Chapter 44: Not end well
After an intense brainstorming session, Cole finally managed to tweak and create a potion that might help him tame the monster.
"Lightning Affinity Elixir!" Cole muttered under his breath, with his two eyes glowing like twin lanterns.
He was nearly percent sure that this potion would work, made from his own Lightning Worm Leviathan bloodline, some exotic ingredients that were found in the Thunder Domain, and mana crystals.
Now there was no time to waste.
Cole went through the refining process and ingredients in his head for one last time. After taking another breath, he got to work.
In reality, there was nothing much that he had to do. The A.I. chip had already simulated him refining the potion for thousands of times. Every mistake that he could commit at each step was already clear. Now he just had to follow the instructions, and the potion would be refined in time.
With all these thoughts in mind, Cole lit up the flame and started heating the glass tube filled with his own blood.
"I can’t believe he is doing this again."
Ethan exclaimed with pure disbelief on his face. This wasn’t the first time that he had seen Cole do this absurd thing.
Refining a potion out in the open with little to no preparation.
Ethan watched each of Cole’s moves, looking for flaws.
"I have watched countless master potioners at work, but never in my life have I seen someone with such confidence. Potioneering is a very delicate process, most of the time done in an environment which is isolated from the outside to reduce the amount of factors that could affect it.
"In such a delicate process, sometimes even the flow of wind could cause the potion to fail, yet this fellow is refining a potion again in such an environment. Is he not worried about failure?
"Once the process fails, all the precious ingredients will go to waste."
He simply could not understand what this fellow was thinking. Either Cole was too stupid or simply the god of potioneering.
Although he had witnessed Cole’s impressive abilities firsthand, he doubted such a level of skill was possible.
With all these thoughts, he turned to look at his elder sister, expecting an explanation, but Jessica did not even blink, much less give an explanation, her eyes too focused on Cole’s actions.
As a former master herself, she knew just how hard creating something new was, yet here Cole looked completely relaxed.
Under the watchful eyes of the two Summers siblings, Cole continued what he was doing, not affected one bit.
Slowly, as he added the last ingredient to the potion, the mana crystal, immediately the potion’s color changed to deep azure from crimson red. Looking at it now, it would be difficult to tell that just a few moments ago the potion was red.
"Phew, this thing is finally finished...!"
Cole wiped the beads of sweat from his forehead, feeling every nerve in his body relax.
The moment the potion was completely finished, a subtle shockwave of spiritual pressure was released with the potion as the contents sprang to life. All the creatures who felt this shockwave felt a fierce attraction in their minds.
Stormhoof Kirin was silently munching on the grass when suddenly its ears twitched. Raising its hind legs upward in the air, it let out a neigh filled with excitement.
In its long lifespan, it had never felt a smell so enticing that directly hit its soul.
The monster’s six blue eyes lit up with desire. Without wasting any time, it eagerly ran in Cole’s direction.
...
Ethan and Jessica were feeling amazed when suddenly they heard the sound of rapidly closing steps. They had already experienced the horror of Stormhoof Kirin once, so they immediately became alert.
"Why is the monster coming back?!" Ethan muttered out loud, his head spinning at light speed.
Jessica, on the other hand, didn’t say anything, but simply looked at the potion in Cole’s hand as if implying the horse was here for the potion.
Ethan followed her line of sight and also realized what she was thinking. Immediately, a surge of anger filled his heart. Taking several bold strides, he closed the distance between him and Cole at fast speed, raising his hand to snatch the potion from Cole’s hand.
"Are you out of your mind?! If you aren’t familiar with the potion’s effect, why are you refining such a thing? Don’t you know your random experimenting could cost my life?
"You might not value your life, but the life of my elder sister is every priority. Even if thousands upon thousands like you die, even then you could not equal just one of her..."
He wanted to continue when Jessica’s extremely frosty voice echoed directly beside his ears.
"Ethan!"
A single word, and Ethan’s mouth froze. The venomous words that he was going to continue speaking didn’t dare come out.
Cole was initially enjoying the potion’s success when out of nowhere he heard Ethan’s rant. It would be a complete lie if he said he wasn’t pissed. Although he had a great impression of Ethan, this guy’s continuous actions were starting to get on his nerves. Usually without showing it, his eyes turned as cold as an ice glacier.
Slap!
"What did you—?!"
Ethan’s palm hurriedly moved to caress the burning handprint on his cheek, his eyes spitting flames. If looks could kill, Cole would have died a thousand times.
Cole was about to slap him on another cheek when he felt the Stormhoof Kirin approaching closer. He looked directly Ethan in the eyes, acting as if he could not see the anger in his gaze, looking directly he spoke word by word.
"Ethan, consider yourself lucky that you are in my good books. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have been able to get away with a simple slap."
Saying these words, he started walking away.
"You...!"
Meanwhile, Cole’s words caused Ethan’s anger to reach its peak. What did this guy mean, it would not end with a simple slap...?
