Chapter 43: Taming
No way a horse could ever survive in this environment...
The moment this thought popped into his head, Cole quickly shook his head to get rid of it.
By now, even the two Summers siblings further behind Cole had also noticed this strange creature coming closer.
Boxing his thoughts, Cole stopped and turned back. He didn’t want anything to happen to Jessica just because he was too far away. If that happened, it would be too sad.
So he quickly retreated.
Jessica’s face was pale as paper, her lips cracked. However, from the look of alertness in her eyes, one could easily tell how focused she was even in this terrible state.
"What is it, Sister...?"
Ethan also noticed the seriousness in his elder sister’s eyes. Compared to him, his elder sister was far more knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the world. If something could alert her, it was bound to be a significant threat.
Soon Cole also joined them. Seeing him return, Ethan let out a sigh of relief. Ethan felt he could let down his guard with Cole here.
Why are you looking at me like this...?
Cole inwardly rolled his eyes, but on the surface he simply nodded his head in an assured manner. It was clear he didn’t like Ethan, but there was no need for this fellow to be aware of his inner thoughts, right?
Under the watchful gaze of the three, the monster revealed itself, cutting through the grass effortlessly. It was a giant eight-foot-tall creature covered in dark sapphire scales that protected it from the random lightning currents. A thick silver mane that seemed to be made from silver lightning gave the creature a regal and graceful look, coupled with two spiral horns that were like pillars supporting the heavens. With each step the creature took, a shock of lightning current was generated, pushing the creature forward.
Ethan almost felt a chill run down his spine when the creature’s six glowing blue eyes focused on his figure.
A name almost instantly appeared in his mind.
Stormhoof Kirin!
A creature said to possess the blood of the abyssal monster Kirin.
Although he was not as knowledgeable as his elder sister, even then he knew about this creature.
A high-intelligence creature capable of seeing the true nature of things, moving effortlessly through the lightning grasslands, they were famously called the ships of the Thunder Domain. When it came to speed, they almost had no equal.
It was at this time Jessica’s cold warning echoed beside his ears.
"Stay still. Don’t move, or else you will be attacked..."
Ethan heard her words and his face paled.
"Why not run, Sister...? If this thing charges at us, we are dead."
Thinking up to this point, his face turned to Cole, as if asking, Why are you not doing anything?
Thankfully, however, Cole could not hear his thoughts. Otherwise, he would have definitely mocked Ethan without mercy.
Moron, idiot... how do you plan to outrun the creature that was known as the ship of the lightning grassland?
The three stood still like statues, not even moving a muscle. Hell, Cole didn’t dare to breathe too loudly, afraid of attracting the monster’s attention.
The lightning mist-like substance coming out of the horse’s nostrils gave him an eerie feeling.
Stormhoof Kirin scanned them with its six-eyed gaze for a moment, then after letting out a neigh filled with disdain, it tapped the ground a couple of times, destroying the grass surrounding it, then left.
No longer interested!
Cole watched the monster leave with a thoughtful look on his face.
Hmm, this is interesting... now that I think about it, back in Blessed Moon City there were no horses.
Then a puzzled look appeared on his face.
Although dangerous, this Stormhoof Kirin is very similar to a horse. Moreover, its nature wasn’t as bloodthirsty as other creatures...
Once his thoughts reached this point, an idea popped into his head.
Maybe I can try riding it.
It would be interesting to see what reaction the two Summers siblings would have if they knew what Cole was thinking.
They would definitely look at him as if he were some kind of madman.
However, their reaction was understandable if you thought about it.
Humanity in this world had been subjugated and abused by all sides. Their relations with every other race were very hostile. Any sane human warrior would prefer killing a monster than letting it remain close.
But Cole was different. He didn’t have the same mindset as them because of different circumstances. He could see beyond their biased perspective. It wasn’t that Cole was wise or anything. If he had had the same experiences growing up as the Summers siblings, he too would have thought the same.
Thinking of all these things, the gears in Cole’s mind turned. He extracted all the information about the Stormhoof Kirin from memory.
Maybe I can try refining a potion...
Cole already had an idea of how he was going to tame this horse.
Unlike humans, abyssal creatures were very hierarchical monsters, where your bloodline decided both your heritage and power. Cole’s idea was simple.
He might overpower the monster into submission using his superior Thunder Worm Leviathan bloodline.
However, this would not be enough.
What I want to do is tame the monster. The potion must also benefit the monster.
With that thought, he slightly modified the potion. Based on this idea, he instructed the A.I. chip to start researching, using the original’s research as a foundation.
Of course, creating a brand-new potion out of nowhere was a time-consuming process, but thankfully for Cole, the original had also researched in this field for some time before giving up. Before bloodline fusion, the original had wanted to tame the abyssal beast, but he had to give up on the idea, as the power difference between humans and abyssal monsters was just too great.
Imagine an ant trying to tame humans... absurd, right?
It was simply not feasible.
