Chapter 557 - 587: They Must Have All Been Worried Sick
"Your parents were here watching over you earlier, but it got too late, so I had them go home. The doctor said you’ve just been working and studying too hard without paying much attention to your health. You’re also a little anemic, but it’s nothing serious. Just get some rest, and we can check out tomorrow."
"Quick, call my parents and tell them I’m awake and okay."
"Okay. And Jiao Jiao, is there anything you want to eat? You still haven’t had dinner."
’I was supposed to be having a big feast, but then I suddenly fainted. There was no time to eat anything.’
Now that Shen Yi mentioned it, Qin Jiao realized she really was hungry. She rubbed her stomach and said, "I’m suddenly craving some chive and egg dumplings."
"Alright, you wait here. I’ll call the courtyard house first to let them know you’re okay, then I’ll go out and buy you some dumplings."
"Okay."
Qin Jiao watched Shen Yi leave. She wasn’t sleepy anymore. Fainting earlier had been an accident, possibly caused by her own recent carelessness.
But thankfully, nothing was seriously wrong.
She was in a four-person ward. Of the three other beds, one was empty, and the other two were occupied by patients.
One of them was asleep. The other, an elderly grandmother, looked gently at Qin Jiao and asked, "Young lady, is that your husband?"
Qin Jiao nodded. "Mhm, yes he is."
"He’s a good young man. He was worried sick when you fainted. Later, when the doctor said you were pregnant, the very first thing he asked was whether *you* were okay."
Most men love children and would be overjoyed to hear their wife is pregnant.
But Shen Yi’s first reaction was to worry about Qin Jiao. He even asked if the baby was what made you faint.
The old woman smiled kindly. "You’re a very lucky young woman."
Qin Jiao smiled openly and nodded. "I am very lucky. I’ve met so many good people."
’Especially Shen Yi.’
Meanwhile, Shen Yi went to a phone booth and called the courtyard house. He told them that Qin Jiao was awake and that they would be staying at the hospital for the night and returning tomorrow.
Su Yun said, "Xiao Jiao hasn’t eaten anything yet. She must be starving, right?"
Shen Yi replied, "Mhm, she just said she was a little hungry and wanted some chive and egg dumplings. I’m about to go out and find a place to buy some for her."
"Where are you going to buy them this late? We have some ready to cook right here at home. If you drive back now, we can have them boiled and ready for you to take back."
Shen Yi considered it. That would work. After all, there weren’t many restaurants around the hospital.
The drive back and forth would only take about twenty minutes. Besides, he was worried Qin Jiao wouldn’t like food from anywhere else.
Back at the hospital, Qin Jiao was getting hungrier and hungrier the longer she waited. She couldn’t tell if it was her own hunger or the little one in her belly that was hungry.
’But then again,’ she thought, ’it’s only five months along. What does it know? It’s definitely not taking the blame for this.’
Qin Jiao was amused by her own thought. When she looked up again, she saw Shen Yi rushing back in.
It was April, so it wasn’t that hot in North City yet, but Shen Yi’s forehead was beaded with sweat.
"Where on earth did you go to buy these?"
"You’ll definitely love them."
Shen Yi set down the bag and took out two containers of dumplings, along with another container of refreshing pickled cucumber salad.
Seeing the familiar containers, Qin Jiao gasped in pleasant surprise. "You went back to the courtyard house? Did Mom make these herself?"
"Mhm. When they heard you were hungry, Mom said they had chives and eggs right at home, so she told me to go back and get them. They were all worried about you, so they’re all still at the courtyard house."
"Did my fainting scare them? It must have been tough on Mom. Oh, right, is Little Gu Duo okay?"
Qin Jiao remembered that the little girl had just been trying to get closer to her. Seeing her faint must have scared the poor thing half to death.
