Chapter 128: The village Chief’s resurrection

Virena had killed the Chief. Jimmy was aware of that now.

Between the moment of chaos when the Chief first attacked, she had evaded the thunderous blow, and had torn his chest open with a Fire Sphere. Jimmy was eternally grateful, because he knew he wouldn’t be able to brace himself for a second thunder-bolt, and heal his brother at the same time.

Vorin was okay now, even more so after he stopped attacking the ’light’ in the middle of the field. He was safe-ish.

The main problem now was this colorful creature.

Jimmy couldn’t comprehend its form even if he cranked his Enlightened Eyes skill to the maximum. It still scared him a little bit, despite the myriad of attacks he had thrown against it.

The latter was part of a greater problem. It was hard to fight an opponent who seemed to take minimal damage from the team’s heaviest, hottest attacks.

Jimmy even popped out his Retractable Razor Armor, just so he could throw a couple of spikes at it, from the four-inch long spikes that developed on his neck.

That was the only ranged attack he had left, and he used it thrice. After the third shot, the projectile razors fell behind a cooldown timer, from the looks of it. He didn’t know how long it would take to shoot those razors again, he hadn’t experimented enough with it, and he didn’t intend to wait for them either.

Now was the time to do a tactical retreat, which is why he asked Vorin to retreat to begin with. He knew what was coming.

Virena kept the entity busy with her Fire Spears, but she needed two-to-three seconds to charge her attacks. At this point, she was close to setting the flat-lands around the lake on fire, but horrifyingly, that wasn’t enough to defeat this monstrosity.

When her hits connected, she had no trouble temporarily staggering, or overwhelming the creature, but her two-second delay between her shots swiftly became a problem!

This thing, this monstrosity of seemingly endless durability, and constantly changing shapes, needed just one second to flip the battle upside down!

A part of its body, which at that moment, was an array of stingray tails, fish heads, and goat legs, stretched towards the Chief, and enveloped his body whole.

In a snap, its disgusting, fat arm of excess limbs then disappeared, as if it dissipated in thin air!

Slowly but surely, the Chief’s motionless, nay, lifeless body, began to move! It managed to resurrect him!

Jimmy spotted this. He was the only one who could see in the dark, for one thing, but he had also been looking at where the creature stretched out its arm.

Virena attacked the ’light’ again, but this did not matter now. The resurrection was already successful, and the Chief’s movements, although slow, were still infinitely intimidating!

"Virena, get back here!" Jimmy shouted, whistling in her language.

He rushed towards her at the same time, and the moment the Chief got on his knees, and was about to stand up, Virena landed on Jimmy’s back.

"We’re getting out of here, brother, follow me if you can." He said.

Vorin did what he was told, which tonight, came in handy more than it ever did. The moonlight was just enough for him to follow his brother.

They fled the battle, and just like clock-work, a thunderbolt followed after them five seconds later!

Jimmy took a deep dive, pulled his wings in, and performed a half, front flip, just to face the thunderbolt directly.

He had expected this attack.

He was somewhat aware of Necromancy, and quite simply, no one would resurrect a Mage for anything passive, or nice. The thunderbolt was a not-so-subtle hint of the intent behind this horrifying creature’s Necromancy.

The Chief’s core, although valuable, was simply impossible to harvest right now. Their plan fell in the water.

Anyway, since he had pulled his wings in, his speed was staggered, and so Vorin managed to beam above him, and then slipped in front of him.

The latter fact made the defense that Jimmy summoned a lot more effective. He could now both protect his brother, and himself.

Naturally, he summoned the Elemental Shield.

The Chief’s thunderbolt attack raged across the air. A sharp, crackling sound of electricity followed the bolt, signifying the great amounts of electricity.

When the bolt hit Jimmy’s Elemental Shield, the deafening boom, after the thunder, echoed across the lands! A narrow array of blue light was somewhere in the mix, shedding a dim light.

Horrifying, powerful, sure, but this theater of power was nothing compared to the impact!

The bolt hit Jimmy’s shield, and broke through its first layer almost instantly!

The hit was as violent as before, because Jimmy found himself being pushed forward by several feet. When the bolt broke through the second layer, Jimmy had been tossed several feet forward, all the way to his brother, nearly bulldozing through him!

Thankfully, the physical impact stopped there, because if he ended up hurting either his brother, or himself, he wouldn’t be able to undo the damage. He had run out of mana.

Thankfully, the shield didn’t require any, as it seeped power out of his Arcane Comprehension, rather than his Mana Pool. If that wasn’t the case, their physical structure would’ve been fried out of existence already.

The thunderbolt nearly broke the third layer of the Elemental Shield as well, nearly, but thankfully, it couldn’t. The shield absorbed the entirety of the blow.

It was hard to believe that all of this happened within three seconds once the Chief unleashed the bolt. There were so many details within the action that couldn’t be ignored.

Although horrifying, Jimmy remembered every detail, every wing flap, and every deep root of accelerating cracks within his shield. He saw it all, and in the end, his sour emotions towards the Chief and the ’entity’ were entirely selfish.

He dreaded the fact that he couldn’t steal the Chief’s core, and likewise, he dreaded the fact that they couldn’t kill, and harvest this entity as well. Both of them looked like they had high-value items, or cores, and he thought that it was a waste that he couldn’t harvest them.

Nevertheless, they were out of the woods for now. By the time the shield absorbed the thunderous blow, the team were a hundred feet away from the enemy, and by the time the Chief had the chance to charge up another bolt, the team was practically gone.

They were a quarter across the lake already, nevermind the lush green fields!

The Chief shot another bolt, but it never connected. It couldn’t, because although the Chief was precise with his attacks, he wasn’t a god. The bolt seared through the lake.

Jimmy remained greedy.

As they neared the village, he said, "Let’s go grab as many Flesh Cores as we fucking can!"

He thought, ’We might have five minutes at most...’
