what he had done some sort of trivial task to him?
This was what made it more puzzling and made Aiden more terrifying.
No one spoke a word.
They were too shocked to speak.
What Aiden had done was something that would shake the whole empire.
This was because in the history of the empire, no rank 2 warrior had soloed a rank 2 gate alone before.
And no legendary rank 2 warrior had ever slaughtered such a large number of rank 1 and rank 2 warriors before with just a single strike.
The most absurd part of it was that... the person behind this had been a warrior in just a year and some weeks.
And to top it all, he was barely 20 years old.
Aiden’s loved ones were right.
Because the video had spread to every nook and cranny of the Eldorath Empire.
And currently, every location in the empire where eyes had seen the video was silent.
The name, The Crimson Reaper, had finally sunk in.
