Chapter 93: The One That Got Away
Without their modern weapons, the Captains on the beach started to panic.
Some of them sat on the ground, completely lost. Others quietly moved backward, ready to run at any moment.
Derek was shaking as he pointed at Kevin. "What did you do to our weapons? Did you give us fake stuff from the start?"
Kevin smiled, looking at Derek like he was an idiot. "You fool. You tried to shoot in front of the ’Mechanical Sovereign’? You don’t even know how to spell ’death.’"
"What do you mean?" Richard pointed at Kevin with a trembling hand.
Kevin looked at the grenades scattered on the ground near Richard’s feet. He grinned and said: "I mean... explode."
The moment he said it, the grenades that had rolled all over the place popped their safety pins.
Boom! Boom!
Boom! Boom!
In seconds, explosions went off one after another.
The Captains who had been staring them down were thrown everywhere. Some were standing right on top of the grenades. They were blown to pieces and died on the spot.
Even Richard was tossed around by the blast. He rolled on the ground, and the rocky skin all over his body cracked and fell off.
Suddenly, a huge butt landed right on Richard’s face.
"Pfft! Damn it! Whose stinky ass is this?"
He pushed the butt away, then realized something was wrong. He looked closer and saw that the butt was just a lower body. The upper half had been blown off from the waist. It was gone, blown somewhere else.
Richard screamed and threw the butt away.
Then a gun fell out of the pocket of that half-body.
Richard froze. He recognized it—it was Derek’s gun.
"Damn it!" Richard shouted. He forced himself to stand up, turned around, and ran.
But before he could get far, a ten-meter-long Dragon Form Mist Phantom flew right over his head. Its huge dragon claws grabbed Richard’s shoulders and dragged his giant body up into the air.
Richard struggled hard, but he couldn’t break free from the Dragon Form Mist Phantom’s claws.
Just then, several Falcon Form Mist Phantoms flew over as well. Two of them were carrying Derek, who was now just a chest and one arm. They brought him close to Richard.
When Richard saw that Derek was still alive, he let all his anger out. "Damn you! This is all your fault! If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have been stupid enough to try and rob those strong guys!"
Derek looked weak and barely glanced at Richard. "You dumb bootlicker. Why don’t you come and kiss my ass now?"
Richard completely lost his cool. He swung his huge fist and tried to smash Derek.
But the two Falcon Form Mist Phantoms screeched and dodged away quickly, avoiding Richard’s attack.
By then, they had already returned to the center of the explosion site.
Kevin stood on the beach, staring coldly at Richard and Derek. "Let’s talk. Where were you hiding just now?"
When Richard heard Kevin’s voice, he snapped back to his senses.
He quickly put away his stone skin and put on a face full of regret. "Please don’t kill me. I surrender. I can be your follower. I’ll call you master. I’ll lick your boots."
Kevin watched Richard cry and beg, then slowly formed the Lance of Longinus. "You like licking so much? Then go to hell and lick your dead buddies."
Kevin thrust the spear straight through Richard’s forehead.
The violent force blew his head to pieces. Even the blood evaporated into red mist from the holy light’s heat.
When Derek saw what happened to Richard, he shook with fear.
Just then, Kevin turned his head and met Derek’s eyes.
One look was enough. Derek’s mental defenses shattered completely. "You sneaky bastard. You’re strong! You killed three Eldritch giants and wiped out an entire island of Eldritch Entities. The Eldritch Artifacts you got must be countless."
Derek grinned. "Don’t think you’ve won. I’ll tell you the truth. My men and I recorded everything you did. We got every single one of your faces on camera."
"I know you can bring me back to life. Let me live, and I promise I won’t reveal your identities. Otherwise, you’ll be hunted across the entire Sea of Terror. With all the rewards you’ve taken, you’ll be the most tempting treasure in this whole ocean. No matter where you go, everyone will come after you. Cough, cough, cough..."
When Derek said the word "treasure: "he finally couldn’t hold back his injuries anymore and started coughing violently. Blood poured from the corners of his mouth, stopping him from speaking any further.
Kevin stared coldly at Derek and sneered: "If that’s really the case, then I should thank you."
Kevin snapped his fingers at the Falcon Form Mist Phantoms around him. "You’ve got two minutes. Take control of him and get all his secrets out."
The moment Kevin gave the order, the Falcon Form Mist Phantoms turned into red lights and shot straight into Derek’s forehead.
