Chapter 142. Fall of the Horde Commanders
Aiden controlled the crimson arrows effortlessly.
The thirteen crimson arrows traced through the air. They spun, coated and stained with the illusion-based poisons. They spun, streaking across the forests in the Red Faults.
As they neared the thirteen horde commanders, they shrunk considerably into very tiny sizes.
’This should make it difficult for the horde commanders to notice them,’ Aiden thought.
The thirteen horde commanders, led by the lightning fox, were very perceptive.
Their gazes flashed across the place for a moment. They felt some slight change in the wind current around them. But they didn’t see anything.
Brushing it off as a random occurrence, they continued heading towards the base.
The base should have lost all their defenses by now.
There would be a lot of human meat to eat when they arrive there.
As for the lightning fox, it was still holding a grudge against that human who injured it several years ago.
When it returned to its habitat after that level of disgrace, it was teased and made fun of for a very long time.
This time, it would kill that human, eat every part of the human’s body, and return with the human’s head to the fox territory in the Red Faults to show them that it was not a loser anymore.
The thirteen horde commanders took a few more steps forward.
Suddenly, they felt some prickling sensation in their eyes.
The crimson arrows of Aiden, coated with the illusion-based poisons, had penetrated their eyes.
Their eyes were the only weak spots Aiden could penetrate through. Every other part of their bodies were either covered in thick scales, or were too hard to penetrate.
Also, their eyes were closer to their central nervous system than any other part of their bodies he could think of. The earlier the poisons traveled through their blood vessels to their brains, the better.
For a few moments, nothing happened.
Aiden was observing them. Those in the base would be able to see them from the base if they took several steps forward.
The effects of the illusion-based poisons had to kick in anytime now.
Suddenly, the creatures roared.
Their movements became uncoordinated and disoriented.
Aiden felt the demeanors in their eyes shift.
"It worked."
Whatever illusions the creatures were under did not matter to him. But the poisons worked.
The 13 horde commanders staggered around and wailed.
Although they still took steps forward towards the base, it was because they were under illusions, not because they were in charge of their faculties.
The operatives at the base, gathered on the walls, finally saw the mountain-sized colossal horde commanders approaching the base from a distance.
The creatures looked extremely domineering and suffocating. Affinities streaked across their bodies.
However, their movements were strange. It was as if they were absentminded. They flailed their limbs around unnecessarily and launched random affinity attacks towards different directions. For sentient creatures, something like this was off.
This was when it clicked.
It really worked. Aiden Vhorn’s plan worked.
Everyone near Miller stared at Aiden Vhorn.
He was calm, completely unfazed by what he had just pulled off. It was as if what he had just pulled off was a simple chore he had accomplished.
But everyone else was compelled, stupefied by his level of marksmanship and affinity manipulation.
To be able to launch precise affinity attacks without missing a single target from the walls of the base, towards the Red Faults, stretching several kilometers away, without missing the target, was not something normal.
They all remembered what he had done earlier. He sent several crimson arrows formed from his blood-related affinity to all the districts of the base to kill the beasts there.
Aiden Vhorn had terrifying eyesight. His enhanced senses were off the charts compared to other warriors.
It made sense now that he was able to pinpoint the exact location of the thirteen horde commanders, whose location scouts from the base had to sacrifice themselves to discover.
But still, just because one saw a target didn’t mean one could land an accurate attack on them, given the distance between Aiden and them. Aiden Vhorn was simply too abnormal.
"Since they are already in range, I don’t think I have to lead you to their location, Captain." Aiden’s words snapped Miller and everyone else from their thoughts.
"Indeed," Miller said.
His figure shot towards the horizon as he equipped his battlesuit. Azure flames trailed across his figure as he shot towards the horde commanders.
"15 seconds left," Aiden sent him a comm message. Only 15 seconds remained for the effects of the illusion-based poisons to wear off.
"Roger," Miller replied.
He waved his right hand as he stopped moving, flames dancing beneath his feet, keeping him midair.
He was a kilometer away from the horde commanders. If he moved within their range, their random affinity attacks would kill him. He needed to attack from a safe distance.
Several large flames billowed and rolled forward.
The flames merged into several azure birds. The bird-shaped flame constructs were very large. They blotted out the skies.
Everyone at the base was awed.
Even Aiden had to admit that Miller was extremely powerful. Rank 3 warriors were no joke.
Even from the base walls, everyone could feel the intensity of the heat generated from Miller’s power.
Miller pointed his hand forward. The flame birds shot towards the horde commanders.
In the blink of an eye, the flame birds appeared before them.
Then, the flame birds made contact with their figures.
Because they were still under the effects of the illusion-based poisons and were in illusions, the 13 horde commanders were open; they didn’t defend or retaliate.
The azure flame birds turned into large azure flames and spread across their bodies.
"5 seconds more," Aiden reminded Miller.
"Roger," Miller replied.
He turned into an azure streak and returned to the base walls.
The effects of the illusion-based poisons wore off.
The 13 horde commanders screamed and flailed around. They leaped into the air, hollered through the clouds and appeared a few meters away from the base walls in maddened rage. Someone from the base had tricked them and launched an attack on them.
These insolent humans!
However, they were too late.
The azure flames had already ravaged their figures completely.
The smell of roasted flesh permeated the area.
The lightning fox was unwilling to die.
How was this possible?
The other horde commanders felt the same way.
These were their last thoughts before their vision blanketed. They collapsed on the ground, near the base walls.
Their affinities disappeared as they let out weak screams and breathed their last.
For a moment, the base operatives felt despair. They thought the plan had failed.
If not, why were the beasts still approaching the walls after Miller’s attack?
But only now did the reality of the situation kick in.
The creatures were dead. The thirteen horde commanders had been killed.
Everyone looked at the crimson-eyed fellow with brown hair billowing in the wind, a calm expression on his face.
It had not been 30 minutes since Aiden Vhorn arrived at the base. Yet because of him, a beast tide everyone at the outpost believed was their death sentence was over.
He had slaughtered all the rank 2 and rank 1 beasts singlehandedly and engineered a tactical, monstrous plan which had led to the deaths of thirteen beginner rank 3 horde commanders without any casualties.
Yes, Captain Miller played a key role in the plan which killed the thirteen beginner rank 3 horde commanders.
But everyone, including Miller himself, knew that had Aiden Vhorn not come up with this plan, and used his terrifying marksmanship and affinity manipulation to inject the poisons into the horde commanders, everyone at the base would be dead now.
This fellow was not only a monstrous combatant.
He was a terrifying tactician who could not be judged with common sense.
