Chapter 205: Felt Like A Betrayal
Third Person POV
"Where do we keep this?" Logan asked, his eyes locked onto the heavy metal box in the seer’s hands. "What happens to the memories now?"
The head seer held the box tight against her chest. "That choice belongs to you, Lord Logan. I can keep it hidden in our sacred temple, or you can take it and keep it locked away where no one can ever find it. Or... we can destroy it entirely. But if we break the stone inside, his memories of her will be gone forever."
Logan swallowed hard, staring at the dark metal container. "Keep it with you for now," he said quietly. "Hide it somewhere safe."
Kane stepped forward, his eyes filled with doubt as he looked down at his brother’s peaceful face. "Can he ever get them back? Can the memories be returned to him?"
"Yes," the head seer answered softly. "But only if he wants them with his own conscious mind. He must be awake, aware, and willing to accept the ritual. We would have to open this box and perform the spell in reverse to restore what was taken."
Logan shook his head immediately, a cold shudder running down his spine. "We can’t... if Kaden ever finds out what we did, he will kill every single one of us."
Logan turned around, his sharp gaze sweeping across every person standing in the ruined chamber—the head seer, the two younger witches, Kane, and the four elite guards who were still catching their breath.
"Listen to me very carefully," Logan commanded, his voice dark, stern, and unyielding. "This is a secret between the people in this room. A secret we take to our graves. If a single word about this ritual, about the gem, or about Rebecca slips out, I will personally see to it that you face the executioner. Am I clear?"
"Clear, Lord Logan," the guards and witches answered in unison, bowing their heads.
Without another word, Logan turned on his heel and walked out of the room, his boots heavy against the broken stone floor. He needed air. He needed to get away from the thick scent of blood magic and dark herbs.
He marched straight out of the ruined packhouse and stepped into the cold, quiet garden. The crisp morning air hit his face, but it couldn’t wash away the sickening feeling of betrayal twisting in his gut.
Closing his eyes, Logan took a deep breath and opened a private mind-link, reaching across the long distance straight to the Full Moon Packhouse.
Martha, Logan called out sharply through the mental link.
Back at the main packhouse, the head servant’s voice echoed back in his mind, full of surprise. Lord Logan! Is everything alright? Has the Alpha King found...
Listen to me, Martha, Logan interrupted, keeping his tone cold and direct. From today on... there is no one named Rebecca.
There was a long, stunned silence on the other end of the line. I... I don’t understand, Lord Logan. What do you mean?
I mean exactly what I said, Logan ordered, his chest tightening. Go through the entire mansion right now. Go into Alpha Kaden’s private quarters. Gather every single item, every piece of clothing, and everything that belongs to her or connects to her, and burn it. Inform all the servants in the house. There is no Rebecca. She was never here. She does not exist. If anyone mentions her name in front of the King when we return, they will be executed on the spot.
Martha gasped softly through the bond, her voice trembling. Yes, sir... It will be done right away.
Logan severed the connection before she could ask any questions. He took another deep breath and immediately opened another mind-link, this time to the pack’s head guard back home.
Commander, Logan barked in his mind.
Yes, Beta Logan! the head guard responded instantly.
Gather all the guards and warriors at the main house immediately, Logan instructed coldly. Issue a pack-wide order. There is no Rebecca. There was never an Alpha King’s breeder or slave. Erase her name from all watch logs and security reports. Anyone caught speaking her name will face treason charges.
Understood, Beta Logan, the head guard replied without hesitation. I will handle it immediately.
Logan closed the mind-link and opened his eyes, staring out at the frozen forest ahead.
He wiped a hand over his face, his chest heaving as the weight of what he had done settled heavily onto his shoulders. He stared out into the vast, freezing woods, whispering to the cold wind words he knew Kaden could not hear.
"I’m so sorry, Kaden... forgive me."
Meanwhile, back in the ruined chamber, Kane remained standing by the bedside.
He stood frozen, staring down at his twin brother’s calm, peaceful face. Kaden’s breathing was slow and steady now, completely free of the violent black rage that had nearly consumed his soul. He looked so whole, so untroubled—and yet, Kane knew the horrifying truth. The man lying on the bed was missing a vital piece of his heart.
A sharp knock at the broken doorway shattered the heavy silence.
Kane’s head warrior stepped into the room, holding out his personal phone. "Alpha," the guard whispered, keeping his voice low so as not to disturb the sleeping King. "This phone has been ringing non-stop. The number is hidden."
Kane swallowed hard, his throat dry. He reached out and took the phone, his mind instantly racing with dark possibilities.
Holding the device tightly, he stepped out of the room and walked a few paces down the quiet, shadowed hallway to get some privacy. He brought the phone to his ear and pressed the answer button.
"Hello?" Kane said, his voice hard and cautious.
The line was dead silent for a few agonizing seconds. The heavy static of a distant satellite connection hummed softly through the speaker.
Then, a cold, dark voice spoke up from the other end.
"Finally, Alpha Kane... you picked up."