Derek, who had been barely hanging on, suddenly became excited. His pupils flickered—blue one moment, black the next, then red.
Little by little, his consciousness began to fade.
He realized in horror that his soul was being eaten away by the Falcon Form Mist Phantoms.
He got scared and screamed: "What are you doing? What are they doing? Why is my soul, my mind, my body... No! You can’t do this to me!"
Derek’s voice grew weaker and weaker.
Slowly, a look of respect appeared on his face. Though weak, he sincerely called Kevin "Master."
Kevin nodded. "Hurry up."
Soon, the Falcon Form Mist Phantoms extracted all the memories from Derek’s mind.
Using Derek’s body, it told Kevin everything that had happened in the past twenty-four hours. Then, its neck went limp, and Derek finally died.
When Kevin found out that Kamiza Saki had also run away and was nowhere to be found, he frowned. "Looks like that guy got away."
Kevin ordered the Dragon Form Mist Phantom: "Go check if a ship is missing."
The Dragon Form Mist Phantom screeched, flapped its wings, and flew off into the distance.
Through the Dragon Form Mist Phantom’s eyes, Kevin quickly saw that the ship belonging to Oliver and his Captains was gone.
Just then, Celula walked over and said softly: "Kevin Captain, I can lock onto his general location. Should we chase him?"
Kevin shook his head. "No need. The storm isn’t over yet. If we go out now, we might run into more Eldritch giants. We don’t have enough ammo to deal with them."
He paused and let out a cold laugh. "Let that guy live a little longer. Even if he exposes us, we don’t need to worry about other Survivor groups coming after us."
Next, Kevin summoned all the Mist Phantoms and ordered them to clean up the island’s resources.
All the Eldritch Entity corpses, along with the shell casings Kevin had used up, were gathered by the Mist Phantoms and piled onto the deck of the Two-Masted Sloop.
Seeing the entire deck covered in metal fragments, Kevin waved his hand and recycled them all directly into his Mechanical Kingdom.
"I lost about twenty percent of the metal: "Kevin estimated, feeling pretty satisfied with the result.
The fight earlier had been intense, so Kevin couldn’t help but fire the Vulcan Cannon toward the sea a few times. Those shell fragments that fell into the water were already lost, swallowed by the ocean.
But even so, an eighty percent recovery rate was enough for Kevin to rearm himself with the same level of firepower.
With that thought, Kevin yawned. "Everyone get some rest. We’ll deal with anything else after sunrise."
Kevin turned to look at Celula and Monchhichi. The twin sisters froze the moment they met his eyes.
"Kevin Captain, my sister and I will just spend the night in the sailor’s four-person cabin: "Celula said, pulling Monchhichi along as if trying to escape.
Monchhichi shot Kevin an apologetic look and whispered: "If you have time later... could you come find us one at a time?"
Her voice was so soft that only Kevin could hear it.
Blushing, she followed Celula and quickly disappeared into the cabin.
Kevin didn’t think much of Monchhichi’s words.
As for the twins, Kevin was determined to have them tonight.
So he picked up Luna, Amelia, and Nova, hugged them one by one, and personally walked them into his Captain’s quarters, saying goodnight.
Seeing that Kevin wasn’t planning to stay, Nova blinked. "Captain, you’re not going to do something bad, are you?"
Kevin handed Eliana, who was still in his arms, over to Nova and said softly: "Take care of her. I’ll be spending the night in the sailor’s four-person cabin."
He turned and walked away, leaving Luna, Amelia, and Nova standing stunned in the Captain’s quarters.
"Did he just say he’s going to the sailor’s cabin?" Luna repeated Kevin’s words, then suddenly realized: "He’s going after the twins!"
Amelia nodded, looking helpless. "Looks like we haven’t been tiring him out enough lately. He’s got way too much energy."
Nova covered her mouth and giggled. "Guess what Celula and Monchhichi’s faces will look like when Kevin pushes open the door?"
Luna shrugged and sighed. "They’ll probably be terrified. The entire Two-Masted Sloop is under Kevin’s control. If he wants to, he can open any door in the ship."
Meanwhile, inside the sailor’s four-person cabin...
Celula and Monchhichi were lying on their bunks, whispering to each other.
"Sis, what if Kevin Captain comes looking for us later? Should we open the door for him?" Celula asked, looking torn.
